Exploring The Seams Of Performance: Performance Studies & Theater Praxis, Sarah Kozinn
Exploring The Seams Of Performance: Performance Studies & Theater Praxis, Sarah Kozinn
Communication and Theater Association of Minnesota Journal
The exercise aims to use a taxonomy of performance, as theorized by Richard Schechner in his essay “Drama, Script, Theatre, and Performance,” to think analytically about what performance is. (Part of the goal is to “make strange” what students, most often, think they already know by giving then tools to better define and identify the spectrum of what is termed “performance.”) Students will articulate the porously bounded areas of drama, script, theatre, and performance, teasing apart and developing a definition of what defines theatre as theatre in relation to how they define performance. Through this, students will develop an analytic …

Bahasa dan Seni: Jurnal Bahasa, Sastra, Seni, dan Pengajarannya
This study aims to uncover and explain the concept and model of flexibility as a mechanism for the sustainability of folk performing arts amidst conditions of social and cultural change. The study was conducted using an ethnographic approach, based on participatory and collaborative activities within the Turonggo Seto Boyolali group, and supported by data collection techniques including observation, interviews, documentation, and literature review. The results of this study indicate that flexibility is a principle and approach applied through the process of adaptation, creation, and innovation. This process is carried out to preserve and develop traditional performing arts, ensuring they continue …
An “Ill-Regulated Woman”: The Rhetoric Of Gendered Power In The Late Republic, Samantha Guichard
An “Ill-Regulated Woman”: The Rhetoric Of Gendered Power In The Late Republic, Samantha Guichard
History in the Making
Cicero’s attack on Clodia Metelli in Pro Caelio was not a personal animus but a carefully wrought composition of rhetoric that rendered her an ideological emblem of late-Republican instability, reaffirming male authority through the reprobation of a wealthy, autonomous woman. This is supported by demonstrating that Cicero deployed similar characterizations of women across his career; against Sassia in Pro Cluentio and through Chelidon in the In Verrem, establishing it as a structural technique rather than a one-off tactic, and that Roman anxieties about women’s independent wealth provided the cultural conditions that made such rhetoric persuasive. This study engages in close …

Walking Through History: Designing A Byu Women's History Walking Tour, Reese M. Rugg
Walking Through History: Designing A Byu Women's History Walking Tour, Reese M. Rugg
Undergraduate Honors Theses
This thesis appears in two parts. The first is an analysis where I present a brief literature review of women’s history and women in editing and publishing. I also discuss the creation process and methods of applying design principles to a copyfitted manuscript of a BYU women’s history walking tour. The second is the copyfit 176-page manuscript and book cover, created in InDesign and Photoshop.
This project represents a continuation of recent efforts to highlight women who have built BYU in a more equitable way. The purpose of this project is to highlight the discrepancies in women’s archival history and …
Heuristic Inquiry As A Research Method In Music Education, Austina F. Lee
Heuristic Inquiry As A Research Method In Music Education, Austina F. Lee
Visions of Research in Music Education
This article presents heuristic inquiry as a form of autoethnography and its potential as a methodological resource for music educators. Rather than reporting findings from a single study, the article illustrates how heuristic inquiry can serve as a structured yet flexible process of critical reflection that helps teachers navigate the cultural and political contexts of their work. Drawing on the author’s experiences as a high school choral director, the discussion highlights the six phases and seven processes of heuristic inquiry, showing how personal reflection, cultural awareness, and relational care can be interwoven into professional practice. By framing autoethnography as both …
Consequences Of Teacher Violence Among Musicians, Karla María Reynoso Vargas, Basilio Fernández-Morante
Consequences Of Teacher Violence Among Musicians, Karla María Reynoso Vargas, Basilio Fernández-Morante
Visions of Research in Music Education
This is a standalone work, but it is complementary to the study, “Teacher violence in university music education: An exploration in a Mexican context.” It presents the analysis of emerging information found in 53 stories of victims of teacher violence in university music programs. We incorporated reflections and contributions from students, professionals, and dropouts of music careers in the Mexican Republic, who voluntarily shared their stories. The first category describes the consequences of teacher violence. On one hand, there were effects interpreted as positive, including the activation of achievement orientation, overexertion, and self-demand. It is pointed out that these consequences …

Consecuencias De La Violencia Docente: Recuentos Desde El Campo De La Formación Musical Universitaria En México, Karla M. Reynoso Vargas, Basilio Fernández-Morante
Visions of Research in Music Education
