Design And Analysis Of Advanced Low Power Consumption Hybrid Switch With Experimental Verification, A. Hussein, M. Abd-Elazzem, M. Abo-Elsoud, Mahmoud M. Saafan

Mansoura Engineering Journal

This paper presents a hardware implementation for a hybrid switch (HS) that can be used successfully as a fast switch in industrial power factor correction (PFC) panels and for electrical transformers. The main components of HS are a semiconductor switch as Silicon Controlled Rectifier (SCR) or thyristor and a mechanical switch as a relay. In the conventional PFC solution, the correction process is based on traditional electromagnetic contactors so, a huge current will appear during the turn-on operation In addition there is frequently a spark. Due to the parallel technique between SCR and latched relay, the proposed HS can inhibit …

A Relativistic Geodetic Approach To Unify The Height System For Africa, Mostafa Ashry, Wen-Bin Shen, Abdelrahim Ruby, Zhang Pengfei, Ziyu Shen, Hussein A. Abd-Elmotaal, Mostafa Abd-Elbaky, Atef A. Makhloof

Mansoura Engineering Journal

This study focuses on the establishment of a unified height system for Africa called AFRUHS (African Unified Height System) by utilizing atomic 8 clocks and clock networks. The International Association of Geodesy (IAG) has 9 long aims to construct an International Height Reference Frame (IHRF), but the lack of accurate and globally harmonized vertical coordinates, particularly in Africa, has posed a challenge. To overcome this, the researchers propose using clock networks to determine geopotential or elevation differences between distant stations by measuring the gravitational redshift (GR) through clock frequency comparisons. The research employs simulation studies using the ACES (Atomic Clock …

Indoor Pedestrian Navigation Using Pdr/Wi-Fi Integration, Ahmad Yhaya, Ehab H. Abdelhay, Mohammed A. H. Abozied, Ahmed Shaaban Samra

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Positioning of pedestrians is a challenging problem. Especially, in case of global positioning system (GPS) signal outage inside buildings. The inertial navigation system (INS) systems are always used to detect the motion of the human body by placing inertial measurement unit (IMU) in a specific part of the human body. However, using IMU alone will not produce proper navigation solution with sufficient accuracy due to gradually accumulated errors of IMU stochastic drift, noise, and state integration with time. Which lead the recent researchers to enhance the performance of indoor navigation systems using aiding sources such as received signal strength (RSS) …

Video Anomaly Detection Using Residual Autoencoder: A Lightweight Framework, Mohamed H. Habeb, May A. Salama, Lamiaa A. Elrefaei

Mansoura Engineering Journal

This paper proposes an efficient lightweight deep spatial residual autoencoder (SRAE) model to detect anomalous events in video surveillance systems. A lightweight network is essential in real-time situations where time is critical. Moreover, it could be deployed on low-resource devices like embedded systems or mobile devices. This makes it a very useful option for real-world situations where there may be a shortage of resources. The proposed network is composed of a 3-layer residual encoder-decoder architecture that is adopted to acquire the salient spatial characteristics representative of normal events in videos. Then, the reconstruction loss is used to find abnormalities, where …

Computational Fluid Dynamics Investigation Of Flow Through Pneumatic Control Valve, Wael Elmayyah Jan 2023

Computational Fluid Dynamics Investigation Of Flow Through Pneumatic Control Valve, Wael Elmayyah

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Low-cost on-off pneumatic directional control valves are widely used with digital control circuits to control the position or the speed of pneumatic actuators. These valves have a limited flow capacity that hinders the system fast response. Therefore, deeper understanding of the internal air flow through the valve and its interaction with valve geometry will allow further performance improvement according to the required application.

In this paper, a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model for a low-cost internal pilot, electrically operated pneumatic 3/2 directional control valve has been developed to investigate the effect of the valve's geometry on the valve's outlet flow …

Experimental Study Of Photovoltaic Performance Under A Compound Parabolic Solar Concentrator With A Nanofluid Spectral Filter, O. Elharoun, M. Tawfik, Ibrahim I. El-Sharkawy, E. Zeidan

Mansoura Engineering Journal

The spectral splitting technique splits the sun's spectrum into two pieces to save photovoltaic cells from overheating. The first component is instantly converted into electricity, while the second is used to generate heat energy. Since nanofluid simultaneously serves as a heat transfer liquid and a spectrum splitter, several investigations have demonstrated that it is a very effective liquid-based filter. This work presents a novel PV/T design incorporating a compound parabolic concentrator (CPC) and a ZnO-water nanofluid filter over the PV cell. In this work, different ZnO concentrations, such as 50, 100, 150, and 200 ppm, were tested to assess their …

Zero-Sequence Current In Cable Systems: A Study, Shimaa A. F. Salem, Rabab R. M. Eiada, Ebrahim A. Badran

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Large zero-sequence current is not a new phenomenon for cable bus duct systems; the question is what influences its magnitude. It was found that the zero-sequence currents were circulating between different circuits in the cable system and that they were being generated by induction between phases in the same cable route. It was determined that the zero-sequence currents could be greatly reduced in a twin circuit by symmetrical configuration of the cables. However, in a four-circuit system, no significant reduction could be achieved even by the symmetrical configuration. Therefore, in this paper, this phenomenon will be analyzed and discussed. ATPDraw …

Modified Hcm Method For Delay Estimation At Unsignalized T- Intersections: A Case Study From Delta Region, Egypt, Ahmed Mohsen Geweda, Sayed A. Shwaly, Usama Elrawy Shahdah Jan 2023

Modified Hcm Method For Delay Estimation At Unsignalized T- Intersections: A Case Study From Delta Region, Egypt, Ahmed Mohsen Geweda, Sayed A. Shwaly, Usama Elrawy Shahdah

Mansoura Engineering Journal

This study proposes a modified gap acceptance method to estimate control delay at unsignalized intersections in Egypt. The Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) method for estimating control delay at unsignalized intersections assumes that all lower-ranking movements yield completely to higher-ranking movements. However, this assumption may not be valid in Egypt, where drivers in lower-ranking movements sometimes violate right-of-way. The proposed method introduces an adjustment factor to account for the amount of real priority that higher-ranking movements actually get from lower-ranking movements. The adjustment factor was developed based on data collected from three un-signalized T-intersections from Mansoura and Damietta cities in Egypt. …
