Peaks Island Archives Finding Aid

The Peaks Island Branch Library Archives comprise the 15 linear feet of Special Collections assembled and located at the Peaks Island Branch of the Portland Public Library. The collection of ephemera, cemetery records, scrapbooks, postcards, photographic images, periodicals, maps, reports, audiovisuals, and Peaks Island printed material span the 20^th century- up to the present. Bulk dates for the archive are from circa 1960 – present. Background: Pain after laparoscopic cholecystectomy is mild to moderate in intensity. Several modalities are employed for achieving safe and effective postoperative analgesia, the benefits of which adds to the early recovery of the patients. As a part of multimodal analgesia, various approaches of Transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block has been used for management of parietal and incisional components of pain after laparoscopic cholecystectomy. This study was designed to compare the analgesic efficacy of two different approaches of ultrasound guided TAP block, i.e., Subcostal-TAP block technique with ultrasound guided Posterior-TAP block for postoperative pain management in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy under …

This study outlines the economic and fiscal impacts of the redevelopment of the Variety Village District, comprised of the Variety Theatre Complex, a new public parking lot, and 40,000 square feet of new retail along Lorain Avenue. In addition, as shown in the full report, a portion of the location decision for at least three local industries which are moving to, or expanding their enterprise in, the immediate Westown neighborhood, can be attributed to the catalytic effect of the Variety Village District redevelopment.

Reflections On Digitization, Outreach, And The Value Of Ephemera In Special Collections: A Case Study, Gregory K. Seppi

Journal of Western Archives

This case study describes the process L. Tom Perry Special Collections used to create and promote a digital collection of ephemera on Internet Archive. It follows the process from selection to uploading, discusses how decisions related to digitization were made, and how the collection was promoted following digitization. This paper establishes the value of digitizing ephemera related to topics known to be of interest to patrons and demonstrates one approach to special collections outreach. Data gathered during the creation of this case study demonstrates that even small efforts to promote digital collections can significantly improve usage of niche ephemera collections …

Household waste comprises of garbage and rubbish from individual home and flats/ apartments. This waste consists of fruits and vegetables, food scrapes, papers, cans and bottles, clothes, chocolate wrappers, shampoo bottles and sachets etc. These are non- hazardous wastes generated by household and can be recycled. A Gender-Non-Conforming Method: Trans* Methodologies For Trans* Subjects, Ilia Forkin

sprinkle: an undergraduate journal of feminist and queer studies

This paper analyses the methodology of sociological studies on gender-non-conforming (GNC) subjects in the context of prominent critiques by GNC theorists who have asserted the necessity of centering the needs, perspectives, and cultural work of transgender (trans*) and GNC academics and subjects. The paper explains how studies which favor an interactionist model of sociology prioritize notions of gender which uphold heteronormativity and erase the lived-experiences of the subjects they concern. As a solution to this obstacle, this paper proposes strategies to assist in the creation of participatory models of sociology which engage with gender in a way which reflects the …
