With the recent release of numerous year-end entertainment honors and recognitions, excitement is brewing in the Film and Television world. Awards season is here, and audiences pay close attention to nominations and critic reviews to decide which movies to catch in theatres. With so much weight resting on their reviews, critics must watch movies a little differently than general audience members, looking for elements of the film to both praise and critique.

Teaching Students How To Make Their Dreams Come True: An Autoethnography Of Developing And Teaching The Dream Research Methods Course, E. James Baesler
Teaching Students How To Make Their Dreams Come True: An Autoethnography Of Developing And Teaching The Dream Research Methods Course, E. James Baesler
The Qualitative Report
How to make students’ dreams come true is the central focus of this autoethnography that chronicles the story of the transformation of a traditional undergraduate communication research methods course into a new and creative dream research methods course. Pedagogical and institutional issues in teaching the traditional methods course join personal influences in my life story to birth the new dream research methods course. The content and format of the new course are described chronologically using personal stories, student perspectives, advice to teachers, and reflection questions. I encourage teachers, by experimenting with the ideas in the dream research methods course, to …

Older People In A Community Gospel Choir: Musical Engagement And Social Connection, Dawn Joseph, Jane Southcott
The Qualitative Report
This research explores the role of community music in the lives of older Australians. This qualitative case study investigated the meanings and understandings ascribed by participants to their musical engagement in the South of the River Community Gospel Choir. This mixed a cappella SATB choir was formed in 2002 in Melbourne. The choir began with a repertoire of African-American Gospel music and South African Freedom Songs. With time their musical choices have transitioned to include more contemporary Australian composed works. The choir sings in diverse community settings such as high security prisons, palliative care, hospitals and the more common range …

Cracking Down: A Longitudinal Study Of The Judiciary's Changing War On Drugs, Jennifer P. Schrauth

In the United States, drugs continue to be a longstanding problem, causing the addictions and deaths of millions of people. Although drug and drug epidemic trends change with the passage of time, their similarly harmful effects on humanity and society have remained the same. Through drug rehabilitation, particularly Drug Courts, a great deal of the chaos caused by drugs has been stopped. Through research, including the examination of studies, facts, epidemics, drug trends over time, and personal experience working with judges who have helped to create Drug Courts, I conclude that adaptability and group effort were the key pieces in …

Sohni Mahiwal Preserving South Asian Cultural Heritage Through Animated Storytelling, Anem Syed
Theses
Majority of Pakistani youth is not enthralled by the country’s rich cultural heritage. There is less public knowledge on the subject. This translates into less appreciation or interest. The academic system is largely responsible for this. It imparts a conservative history of undivided India, focuses on politics, ignores its nuanced culture. Unless students venture into specialized fields of art and humanities, most do not get stimulated to study history. Additionally, today when digital learning is on the rise, there is a lack of relevant sources on the subject. This thesis is creating a digital source. It is re-packaging an Indian …

Sounding And Dressing The Part: Understanding Macbeth Through Language And Costume, Jacqueline Peveto
Sounding And Dressing The Part: Understanding Macbeth Through Language And Costume, Jacqueline Peveto
Conversations: A Graduate Student Journal of the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Theology
Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare, is a complex tragedy driven by the relationships of its characters. While it can appear that Macbeth decides his own actions, staging of this production greatly influences the audience’s perception of Macbeth as a character. Is Macbeth inherently disposed towards evil, or do the witches possess him to do these wicked deeds? In stage productions, the relationship of Macbeth to the three witches influences readings of Macbeth and his status as a sympathetic character. This paper will analyze the link between the witches and Macbeth through the relationship identifiers of verbal similarity and costume in …
Becoming Rasuwa Relief: Practices Of Multiple Engagement In Post-Earthquake Nepal, Austin Lord, Galen Murton
Becoming Rasuwa Relief: Practices Of Multiple Engagement In Post-Earthquake Nepal, Austin Lord, Galen Murton
HIMALAYA, the Journal of the Association for Nepal and Himalayan Studies
In this article, we reflect on the multiple nature of our engagements in the wake of the 7.8m earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25th 2015. Specifically, we trace the events, experiences, decisions, positions, and processes that constituted our work with a post-earthquake volunteer initiative we helped to form, called Rasuwa Relief. Using the concept of multiplicity (cf. Mol 2002), we consider the uncertain process by which Rasuwa Relief began to cohere, as a collective of diverse efforts, interventions, projects, and commitments, and how Rasuwa Relief was continually and multiply enacted through practices of engagement. As a collaborative effort that …
