In the mid-twentieth century, the landscape of copyright was quickly changing, facing new technologies as well as cultural changes that would ultimately test the limits of the 1909 Copyright Act. Choreographic copyright protection changed immensely throughout the last half of the twentieth century, and one ballet company at the forefront of the changing tides of copyright law was the New York City Ballet (“NYCB”), led by choreographer George Balanchine. By the time Balanchine passed, the legacy of both his company, NYCB, and his body of copyrighted work was immense enough to determinatively color the way choreographic copyrights are handled under …

Comparing Prokofiev’S Piano Transcriptions: “Romeo And Juliet” And “Cinderella”, Yu Hua Wu

Sergei Prokofiev transcribed and arranged many of his own works, including excerpts from many of his ballets and one of his symphonies. Among his most famous transcriptions are the piano versions of Romeo and Juliet and Cinderella, both derived from his ballet scores.

This document explores Prokofiev’s approach to transcription through a comparative analysis of the orchestral and piano versions as well as an analysis of the transcriptions considered as independent compositions. Chapter One outlines the value and necessity of a comparative analysis. Chapter Two provides brief historical overviews of Russian ballet and piano transcription, highlighting how Prokofiev expanded on …

Family physicians (FPs), as educators, capacity builders and clinical governance leaders of primary care (PC) teams, work to make them more effective and responsive to the needs of their patients. Various strategies are required to raise the profile of Family Medicine (FM) to ensure stronger representation in health sector planning and policy development for advocacy on behalf of the communities they serve. Oroonoko and The Rover, or, the Banished Cavaliers are set in very different locations with a variety of colorful characters. Oroonoko features a split plot set in Suriname exploring the relationships between commerce, slavery, and marriage; whereas The Rover features the collision of three women and a group of cavaliers at Carnival in Naples. But these seemingly disparate plays do have something in common; both are popular adaptations by arguably progressive playwrights. In this moment of societal change and institutional capture, public educational institutions have become sites of contention where national ideological and political debates are carried out in local school and library board meetings across the country. In Louisiana, the creation and expansion of a statewide conservative organization has led to the defunding of public libraries sparked by accusations of grooming and inappropriate programming. In response, local library defenders have created another statewide organization to share information and organizing strategies to combat disinformation campaigns propagated by conservative organizers at local and state levels. The use of drain in primary total knee replacement (TKR) started with the belief that it prevents hematoma formation and infection. The fear of infection made this practice an essential step that enjoyed a long journey. Symmetrical drug-related intertriginous and flexural exanthema or drug-related Baboon syndrome is an adverse drug reaction reported to be caused by various drugs. In this report, we describe a case induced by hydroxyzine in a 65-year-old man. Review of literature identified only one case of hydroxyzine-induced Baboon syndrome.

The anatomical and physiological differences in children make the administration of anesthesia difficult compared to the adults which is made more challenging when the child presents with a congenital anomaly. In this case, we report the anesthetic challenges presented by an 8-month-old baby born of full gestation with a lumbar swelling and hydrocephalus posted for ventriculoperitoneal shunt insertion. Magnetic resonance imaging scan revealed the presence of a large meningomyelocele with tethered sac and Arnold–Chiari malformation (Type 2). Introduction:

Administration of local anesthetic into the wound before incision has been found to reduce postoperative pain following laparoscopic surgery. Levobupivacaine and ropivacaine which are less cardiotoxic and neurotoxic than bupivacaine are being used for local infiltration.

Objective:

To compare the efficacy of preincisional port site infiltration of 0.5% levobupivacaine versus 0.5% ropivacaine for postoperative pain relief in patients undergoing laparoscopic appendicectomy.

Methodology:

Rooted in a rural community’s needs, this paper explores how historically, and ethically informed infrastructures can support community engagement towards identification, documentation, and dissemination of local, traditional, and indigenous knowledge relating to climate change. The paper examines climate adaptation and sustainability issues through the lenses of community organizing and Library & Information Science best practices. It draws on a growing body of literature identifying a role for expanded epistemological and subject discipline perspectives. We have learned to be crafty homemakers, small space decorators, and even teachers through the eye-catching appeal of sites like Pinterest or Teachers Pay Teachers (TPT). The accessibility and ease of searching for a preset lesson saves time, and in a society where teachers are paid far less than what they are worth and asked to work longer hours than they are paid for, this makes sense. This dissertation is centered on the metaethics and moral ontology of Erik Wielenberg. The central task of the dissertation is to examine Wielenberg’s metaethical view termed “Godless Normative Realism” and ascertain the ontological implications therein. I contend that Wielenberg’s moral ontology ultimately fails to establish moral realism and aspects of his metaethics are better explained by the existence of God rather than his non-existence.

Chapter One presents Erik Wielenberg’s metaethics within the background of the historical progression of moral ontology and contemporary approaches to moral realism. Tracing from ancient foundations of theistic moral realism I show how moral antirealism grew …
