Dramaturgy For Henrik Ibsen's "A Doll's House", Rachel Boyle

ONU Student Research Colloquium

For the Freed Center for the Performing Arts Spring 2022 production of A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen I served as Dramaturg. My role on the production team involved providing historical context, literary analysis and necessary research for the production. My work began with the director in August and continued through the design process, rehearsals, and performances in late February. My research was used by the director, production team, and actors. A Strategic Analysis Of Spotify, Andrew J. Jensen Apr 2022

A Strategic Analysis Of Spotify, Andrew J. Jensen

University of Montana Conference on Undergraduate Research (UMCUR)

Companies are amassing bigger global footprints. Therefore, it is imperative for users of their financial statements to understand how those companies work, especially with the uptick in streaming as more people are staying at home. A company analysis can help inform potential investors and other financial statement users on the intricacy of a company. Spotify, an international music streaming service, impacts many users with its strategic model. Many of these users are not familiar with Spotify’s strategic model, and it is valuable for that model to be broken down and explained in simpler terms. My PowerPoint presentation digs into financial …

What The World Needs Now: Love, Humor And The Shakespeare Connection, Kelly Capers Apr 2022

What The World Needs Now: Love, Humor And The Shakespeare Connection, Kelly Capers

English MA Theses

What the World Needs Now: Love, Humor and the Shakespeare Connection discusses how the modern romantic comedy (rom com) genre depicts gender roles in adaptations of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Taming of the Shrew. This paper looks at Shakespeare’s contributions to the themes of romantic comedy and how 21st Century filmmakers interpret his concepts. Because rom com typically lacks value among scholars, much of this genre’s impact on audiences is overlooked, yet its popularity makes it an undeniable presence deserving a closer examination. The 2020 pandemic brought into specific relief, not only the popularity …

Female participants were recruited to share their feelings towards their own personal body satisfaction, how they perceive advertisements, how they feel about the brand based on the advertisement that they view, and their intentions to buy the product. The study found that while the original hypotheses were not statistically significant, that there was a positive correlation of customers being more likely to …

Goddess Of France, 1745-1764: Madame De Pompadour And The Rococo Traditions Of 18th-Century French Portraiture, Meredith Glasco

Departmental Honors & Graduate Capstone Projects

The reign of Louis XV of France was spectacular in its advancement of the Late Rococo period due to the patronage of Madame de Pompadour, his head mistress from 1745-1764. Her upbringing as an educated woman in court would influence trends of Late Rococo that she would use to embellish her own public image. I seek to identify and explain the different elements of her court portraits and mythological portraits as a way to examine her roles as patron and mistress. Six portraits, three from each category of court and mythological, will be used as specific examples and to provide …

Miami's Hidden Labor History, Thomas A. Castillo Apr 2022

Miami's Hidden Labor History, Thomas A. Castillo

Florida Historical Quarterly

As historian Michael Kazin argued in highlighting the scarcity of historical studies about the building trades, labor historians' concentration on centralized, mass production industries such as auto, steel, and electrical manufacturing has left out "one of humankind's oldest pursuits . . . essential to urban life and the single largest element of the AFL in its heyday. Until we know more about their history," he wrote, "that of American workers as a whole will suffer." The observation partially explains why, although literature on organized labor is vast, scholars have conducted few studies of unionism in the building trades, and none …

How Would Jesus Watch This? An Investigation Into Dance Restrictions In American Protestantism, Rebecca Lynn Huppenthal Apr 2022

How Would Jesus Watch This? An Investigation Into Dance Restrictions In American Protestantism, Rebecca Lynn Huppenthal

Theatre & Dance ETDs

In the United States there has been many disagreements concerning the place of dance within Protestant Christianity. Some denominations have banned dance entirely while other utilize dance as an essential element of worship. At the center of this argument is the understanding, treatment, and use of the physical body. Beginning in the sixteenth century through current times, I analyze specific Protestant denominations including the Puritans, Evangelical Fundamentalists, Southern Baptists, the Shakers, certain African American denominations, and Pentecostals. Additionally, I examine notable liturgical modern dancers, as well as my own choreographic work, a dance film titled Rebirth. This research displays …
