No Need Of Styles: Building Up Architectural Historiography, Carmen Popescu
No Need Of Styles: Building Up Architectural Historiography, Carmen Popescu
Artl@s Bulletin
If styles lost impetus within the methodology of art historiography, in the (parallel) field of architecture, they were firmly rejected one century ago. One might consider that this more radical positioning (particularly in terms of epistemological tools) constituted the very reason for the undeclared but yet consumed divorce between the two disciplines. Attempting to define its specificity but also the autonomy of the discipline, architectural historiography followed a path less directly preoccupied with aesthetics and closer to functionality and technicity. My paper analyses how architectural historiography built up its idiosyncrasy.

Passion Plays And Their Touristic Utilisation: Authenticity Or Commercialisation?, Dimitrios Mylonopoulos, Polyxeni Moira, Elli Terzoglou
International Journal of Religious Tourism and Pilgrimage
Tourism development and the economic benefits that come from tourism have led to the increase and revival of religious celebrations and festivals in the form of events and performances, especially during the Holy Week. Many events such as Passion Plays of Jesus, due to their enduring existence in time, ‘authenticity’, particularities, originality and the emotions they evoke, capture the attention of both religious people and tourists. These Passion Plays are specific religious-cultural events that consist of depictions of scenes from Jesus Christ’s passion, following the biblical narrations (e.g. the Teaching, the Passion, the Crucifixion, the Resurrection). According to UNESCO (2014), …

Urban Pilgrimage On The Roofs: Analysing The Tourism Potential Of Rooftop Shrines In Ginza, Brigitta Pécsek
International Journal of Religious Tourism and Pilgrimage
The purpose of this research is to contribute to the relaunch of inbound tourism in Tokyo in a sustainable way focusing on rooftop shrines. The centre of this research is the shopping district, Ginza that is full of hidden shrines nestled among and on top of the high-rise buildings. The research aims to find out to what extent tourists in Tokyo are aware of these shrines and whether the ‘Luxurious Ginza’ brand constitutes a barrier to view it as a spiritual space. The mixed methodology used is of qualitative nature, including content analysis of sites, ethnography as well as a …
El Susurro Del Espíritu En Clave Queer: Arte, Liturgia Y Trascendencia, Cruz Edgardo Torres
El Susurro Del Espíritu En Clave Queer: Arte, Liturgia Y Trascendencia, Cruz Edgardo Torres
Conexión Queer: Revista Latinoamericana y Caribeña de Teologías Queer
The evolution of liturgy, preaching, and religious architecture has accompanied the officialization of Christianity, giving rise to complex buildings and artistic expressions, such as basilicas. This process, though historically met with resistance, continues to this day and becomes especially relevant from queer perspectives. The article highlights the importance of the arts — music, theater, dance, poetry, and visual arts — in liturgy and preaching, not merely as embellishment, but as vehicles for opening up new spiritual languages. These queer liturgical practices affirm marginalized LGBTIQ+ identities and heal historical memories, engaging with their realities and struggles.
Dante’S Pilgrimage: Transformation As A ‘Web Of Belief’, Stephen F. Haller
Dante’S Pilgrimage: Transformation As A ‘Web Of Belief’, Stephen F. Haller
International Journal of Religious Tourism and Pilgrimage
In Dante’s allegorical pilgrimage to hell and back, he travels through three stages of transformation that are illustrated in his paradigmatic example of identity transformation; namely, Dante’s Divine Comedy. As a pilgrim, he starts out in a state of ‘unease’ (or ‘sin’). Next, there is a ‘solution’ to his psychological disarray, which results in the religious experience of joy. William James has persuasively argued that these are the common features of all religious experiences (1901). Dante is in a stage of his life when he can no longer be reached by argument. This state of mind is described, by the …

A Grounded Theoretic Analysis Of College Students’ Attitudes Regarding Indoor Plants And Pets As Moderators Of Daily Stressors, Lydia Dill
Honors Projects
This study explores college students' attitudes toward indoor plants and pets, and how this may impact college students’ experience with stress. Through in-depth interviews and grounded theory methodology, three key themes emerged: Plant Ownership as a Method of Establishing Structure, Plants as Ornamentation, and Pets as a Source of Comfort. Plant ownership helps students create routines and emotional stability, while plants also enhance living spaces aesthetically. Pets provide emotional support, offering companionship and support, particularly during academic pressures. The study builds on previous research by examining both indoor plants and pets together, highlighting how each fulfills unique emotional, psychological, and …

