Experimental Comparison Of Deflection Results For Beams Of Self-Compacted Concrete (Scc) And Conventional Concrete Period T=40 Days, Hajdar E. Sadiku, Hatim Ejupi, Lulzim Bytiqi, Berim Osmanaj

UBT International Conference

Concrete is a material which has wide usage in engineering especially in construction engineering and road infrastructure facilities. Development trends for high rise constructions, modern skyscrapers indicate that building such constructions with normal concretes and low consistency is impossible, therefore there is a need for concrete with high processes because of great amount of steel in cross section of concrete elements, solution for such construction is self-compacted concrete because of ability to fill pores without compaction and vibration. Considering this fact, researches for deflections, mechanical characteristics of concrete and deformations have been conducted worldwide. In this line, we conducted an …

The Calculation Of A Concrete Reinforcement Under The Action Of Torsion Moment, According To Eurocode And Albanian Technical Rules, Julian Kasharaj, Igli Kondi, Eda Gjeka

UBT International Conference

The objective of this research is to introduce the reader to the calculation of a concrete reinforced element under the action of the torsion moment by comparing the two methods, Eurocode and Albanian Technical Rules. Particularly we will present the factors that affect the calculation and the final result. During a long period of time the action of torsion on a concrete reinforced element is not considered to be very important. The traditional calculating methods led to designing with reserves. As a result the longitudinal and transversal reinforcement due to bending, shear, compression or tension was enough even for torsion. …

These assets are not always managed with the care that they require. As a result, depreciation and destruction in time reducing the ability of these buildings to fulfil their functions by reducing the time of use, durability. General usage costs will also be higher because of the buildings require costly renovations or replacements of materials frequently than might be necessary if they are maintained regularly. …

Managing And Minimizing Waste Generation During Construction: Approaches And Responsible, Krenare Shkodra Nov 2012

Managing And Minimizing Waste Generation During Construction: Approaches And Responsible, Krenare Shkodra

UBT International Conference

Construction Waste is a well known and a serious threat to the environment therefore there are a number of existing approaches toward its management. It (construction waste) is considered recyclable up to 80-90%, which is quite a promising factor especially giving the fact that recycling is only one of the steps in the construction waste management process along with reduce, reuse, and dispose. While taking this into consideration there is still doubt as to ‗Why is Construction Waste still an issue to the environment? Does it get the required and deserved priority? If yes, by who and how?‘ While analyzing …

Interaction Designers’ Conceptions Of Design Quality For Interactive Artifacts, Mattias Arvola Jul 2010

Interaction Designers’ Conceptions Of Design Quality For Interactive Artifacts, Mattias Arvola

DRS Biennial Conference Series

It is important to be aware of different ways of seeing design quality of interactive artifacts in order to appreciate the various aspects of a design, but how do professional interaction designers understand design quality? In theory, one way of approaching design quality of interactive artifacts has been the Vitruvian principles of commodity, firmness and delight, originally created for architecture. Such frameworks are, however, seldom directly employed in practice. This paper investigates what conceptions professional interaction designers have of design quality for interactive artifacts. Interviews were conducted with ten designers. The analysis disclosed four conceptions concerning: (a) Constraints & contexts, …

Designing For An Aging Population, Allison Shives Apr 2010

Designing For An Aging Population, Allison Shives

Undergraduate Research Conference

Aging starts at birth and continues throughout life. As people age, they need to continue to live a happy life. A designer’s job is to design a facility that will encourage an independent lifestyle while providing the help and community involvement aging requires. The design solution should meet the aging population’s desire to age in place. An assisted living facility allows older adults to live independently while being surrounded by a support group and events that promote an active lifestyle which is conducive to physical and mental wellbeing.

Early Modern Workshop: Resources in Jewish History

Both the responsum of Rabbi Aboab and that of Hakham Zvi Ashkenazi reflect a feature of pre-modern kehillah life almost never dealt with in scholarly literature, namely, the urban eruv, a physical boundary delineating space in which one is permitted to carry items on Sabbath, erected by the kehillah.

This presentation is for the following text(s), available in the PDF file:

  • Samuel Aboab's Responsum 257

Design Behaviours: The Innovation Advantage - The Multi-Faceted Role Of Design In Innovation, R. Cooper, A. Wootton, D. Hands, M. Economidou, M. Bruce, L. Daly, R. Harun

DRS Biennial Conference Series

Design is a ‘good thing.’ “Use it well,” companies are often told, and you will reap the many rewards. But how exactly is design ‘used’ by the commercial organisation during NPD? As a complex activity that deals with at least as many intangible as tangible factors, how can design be constrained by any business process? And if businesses should adapt to gain more value from designers, in what ways should they change? Based on the results of Design Drivers, a three-year EPSRC-funded investigation, these are some of the questions that this paper seeks to answer. Examining the way in which …
