Chattahoochee River Front: Creating A Public Space For The City Of Atlanta, Samantha Manders
Chattahoochee River Front: Creating A Public Space For The City Of Atlanta, Samantha Manders
Bachelor of Architecture Theses - 5th Year
The city of Atlanta lacks public spaces. Atlanta is characterized by many high-rise buildings, and a bare urban fabric that is accessed by automobile-oriented roads rather than pedestrian streets. Dense city centers such as Buckhead, Midtown, and Downtown, lacks proper public places that support social cohesion. While the city is renowned for its green spaces and the tree canopy, much of the public space is dedicated as green parks rather than plazas as extension of the street network. When the development of Atlanta began, it was designed as a railroad city. This took the focus off its natural course of …
Reconnecting A Disconnected City : Through Placemaking Strategies, Gabriel Arroyo
Reconnecting A Disconnected City : Through Placemaking Strategies, Gabriel Arroyo
Bachelor of Architecture Theses - 5th Year
My thesis is motivated by a growing interest in our urbanized landscapes and their effect on social behavior. Developing a term that refers to a places lack of engagement with the people it serves, aids in capturing the necessity of a project like this today. The modern era of today’s cities have unconciously enabled this term “Placelessness”, this lack of a defined sense of place, be a recurring problem due to urban sprawl, economic imbalances, and technologies negative influence on social patterns. Our public assets are losing distinctive characteristics such as its Identity, Belonging, and Coherence; thus, amplifying the notion …

Facilitate Learning: Using Architecture As A Teaching Tool, Doron Zarur
Bachelor of Architecture Theses - 5th Year
This thesis proposes a new design for an architecture school that looks beyond the verbal and formal way of teaching, engaging students with multiple modes of learning to help them understand the fundamentals of architecture. The thesis looks at the positive impact of this new learning style - providing spaces that visually teach the construction and concepts of building, the foundation of architecture. This research explores visually providing various types of structures in the same space that students learn, strengthening the learner’s understanding and enabling a broader perspective of the content. It also can lead to better solutions for design …

Engaging The Adult College Student: A Case Study On Improving Nontraditional Students’ Persistence, Conzolo L. Migliozzi
Engaging The Adult College Student: A Case Study On Improving Nontraditional Students’ Persistence, Conzolo L. Migliozzi
Instructional Design Capstones Collection
Nontraditional students, defined as those age 25 and older, had a first-year persistence rate of just 46.8% in 2019 (National Student Clearinghouse, 2021). The Education Fund, a large non-profit that provides training and tuition assistance to healthcare workers, is acutely aware of this problem as its membership is made up almost entirely of nontraditional learners. The Education Fund has many college readiness programs, and in an effort to improve upon their outcomes, requested this study on student persistence. Research on nontraditional student persistence was conducted and key Education Fund staff were interviewed as part of this project. While the literature …

A Quarry In The Urban Landscape: Building Down In Architecture, Derrick Kafunda
A Quarry In The Urban Landscape: Building Down In Architecture, Derrick Kafunda
Bachelor of Architecture Theses - 5th Year
A quarry is an excavation or open pit mine that does not mine for minerals like copper, gold diamonds or any other precious gemstones but for materials that are mainly used in the building industry from the surface of the earth. As this process takes place the dust from this process is released in the atmosphere and when the process is complete the pit is usually not buried. What usually remains are the left-over debris and water from the rain which forms an artificial lake. If unattended, Pit Lakes, as they are called, become dumping grounds. This research will aim …

An Artistic Response To Social Unrest In Hong Kong: Utilizing The Arts To Build Up And Sustain An Understanding And Respectful Community, Shue-Kei Joanna Mok
Peace and Conflict Studies
The 2019–20 Hong Kong protests, commenced in March 2019, were triggered by the introduction of The Fugitive Offenders and Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Legislation Bill 2019 by the Hong Kong government. In June 2019, peaceful civil disobedience escalated into violence, signalling the emergence of polarization and antagonism in the city. As of December 2019, an estimated 300,000 excess probable depressive cases and 810,000 suspected PTSD cases were associated with the 2019–20 social unrest. Furthermore with the pandemic, the hopelessness manifested in the city and citizen’s mental wellbeing are of extreme concern. Given the holistic and therapeutic nature of …

Cosmopolitanism And The Scottish Working-Class Writer: John Parkinson/Yehya-En-Nasr And Islam In Ayrshire, Kirstie Blair
Studies in Scottish Literature
Explores the grassroots cosmopolitan and international literary interests of Scottish working-class writers, through the writing of the Scottish poet and convert to Islam John Parkinson or "Yehya-en-Nasr" (1874-1918), in the Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald, in the monthly The Islamic World and the weekly newspaper The Crescent, as a journalist in Rangoon, and in book form, notably his Lays of Love and War (Ardrossan, n.d.), arguing that Parkinson's "Muslim cosmopolitanism" and his local Ayrshire identity and contexts were inextricably intertwined.

This paper was intended to be a practicum in the study of financial accounting. The different sections encompass many distinct aspects of the field and was completed over two semesters.
