This chapter argues that the terms “Latinx” and “latinidad” are messy signifiers that allow us to contend with Latinx’s complicated racial history. While the term Latinx continues to be controversial, and scholars such as Tatiana Flores have examined the case for cancelling latinidad, “Racing Latinidad” points to how latinidad can signify particular political commitments and affinities. Through readings of Manuel Muñoz’s What You See in the Dark (2011) and Dahlma Llanos-Figueroa’s Daughters of the Stone (2009), this chapter illuminates how excavating racial histories outside the logic of the state is a way to summon a politics to imagine a people. …

Food permeates every aspect of life and society, from birth to death—from the new-born’s first suckle to the food traditions associated with Irish wakes and funerals. Essential for survival, it has historically proven academically elusive, hidden in plain sight. Entangled with the domestic and the feminine, it was traditionally regarded as too mundane and too quotidian for consideration. Depending on how you define it, Irish Studies has somewhere between 50 and 100 years of history as an academic discipline. The Fifth Industrial Revolution focuses on building sustainability by balancing human factors (such as resilience and well-being) and technological innovations. This era of evolving, diverse, and turbulent business environments demands an agile workforce. However, scholars note a deficit in initiatives to boost agility due to the lack of evidence-based agility training practices. This study aims to design and test novel training using ‘arts’ to boost employee agility. An Intermodal Arts-Based Intervention (IABI) integrating visual arts, music, movement, and theatre was designed for this purpose. We employed a mixed-method inquiry in two stages to test its effect. The Critically Endangered white-bellied heron Ardea insignis is a large-bodied, range-restricted, piscivorous bird of the Himalayan mountains. With fewer than 60 individuals remaining globally, regular monitoring is required for this rare species. We present the results of surveys during 2017 and 2023-2024 in Namdapha Tiger Reserve, Arunachal Pradesh, India. The encounter rate of white-bellied herons in 2017 was 0.55 individuals per km of river, but we did not detect the bird during intensive surveys in the same location during 2023-2024. The surveyed area within the Reserve was once a stronghold for the species, but its population appears to be declining. …

Delirium, an acute brain dysfunction, is proposed to be highly prevalent in clinical care and shown to significantly increase the risk of mortality and dementia.

Objectives

To report on the global prevalence of clinically documented delirium and delirium-related clinical practices in wards caring for paediatric and adult patients in healthcare facilities.

Design

A prospective, cross-sectional, 39-question survey completed on World Delirium Awareness Day, 15 March 2023.

Living on campus during college offers students a unique opportunity to adjust to their new environment. As they navigate this transitional phase, first-year students encounter both new opportunities and challenges that help them forge connections within their community. The type of institution, including the number of students residing on campus, can significantly influence their overall college experience and expectations. This phenomenological study examined the experiences of seven first-year students residing at a primarily nonresidential institution. Through semi-structured interviews and photo journals, the research aimed to understand how these residential students connected with their campus and what factors influenced their experiences. …

School Administrators’ Perspectives On Dyslexia And Transformational Leadership And Implications For Teacher Placement, Christina M. Walker

This study focused on the perceptions of secondary-level administrators about dyslexia instruction and their decision-making process in teacher placement within a Texas school district. Using transformative leadership theory, the researcher’s aim was to address the instructional needs of students with dyslexia and help catalyze educational change. The research involved a qualitative descriptive approach to explore administrators’ perspectives and practices. Findings revealed that dyslexia affects approximately 15%–20% of the U.S. population. Despite intellectual capabilities, individuals with dyslexia face persistent struggles in reading and writing because of neurobiological differences. Maude Valérie White (1866-1937) was an English composer during the Victorian Era. Her main output was in the genre of art song, of which she wrote more than two hundred during her life. Her music was very popular at the height of her career around 1880-1890, but fell out of favor with the general public in line with the general reaction against Victorian art and ideals. This written document focuses on the life of Maude Valérie White contextualized within the ideals of Victorian womanhood. Bones have an inherent ability to remodel, but critical-size defects can hinder regeneration, leading to delayed healing or non-union fractures. Traditional bone grafts have limitations, such as donor site morbidity and immune rejection, driving the need for synthetic bone substitutes. Bone tissue engineering (BTE) addresses this by developing biomimetic scaffolds that replicate bone properties. This research aimed to fabricate composite scaffolds from strontium (Sr) and zinc (Zn) doped nano-hydroxyapatite (nHAp), collagen, and poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) polymer. Different doping percentages of Sr/Zn (1%, 2.5%, 4%) were used to fabricate the scaffolds using supercritical CO2 (ScCO2) and electrospinning techniques. Scaffolds were then analyzed …

Surgical site infections (SSI) result in increased morbidity and mortality, prolonged recovery, longer hospital length of stay for medication or possible additional surgeries, and escalated health care costs. The purpose of this randomized controlled trial was to compare SSI rates and overall skin flora burden between those using chlorhexidine (CHG) cloths versus soap and water preoperatively in the adult spine surgery population.

Methods
