How To Be The Perfect Asian Wife!, Sophia Hill

Art and Art History Honors Projects

“How to be the Perfect Asian Wife” critiques exploitative power systems that assault female bodies of color in intersectional ways. This work explores strategies of healing and resistance through inserting one’s own narrative of flourishing rather than surviving, while reflecting violent realities. Three large drawings mimic pervasive advertisement language and presentation reflecting the oppressive strategies used to contain women of color. Created with charcoal, watercolor, and ink, these 'advertisements' contrast with an interactive rice bag filled with comics of my everyday experiences. These documentations compel viewers to reflect on their own participation in systems of power.

Use Of Halothane Vaporizer For The Administration Of Sevoflurane During General Anesthesia, Basim Hrez Ali

The vaporizer based on specific saturated vapor pressure for each inhalation anesthetic agent. The purpose this study is to determine the precise corresponding sevoflurane concentrations when halothane vaporizer is used for supplying it. This study is carried out by using a mathematical equation based on the difference in saturated vapor pressure, splitting ratio of halothane and sevoflurane at different delivered concentration dial of halothane vaporizer. The data of this study provides a comparative table that help to use halothane vaporizer to provide a precise known delivered sevoflurane concentration. True Confessions from a Wannabe Heel is a collection composed of memoir -themed personal essays in lyrical and mosaic styles touching on the themes of violence, wrestling, sexuality, love, mental health, and the significance of home. The essays are representative of my experiences growing up in an unstable home and how the effects of growing up in that environment shaped how I view the world around me. Narratives Of Agency: Women, Islam, And The Politics Of Economic Participation In Afghanistan, Farhana Rahman

Journal of International Women's Studies

This paper analyzes Afghan businesswomen’s experiences and their attempts at engaging in the economic sector, and the manner in which they have navigated political, social, and cultural impediments to build and sustain economic enterprises, to reclaim agency in the post-Taliban era. Through in-depth interviews with three Afghan businesswomen in conjunction with observations of their daily lives, this discussion explores how Afghan businesswomen negotiate between international discourses on women’s employment and work, and hyper-conservative values of Afghan society that prevent women from accessing economic opportunities. Our keynote will examine the progress of work at the intersections of information literacy and scholarly communications, since the publication of “Intersections of Scholarly Communication and Information Literacy: Creating Strategic Collaborations for a Changing Academic Environment,” in 2013. We will discuss the persistent drivers that make the Intersections relevant and essential, including the ACRL Framework released in 2015 and the general higher education landscape, which continues to shift due to changing demographics and economic uncertainty. By focusing on our collaborative and collective action, we will identify how we can continue the momentum behind the Intersections.

New Perspectives: Reno Street Art In Virtual Reality, Amy J. Hunsaker, Laura Rocke

UNR Libraries’ Digital Initiatives Unit and Digital Media Technology Department partnered with an art historian, local art organizations, and Reno street artists to create an online archive, exhibit, and virtual reality experience highlighting the explosion of urban street art in Reno. The Libraries assembled a team that photographed the art using traditional 2D digital cameras, and captured 360 VR footage of the art and of several artists creating interior and exterior murals. The team conducted on-camera interviews of prominent street artists in Reno; collected permission forms; generated metadata; preserved the images and created an archive using CatDV, the Libraries’ media …

The continued increase of digital tools and methods in both teaching and research has created a need for initial and ongoing support within institutions. While each institution has its own specific needs, we can learn a great deal from each other’s approaches and experiences. This presentation offers as a case study Harvard University’s recent (and ongoing) experience working across groups and divisional boundaries to support digital scholarship, digital methods-related courses, and the integration of digital components into courses and assignments through training, consultation, and the development and implementation of digital tools and methods.

As part of the UNLV Libraries’ goal to determine an appropriate level of engagement with ORCID, our pre-pilot investigated the feasibility of a Libraries-led service to populate faculty ORCID profiles with citations for scholarly works, allowing UNLV to better track and promote their research. This project sought to test the requirements and scalability of using currently-available data to populate researcher profiles via the ORCID API, gauging the benefits against the cost in Library resources. This paper focuses on the theoretical and scholarly influences upon Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin in the years prior to 1967, and how that affected their motivations and decisions regarding their pre-Yippie activism in the fall of 1967. It focuses on two events: the August demonstration at the New York Stock Exchange and the National Mobilization to End the War in Vietnam’s March on the Pentagon in October (specifically on Jerry Rubin’s role and Abbie Hoffman’s intent to levitate the Pentagon).
