Jane Austen: A Study On The Influences, World, And Character Of An Eighteenth-Century Novelist, Elisabeth Phillips
Bound Away: The Liberty Journal of History
Jane Austen is one of the most influential authors in history and her works are regarded as timeless classics. Her ability to harness the motif of the strong, independent woman in a time when society wanted women to have neither attribute is incomparable in contemporary works. This article examines Austen's life and the variety of factors (family, religious, intellectual, historical) that molded her mind and character and thus informed the characters she created and the stories she crafted.
The Effect Of Loan Debt On Graduation By Department: A Bayesian Hierarchical Approach, Chuan Cai, Adam Fleischhacker
The Effect Of Loan Debt On Graduation By Department: A Bayesian Hierarchical Approach, Chuan Cai, Adam Fleischhacker
Journal of Student Financial Aid
Using data from three cohorts at the University of Delaware, this study investigates the effects of student loan debt on six-year graduation by department over five years. The effects are estimated from five Bayesian hierarchical models, one model for each year. The Bayesian hierarchical model uses a partial pooling technique to address the over-fitting issue when estimating the effects of loan debt, and this technique is especially beneficial to departments with small enrollments. Similar to the observation that financial aid has different effects by racial and ethnic groups, and socioeconomic groups, findings suggest a pronounced department-level loan debt effect for …

Lam-Related Research Funded Under Spain’S National Research Agenda (2010 – 2020), Ana R. Pacios, Sara Martínez Cardama
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
This study analysed and contextualised research on LAMs (acronym for libraries, archives and museums) funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation under competitive calls for projects from 2010 to 2020. The ultimate intention was to verify the existence or otherwise of a national research agenda on these cultural institutions. The initial search and location of Spanish Ministry-funded projects in official sources was followed by data processing and grouping by subject category. A total of 145 projects were analysed. The results showed LAM projects to be scant in number, highly varied in terms of subject matter, poorly funded, widely …

Persevering With Bandwagoning, Not Hedging: Why European Security Cooperation Still Conforms To Realism, Lorenzo Cladi
Persevering With Bandwagoning, Not Hedging: Why European Security Cooperation Still Conforms To Realism, Lorenzo Cladi
School of Law, Humanities and Social Sciences
Over the past few years, European security cooperation has been revived. The EU has launched several defence initiatives and some member states, such as France have launched their own collaborative initiatives. The renewed activism in European security cooperation followed several years of inactivity and warrants theoretical investigation. Hedging is a concept that has been employed to make sense of renewed activism in European security cooperation. By pursuing hedging, Europeans are preparing for a future in which the US might be unwilling or unable to get involved, and to assist with, European security affairs. Advancing a neorealist analysis, this article argues …

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Faculty Papers
BACKGROUND: One of the important factors for surgical site infection prevention is the implementation of an ultraclean operating room. This study was designed to evaluate back-table sterility during total joint arthroplasty.
METHODS: This prospective study includes 52 patients undergoing primary total joint arthroplasty between November 2021 and January 2022. A total of 4 swabs (2 air swabs and 2 table swabs) were obtained for each case, at the conclusion of surgery and prior to the takedown of drapes. Vulnerability And Hypocrisy In Suzan Lori Parks' In The Blood, Hussein Hdheam Hbean, Ikhlas Mohammed Nati Al-Abedi
Uruk Journal of Human Sciences
Black women's struggles for authority and identity are underreported not only within the political and social living days of the territory black females call home (for example, dark skin females), yet also in critical and creative literary works. Suzan-Lori Parks [1963-] – for her willingness to bring authority to black females who really are silenced. In her work, she attempted to demonstrate how racial identity, privilege, and sex all play a role in black female's oppression in United States. Because they are black, poor, and women, the [female] main characters in her work seem to be victims. Suzan-Lori Parks is …
