Girl Power: Recovering The Female Stage Voice In Ben Jonson’S The Masque Of Queens, Sara Severens
Girl Power: Recovering The Female Stage Voice In Ben Jonson’S The Masque Of Queens, Sara Severens
Student Scholar Showcase
The Masque of Queens by Ben Jonson was written in 1609, and is a play about chaos and order. My research focused on the significance of royal women as lead roles in a play when society did not allow females to be employed as actors, the juxtaposition of royal high class and the witches who open the play in an “anti-masque,” and the role masques played in the greater order of the literary canon.
I chose this topic because masques are a neglected genre of English literature and theatre that could be better utilized in classrooms, as well as in …
The Influence Of Musical Theater And How To Incorporate It In The Classroom, Chris Young
The Influence Of Musical Theater And How To Incorporate It In The Classroom, Chris Young
Student Scholar Showcase
Over the course of the 20th and 21st centuries, musical theater experienced many advancements and changes from its origins such as Show Boat (1927), Into the Woods (1986), and Hamilton (2016). Teachers can use themes from Hamilton and other Broadway shows today to create a lesson plan that utilizes simple melody and rhyme scheme to teach students about musical theater.
With the intent of improving music pedagogy, the purpose of this research was to teach methods of Musical Theater into the classroom. The particular problems of this study were to: (1) trace the creation of American Broadway Theatre; (2) explore …

Making Room For Bilingual Education: A Mexican-American Study, Julie Donnadieu
Making Room For Bilingual Education: A Mexican-American Study, Julie Donnadieu
Graduate Student Independent Studies
This Independent Study aims to explain, through the author's new understandings, the political underpinnings and concrete effects of the English-only movement that practically eliminated bilingual education programs in the public school systems of California and Arizona in 1998 and 2000 respectively. Through a review of the pertinent literature, this review presents a broad history of bilingual education in the United Sates, and the negative effects English-only legislation has had on the linguistic, academic and social development of immigrant children in California and Arizona. As the United Sates' social and racial composition has changed in the last decades, the battle against …

Preparing For College: The Effects Of High School Speech Experience On Critical Thinking, Information Literacy, Communication Apprehension, And College Preparedness, Brian M. Rohman
Theses and Dissertations
The effects of the college-level basic communication course are well documented. However, a stand-alone, high school communication course is becoming a rare sight across the United States. This study seeks to examine educational outcomes of learning communication skills at the high school level on college freshman. Students enrolled in a college-level basic communication course were surveyed on factors such as critical thinking, information literacy, fake news identification, communication apprehension, and preparedness for college through speech preparation as well as grit. While few significant findings were found, implications for the study of communication at the high school level are examined.

Hospital Ships In The War On Terror, Richard J. Grunawalt
Hospital Ships In The War On Terror, Richard J. Grunawalt
Naval War College Review
Employment of military hospital ships in support of the war on terror is militarily, politically, and morally appropriate. White ships adorned with the red cross or red crescent are internationally recognized as protected platforms engaged exclusively in the care and treatment of the casualties of war or the victims of disaster, whether natural or manmade. Despite the humanity of their mission, outdated rules of conventional and customary international law, designed for a bygone era, hamper their effectiveness and imperil their safety.
The Attack At Taranto, Angelo N. Caravaggio
The Attack At Taranto, Angelo N. Caravaggio
Naval War College Review
The lack of a decisive British victory in the Mediterranean theater fundamen- tally affected British maritime strategy throughout the Second World War. The Royal Italian Navy, or Regia Marina Italiana (RMI), exerted a disproportion- ate influence on British strategy and fleet disposition, because its existence could not be ignored and British operations to eliminate it failed. On 11 November 1940, Admiral Andrew Cunningham, the British commander of naval forces in the Mediterranean, had the opportunity to eliminate the entire complement of battleships from the Italian order of battle, at Taranto.