Theses
Lost Roots is an interactive 2.5D exploration game where players unite spirits by growing an underground network of roots. With a limited amount of roots to grow, players must unlock memories of the deceased and navigate through a cemetery in order to advance. The game serves as a unique take on the idea of purgatory, where the soul is essentially stuck and the player must find their own way out. The player first awakens underneath a tombstone with no memories of the past. Their only ability is to navigate through the dirt as a singular root, navigating around obstacles to …

Building And Employing The Music-Coaching-Improv (M-C-I) Framework To Aid New Instructors In Overcoming The Imposter Phenomenon, John Hinck, Steven B. Davis, Andrew Clayton, Stephanie Wilson, Melanie Leon
International Journal of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education
New instructors often face feeling like an imposter. This article explains an innovative contribution called the Music-Coaching-Improv (M-C-I) Framework of 15 skills that includes the top five ways to use music, five key coaching skills, and five core improv skills. The M-C-I Framework was the foundation for three improv exercises that were selected due to their effectiveness in training the overlapping skills of active listening, support, letting go of judgment, being in the moment, cocreation, and acceptance that supported instructors overcoming the imposter phenomenon. This article examines how music, coaching, and improv training in an instructor development program influenced participants …

Percussive Practices: Scholastic Programming Of Pageantry Indoor Percussion And Concert Percussion Ensembles, Robert A. Halpner
Graduate Thesis Collection
This thesis focuses on an evaluation of the spring practices of percussion programs in the greater Indianapolis area. This qualitative research study was designed to study and analyze the differences in programming of pageantry indoor percussion and concert percussion ensembles at the high school level. Specifically, this thesis focuses on the rationale and educational practices behind school percussion programming of either of these two ensemble types. This thesis attempts to answer the primary research question: what musical or educational philosophies guide the reasoning behind determining if a particular school participates in either concert percussion ensemble or pageantry indoor percussion during …

Heads Above The Parapet: Personal Motivation And Professional Practice Among Northern Ireland's Community Of Grassroots Peace Practitioners, Ann C. Kelleher Dr., Anna Leon-Guerrero Dr., Maureen Hetherington Ceo Retired
Peace and Conflict Studies
Members of the Northern Ireland’s grassroots peace practitioner community have sustained their careers-long dedication to constructive local engagement across the deep historical divide throughout the decades of The Troubles, the post-agreement era, and up to the present. An exploration of their development as individual practitioners and as a community of practice will contribute to our understanding of grassroots level peace-building.
Based on 29 in-depth interviews with Northern Ireland community practitioners we examine why they, with widely differing personalities, capabilities, and backgrounds, came to care deeply about their society, and how their dedication to changing its historical trajectory produced constructive cross-community …
Point Of Care Ultrasound For Gastric Residual: An Objective Structured Clinical Examination, Brandon Quinn, Kaitlyn Gray
Point Of Care Ultrasound For Gastric Residual: An Objective Structured Clinical Examination, Brandon Quinn, Kaitlyn Gray
Doctoral Projects
Point of care ultrasound (POCUS) has become an invaluable tool in modern medical practice offering real-time diagnostic and procedural guidance for anesthesia providers. POCUS is a non-invasive assessment tool that gives anesthesia insight into a quantitative assessment of gastric residuals. Furthermore, POCUS assessments are useful in preventing anesthetic complications that can cause major morbidity and mortality such as aspiration pneumonia. Despite the growing relevance, formalized training on POCUS for assessing gastric residuals remains limited in many nurse anesthesia programs. The University of Southern Mississippi currently lacks a standardized curriculum for teaching student registered nurse anesthetists how to utilize gastric ultrasound …
Our Town, Lynn University
Our Town, Lynn University
Drama Programs
Winner of the 1938 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Described by Edward Albee as "the greatest American play ever written," Our Town presents the small town of Grover's Corners in three acts: "Daily Life," "Love and Marriage," and "Death and Eternity." Narrated by a stage manager and performed with minimal props and sets, the play depicts the simple daily lives of the Webb and Gibbs families as their children fall in love, marry, and eventually—in one of the most famous scenes in American theatre—die.
