Arts professionals straddle two worlds: the world of the artist and the world of the manager. This course concentrates on the various forms of arts writing, promotion, and institutional communications relevant to the arts administrator. Skills in written and oral communication are developed through a cycle of writings directed towards basic arts and media relations principles and techniques as they apply to successful arts institutions. Students will practice identification of current and potential audiences, how to attract media, create ongoing relationships with visitors and members, as well as successful communication within arts institution administrations.

Dissertations and Theses
It has been a long journey for this thesis accomplishment and now finally it is accomplished. First and foremost I thank God for my mother, Seskhutshwe, who has always wanted her children to accomplish through education. It would not have been possible of course without my dad, Judge and my little sister Ikey. My 9 year old daughter, I also thank her for always making sure she did not disturb me whenever I had to concentrate on this project. Above all, I wish to express my gratitude to my exceedingly patient Professor and supervisor, Jacqueline Braveboy. I have probably been …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Lucy Negro, Redux is a collection of poetry that uses the lens of Shakespeare's "Dark Lady" sonnets to explore the way questions about and desire for the black female body have evolved over time, from Elizabethan England to the Jim Crow South to the present day. Research for the collection began with the discovery in early 2012 of a connection between the historical Elizabethan figure Black Luce--a notorious brothel owner--and William Shakespeare, by Professor Duncan Salkeld of the University of Chichester. A grant from the University of Mississippi yielded an opportunity for on-site research with Dr. Salkeld in order to …

"A Stranger To The World": Women, Bisexuality, And Performance In Eighteenth-Century England, Jade Higa
"A Stranger To The World": Women, Bisexuality, And Performance In Eighteenth-Century England, Jade Higa
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
As queer theory has evolved and been adapted by scholars of various fields, queer studies has become increasingly important to academic understandings of the eighteenth century. However, the broadness of queer scholarship has resulted in specific sexualities becoming less visible. This project grapples with the concept of bisexuality and its relation to gender, performance, and women in the late eighteenth century. It proposes the intersection of queer temporalities and the gaze to develop a new methodology in which the scholar consciously looks back at the eighteenth century through the lens of the twenty-first century. The project considers representations of bisexuality …
Making The Fictional Believable: Mock Documentary Imagery In The War Game, Abigail E. Jones
Making The Fictional Believable: Mock Documentary Imagery In The War Game, Abigail E. Jones
Undergraduate Research Journal
One particular mock documentary film that exemplifies imagery’s ability to help viewers suspend disbelief is Peter Watkins’ The War Game (1965), a depiction of the aftermath of a nuclear attack on Britain shot in black and white. The film draws from the British film traditions of both documentary and science fiction by exhibiting a tension between iconography and spectacle. Film, as its most basic function, both tells a story and describes the elements of that story using images, and by doing so can blur the line between fiction and reality. Andrew Higson states that an image can be used either …
