Development Of An Examination Hall Malpractice Detection System Using Pose Estimation And Machine Learning, Etinosa Noma-Osaghae, Udoumoh John David, Joshua Sokowonci Mommoh, Olusogo Julius Adetunji, Oyedeji Ayo Isaac

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Examination malpractice remains a critical concern, driving the need for robust and efficient detection systems to uphold academic integrity. This research introduces a novel approach to examination malpractice detection by leveraging pose estimation and machine learning to address key gaps in existing solutions. Current systems often rely exclusively on either pose estimation or object detection, failing to exploit the synergistic potential of combining these techniques. This study bridges this gap by integrating deep learning models with complementary capabilities to enhance detection accuracy, robustness, and coverage. The proposed methodology utilises OpenPose for precise human pose estimation, enabling the detection of body …

Realization Of Water Tidal Datum Levels From Observed Sea Level Data In Damietta Harbor, Egypt, Mohamed M. Helmy, Amr N. Shokry, Mohamed M. Youssef, Ahmed M. Khedr

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Sea level is an essential oceanographic parameter in hydrographic surveying that is always necessary for the realization of Chart Datum (CD). The International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) defines sea levels as those expected to occur under typical meteorological conditions, regardless of any possible combination of astronomical conditions. The current research focuses on analysing the observed sea level in Damietta Harbor, using two sets of sea-level records obtained from two sensors: a pressure sensor and a radar sensor. These records were collected from a tide gauge station located at Damietta Harbor from July 1, 2019, to March 2, 2020. Furthermore, harmonic analysis …

Mansoura Engineering Journal

In this research, a mathematical model for predicting the consumed length and crimp ratio of pile warp yarns in woven terry towel fabrics was developed. The mathematical formulas interrelate the construction parameters of the woven terry fabric such as weave structure, weft count, weft density, counts of pile and ground warp yarns and loop length with the consumed length and crimp ratio of pile warp yarns. Experimental verification was conducted on nine terry cotton fabric samples produced with three different levels of weft density, weft count and loop length. Results showed that theoretical values highly corresponded to the measured values …

Non-Line-Of-Sight Classification In Urban Areas Based On Machine Learning Algorithms, Mohamed Ali Ezzelarab, Mohamed Abdelazim Mohamed, Eman Abdelhalim, Ashraf Abosekeen

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Non-Line-Of-Sight (NLOS) and multipath errors are significant causes of poor accuracy in Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). These errors occur when satellite signals are diffracted or reflected by obstacles instead of traveling directly along the Line-Of-Sight (LOS), particularly in urban environments. Such diffracted or reflected signals can reach GNSS receivers, skewing pseudorange measurements and posing challenges to accurate GNSS positioning. This study introduces an innovative approach using supervised Machine Learning (ML) models to detect and mitigate NLOS error. To develop and validate these models, GNSS data collected during the smartLoc project from Frankfurt and Berlin in Germany were leveraged, representing …

A First Model Foundation Design Of Wood Pillar In Banjarmasin Swampland, Nursyarif Agusniansyah, Gusti Novi Sarbini, Akbar Rahman, Muhammad Tharziansyah

ASEAN Journal on Science and Technology for Development

Banjarmasin's swampland presents distinct characteristics that make it suitable for constructing homes, but it also requires special attention, especially concerning the foundation. The soil in this area often has extremely low carrying capacity, which poses a significant challenge for construction. Mistakes in choosing construction materials, coupled with mismatched building loads and inadequate foundation functions, often result in foundation failures—a common cause of building collapses. As the complexity and functionality of buildings increase, the need for more thoughtful house design becomes more crucial. The commonly used wooden pile foundation, while popular, has limited load-bearing capacity, necessitating modifications to enhance its strength. …

Enhancing Walking Culture In Egyptian Cities As An Approach To Energy Harvesting, Kareem M. Ali Jan 2025

Enhancing Walking Culture In Egyptian Cities As An Approach To Energy Harvesting, Kareem M. Ali

Mansoura Engineering Journal

It has become possible to generate clean energy based on the physical effort of individuals, whether during the use of sports equipment or by converting kinetic energy (walking steps) into electricity instead of it being wasted effort. The World Health Organization’s recommendation to walk for at least half an hour daily helps to enhance public health. Therefore, the research proposes dedicating pathways within cities built with energy-generating technology from pedestrian movement and organizing regular walking races to help produce more electrical energy. This would provide part of the urban environment’s electricity needs, reduce the carbon footprint, and enhance public health. …

Behaviour Of The Internal Rc Slab-Column Connection With Both Correct And Incorrect Reinforcing Details, Momen M. Ali, Abdelrhman B. Harraz, Walid H. Shalaby

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Flat slabs without beams are common slab systems due to their simple formwork and ability to accommodate reduced story heights. Reinforced concrete slab-column connections are critical, especially internal connections with the final roof slabs. This research aims to compare the correct and incorrect reinforcing details of internal slabcolumn connections and examine how they affect the connections' behaviour. One of the most common problems in reinforced concrete structures is incorrect reinforcing details of slab-column connections, which is caused by insufficient experience and a lack of quality control. For this reason, numerical research is carried out. FE models for eighteen (18) specimens …

Analyzing Reciprocating Piston Expander Performance In Small-Scale Caes Considering Expansion Mismatch And Residual Mass Losses, Mehrdad Poursadegh

Dissertations and Doctoral Documents, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 2023–

Energy storage (ES) has become an essential element of modern energy systems, particularly with the rapid growth of renewable energy sources. While these sources are central to global decarbonization efforts, their intermittent nature creates significant challenges for both grid operators and end users. To address these challenges, a wide range of storage technologies have been developed ranging from large utility-scale to small behind-the-meter units. Among these, Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) stands out for its long lifespan, low storage cost per unit of energy, and ability to provide both electricity and thermal energy. However, small- and micro-scale CAES systems, unlike …

Polarimetry Based Radar Estimation Of Extreme Rainfall: Case Studies, Bong Chul Seo, Witold F. Krajewski, James A. Smith

Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

The study evaluated radar-derived polarimetric rainfall estimates for extreme rain events that occurred in the Kansas City Metropolitan area in the United States. To derive quantitative precipitation estimates (QPE), we implemented two polarimetric algorithms based on specific attenuation (A) and specific differential phase (KDP), along with the reflectivity (Z) based one using data from two radars in the study area. The analysis to assess radar-rainfall estimates (R) utilizes ground observations from a dense network of about 170 rain gauges. Based on our analysis results, the two polarimetric estimates from R(A) and R(KDP) outperform the conventional estimation R(Z). R(A) appeared to …
