India's Take On Legal Remedy Of Passing Off: A Celebrity's Perspective, Niharika Salar, Sonal Sinha May 2023

India's Take On Legal Remedy Of Passing Off: A Celebrity's Perspective, Niharika Salar, Sonal Sinha

Indian Journal of Law and Technology

The development of mass media led to the development of intrigue and curiosity around celebrities and their persona, and the profits hidden therein. Harping upon this intrigue, stakeholders realised the brand power behind celebrity personalities. However, problems arose when there was an increase in the unauthorised exploitation of celebrity personalities. While on the legal front, several remedies are resorted to, William Prosser narrowed down these into four, i.e., intrusion into one’s private space, disclosure of one’s personal and private facts, disclosure of incorrect facts that puts one under a false light and misappropriating one’s personality for commercial gain. Hinged on …

C. S. Lewis And The Occult Temptation, Thomas Garrett Isham May 2023

C. S. Lewis And The Occult Temptation, Thomas Garrett Isham

Sehnsucht: The C. S. Lewis Journal

Twice in his life C. S. Lewis encountered—and greatly admired—authors involved in occult theory and practice.1 The first such figure was William Butler Yeats, the second, more than two decades later, Charles Williams. Lewis reacted to their occult preoccupations in quite different ways, even while acknowledging his continuing fascination with the subject.

The Mental Side-Effects Of Commercial Dance, Katie Carnaroli May 2023

The Mental Side-Effects Of Commercial Dance, Katie Carnaroli

Honors College Theses

This research evaluates the spectrum between mental adversities and mental triumphs that commercial dancers face within the four professional settings of auditions, training, rehearsals, and performances. As a senior commercial dance major at Pace University, I have found myself in many facets of the dance industry within my four years of higher education wondering how certain environments either took away or fueled my love for dance. I sought to conduct a Qualtrics survey that was completed by college dance majors and professional dancers expressing their experiences of the positive and negative connotations of the mental grit that is required of …

Legacy, Joseph Jackson May 2023

Legacy, Joseph Jackson

Theses

What will A.I. look like in the near future, and how will we incorporate it? In the past decade, I have seen personal assistants like Siri and Alexa become common. I believe that the next leap in personal assistants will not be a new personality entirely but one our own choosing. Legacy is a short fiction film that offers a glimpse into the life of a programmer named Wright, who works at an A.I. company called Legacy. Legacy is a subscription-based A.I. personal assistant developer that creates a likeness of historical persons and celebrities. Following the recent death of Wright’s …

Witnessing Torture: Staged Violence, Spectatorship And The Theatre Of Political Imprisonment, Kyle Imbeau May 2023

Witnessing Torture: Staged Violence, Spectatorship And The Theatre Of Political Imprisonment, Kyle Imbeau

Honors Program Theses and Projects

In a recent interview, renowned fight director B.H. Barry said of his work, and of the nature of violence, "I’m not frightened of violence. It’s a way of expressing something that you can’t do with words" (Kennedy). Staged violence has been common in performance from its origins, often necessitated by a text, and has evolved into its own discipline of theatre practice with regulations and credentialing processes to ensure the safety of actors and audiences. As such, we have come to know staged violence as a practical problem to be solved, a cog in the machine of a production process. …

Household Heroes: An Examination Of Domestic Workers' Rights In The United States And Mexico, Kaitlyn Sutton

Honors College Theses

Since 2018, worker's rights have become a forefront in the battle to developing a more equitable nation in Mexico, specifically regarding domestic employees. In my honors thesis I compare the rights of domestic workers in both the United States and Mexico using elements set forth in the SA8000 Standard formed by the Social Accountability International Organization in order to analyze which country grants more access to these liberties. I then examine different cross-cultural management styles in the countries as a method for explaining the differences in right. I also discuss advocacy groups still fighting for more freedom as well as …

The Reading Life Of Young Jack Lewis, 1914-1917, Harry Lee Poe

Sehnsucht: The C. S. Lewis Journal

Excerpt: "What follows is a list of what young Lewis read for his lessons with W. T. Kirkpatrick (over 50 works) and what he read for pleasure (over 150 works). He probably read more than this, but this is all that can be documented. We know that he read many of these books two times or more while at Gastons, because his letters to Arthur Greeves every week were full of discussions of what he was reading at the time."
