Protection of Broadcasting Organizations

The central question for the Broadcasting Treaty, in line with the 2007 General Assembly Mandate, is whether there is sufficient “agreement on objectives, specific scope and object of protection” to warrant a recommendation for a diplomatic conference. (WO/GA/34/16). The 2006 GA mandated that the Broadcasting Treaty be “confined to the protection of broadcasting and cablecasting organizations in the traditional sense” and “based on a signal-based approach” (WO/GA/33/10, para 107, 2006).

The Microbiology Society Education and Outreach Symposium serves as a platform for microbiology educators to share contemporary practices with an international audience. The Symposium is held yearly during the Microbiology Society’s Annual Conference and has become increasingly popular among conference attendees. In an effort to create an inclusive and engaging environment, the 2024 Symposium included contributions from participants at all career stages and from diverse global regions through a variety of presentation formats, including invited talks, offered presentations, flash talks and posters. It is a troubling reality that medical students in some U.S. teaching hospitals perform pelvic examinations on anesthetized surgical patients without their explicit knowledge or consent. These unconsented educational pelvic examinations raise serious ethical and legal concerns. Although professional medical societies agree that specific and voluntary consent is a fundamental ethical prerequisite for conducting such examinations, this standard has been frequently disregarded in practice. The law offers little practical deterrence to this violation of patient autonomy. Tort law provisions on battery and informed consent are ineffective in addressing the issue, while state legislatures have largely failed, or outright refused, to …

Journal of Queer and Trans Studies in Education

This study examines the reflexivity of queer BGLO members after graduation and how they made meaning of their involvement when considering encounters with past critical incidents. The authors observed how queer-identified members of Black Greek-lettered organizations navigated opportunities for campus engagement in spaces prone to present heteronormative attitudes. The authors explored how queer-identified members of Black Greek-lettered organizations navigated the processes of identity development and meaning making in spaces prone to presenting heteronormative attitudes. This essay explores creative works that produce powerful reactions of discernment, hostility, or deep uncertainty from mysterious forms of “blankness.” They all use silence or similarly ineffable qualities to challenge the thoughtfulness and tolerance of audience members. Texas A&M Law Review

In 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis, a fiercely divided Supreme Court opined that commercial vendors enjoy First Amendment protections to decline to serve customers, even where such a choice is prohibited by state public accommodations regimes. In identifying a clash between personal liberty and state instruction, the decision could radically reshape the public accommodations statutory regime, which prevents discrimination against customers from minority and vulnerable groups. Standard constitutional interpretation cannot explain 303 Creative, and existing doctrinal and scholarly frameworks will struggle to integrate the decision into the already convoluted narrative of public accommodation law.

International Journal of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education

This article focuses on the issue of reflection for music studio teachers in higher education. Although stimulated recall and reflection on action are well-developed research fields in classroom education settings, the application of these methods to studio teaching is rare, a form of pedagogy which is heavily influenced by the master–apprentice tradition, with many teachers engaging in this practice without any formal training. The article presents the findings associated with three different studio pedagogues reflecting on video recordings of their lessons via cooperative analysis. Te Puna is the central hub for ākonga (learners) and kaimahi (staff) at Te Whare Wānanga o Wairaka - Unitec campus at Mt Albert, Auckland, New Zealand. “Puna” means spring, and the student hub has been designed to celebrate the Wairaka stream and its spring – Te Wai Unuroa o Wairaka. The spring remains alive on campus to this day, serving not only as an important cultural landmark, but also as a metaphor for holistic wellbeing - physical, spiritual and mental nourishment for our ākonga.
