Origins Of Music Programs In Liberal Arts Institutions: The Story Of Three Florida Catholic Universities, Cynthia S. Selph

This study examines the music programs in liberal arts colleges through the historical lens of three Catholic Universities in the state of Florida. Although there are numerous historical dissertations and theses written about individual music schools and departments, and a few that compare music programs in similar types of institutions, none have compared music programs in Catholic universities within the same state. After teaching at Saint Leo University and experiencing the process of rebuilding a music program after it was almost completely lost in the mid-1990s, I wanted to study the histories of Saint Leo and other Florida Catholic institutions …

A National Book Award winner, popular television show writers, and a centennial birthday commemoration are all planned for the 2015 Oxford Conference for the Book, set for March 25-27. Presented by the University of Mississippi's Center for the Study of Southern Culture and Square Books, the 22nd annual conference is dedicated to Mississippi writer Margaret Walker, who penned the critically acclaimed novel "Jubilee" and the award-winning poetry collection "For My People." Walker would have celebrated her 100th birthday this year.

Why Data Privacy Law Is (Mostly) Constitutional, Neil M. Richards

Laws regulating the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data are (mostly) constitutional, and critics who suggest otherwise are wrong. Since the New Deal, American law has rested on the wise judgment that, by and large, commercial regulation should be made on the basis of economic and social policy, rather than blunt constitutional rules. This has become one of the basic principles of American constitutional law. Although some observers have suggested that the United States Supreme Court’s recent decision in Sorrell v. IMS Health Inc. changes this state of affairs, such readings are incorrect. Sorrell involved a challenge to a …
