Buddhism As Performing Art: Visualizing Music In The Tibetan Sacred Ritual Music Liturgies, Jeffrey W. Cupchik

The eleventh-century Tibetan female ascetic, Machik Labdrön (1055-1153), developed a Vajrayāna (Tantric) Buddhist meditation method called Chöd (Tib. gCod, Eng. “to cut”) and associated ritual practices as a means of eliminating “self-grasping,” which is defined as the mistaken instinct of regarding one’s “self” and all phenomena as intrinsically, or independently, existent. Her musical-meditation method became renowned across Central Asia during her lifetime, and Chödritual practices and liturgies have been transmitted from teacher to disciple in unbroken lineages until today. François Le Champi: A New Émile, Vicki De Vries

Despite its frequent classification as a pastoral novel, George Sand’s François le champi advocates forcefully for better treatment of abandoned children. During the nineteenth century, much debate centred on how best to ensure their care, education and integration into society. Sand’s solution, embodied by her eponymous protagonist, bears a striking resemblance to the ideal Jean-Jacques Rousseau proposes in his Émile, ou de l’éducation. Sand’s modelling of François on Rousseau’s Émile had personal roots, but would also have resonated with contemporary readers, many of whom considered Rousseau an authority on child-rearing and education. The 1 986 Swarthmore Lecture, given by the Quaker Women's Group, was essentially a consciousness- raising exercise. It was intended to 'bring into the light' the experience of women in the Society of Friends; experience which had frequently been under-valued or ignored. Writing centred around a number of different topics including women and violence, feminist theology, women and peace, and sexism in language and education. The Anchor: 2015

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.
