Everybody

Taylor Theatre Playbills

The playbill for Taylor University's performance of Everybody by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins.

Performed September 14-17, 2023 at the Mitchell Theatre.

Everybody is a modern adaptation of the 15th-century morality play Everyman. The story follows a character named Everybody, who is summoned by Death to embark on a journey to account for their life and choices before God. As Everybody seeks companionship for this final journey, they encounter personifications of abstract concepts like Friendship, Kinship, Stuff, Mind, and Love. The play uses a unique casting lottery system, where roles are assigned randomly at each performance, symbolizing the unpredictability of death. Through …

Destination Integration: Linking Physiology, Histology, And Embryology Content In Foundational Sciences, Jennifer F. Dennis, Bradley A. Creamer

Faculty and Staff Publications

Anatomy and physiology are tightly linked disciplines that complement each other, however, in medical education delivery of this content is often siloed and divided. To address this, we created combined anatomy and physiology content for the female reproductive system, and team-taught designated histology and embryology topics integrated with the physiology content. Collectively, this created a more holistic incorporation of topics for student learning. Here we describe the format and approach for this teaching innovation.

Narrating Egyptian Women’S Prison Experiences - El Saadawi And Bakr, Nour El Captan Sep 2023

Narrating Egyptian Women’S Prison Experiences - El Saadawi And Bakr, Nour El Captan

The Undergraduate Research Journal

The research attempts to discover what Egyptian women prisoners’ experience was like in the 1980s and 90s through studying two major texts which fall under the genre of prison literature: Twelve Women in a Cell by Nawal El Saadawi and The Golden Chariot by Salwa Bakr. Through a thorough reading and analysis of the works, similar tropes and different attitudes can be found in the texts. Both works discussed class, comradery, and the patriarchy but differences exist when it comes to their different portrayals of prison.

Education And Democracy From Brown To Plyler, Nicholas Espíritu Sep 2023

Education And Democracy From Brown To Plyler, Nicholas Espíritu

St. John's Law Review

(Excerpt)

Judicial review has often been cast in terms of democratic legitimacy. Democratic legitimacy is often linked to whether it institutes the will of the people through majoritarian rule and whether it creates processes for reevaluation of these prior decisions by newly constituted majorities. Judicial review of majoritarian decisions has often been criticized as a overriding or circumventing of these democratic processes. Beginning with Brown v. Board of Education, the Warren Court adopted a resolution of the “counter-majoritarian difficulty” of judicial review by tacitly accepting Justice Stone’s formulation from footnote four of United States v. Carolene Products and engaging …

Anesthesia Provider’S Use And Perception Of Emergency Cognitive Aids, Katie Mette Sep 2023

Anesthesia Provider’S Use And Perception Of Emergency Cognitive Aids, Katie Mette

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Student Projects

Cognitive aids have been shown to increase proper use of evidence-based practice treatment strategies in emergent scenarios. These treatment strategies can be unfamiliar to the provider as emergencies are rare, and when coupled with a heightened stress level and sense of urgency, relying on memory alone can be challenging. The purpose of this project was to implement a set of emergency-use cognitive aids developed by Stanford University known as the Stanford Emergency Manual into a set of operating rooms and measure the anesthesia providers use and perception of the cognitive aid via pre-implementation and post-implementation e-mailed surveys.

Is Ai An Actor?, Emily Wirkus

AI Assignment Library

Students are taught a system of marking scripts and monologues using a series of steps to highlight the flow of action, including shifts in objectives and tactics (what the character wants, and the active language describing how they hope to get what they want). Students are challenged to mark a monologue themselves using these criteria taught in class. Students will then upload their monologue into ChatGPT and ask it to score the monologue using the same criteria. Students will compare and contrast the two monologues and evaluate what ChatGPT created that was useful, and what ChatGPT may have missed. Students …

Ai Costume Design Assignment, Kylie Mcdonald

AI Assignment Library

I used this rubric in class to go over the understanding of Chat GPT and how we can use it for costume design. I emphasized that Chat GPT is generated and not reliable in the search for knowledge but can be used to start the creative process. In my assignment, I have created two random picker wheels that the students use to get a character and a play. They use Chat GPT to give them the summary of the play they were randomly assigned using the voice of the character they were assigned. The goal of the assignment is to …

Re-Examining, Re-Empowering: The Effect Of Contextualizing Testimonial Theatre On Spect-Actors, Felicia Owusu-Ansah

Spect-actor: A Journal of Pedagogy & Theatre of the Oppressed

To be empowered, freed from rejection, silence and trauma, one may have no choice but to speak up. But how does the silenced speak in the presence of the oppressor? At this point, theatre (of testimony) became the most useful tool to break the silence among irregular returnees in Akuma, Ghana. This qualitative study article reports on the healing and empowering effects of Testimonial Theatre on spect-actors during its use for dissemination of research findings to the researched community. It aims to show how Testimonial Theatre’s effects of compassion and empathy led to the resilience of human essence, breaking silence, …

Theater Of The Oppressed And Augusto Boal, A Marxist Process, Geo Britto Sep 2023

Theater Of The Oppressed And Augusto Boal, A Marxist Process, Geo Britto

Spect-actor: A Journal of Pedagogy & Theatre of the Oppressed

The logic of capitalism is to think of each individual in an isolated way, where only they add up and we would have a social life as products separated from the objective and subjective relations that we realize. In the case of the artists this is a stronger logic still, often they themselves reinforce this idea as if they were in their ivory towers creating their theory and practice that they deliver magnificently to the society. Augusto Boal as every human being, was a collective being, fruit of various cultures, languages and different communities and a product of the social …

Relações Entre Teatro E Política No Trabalho Teatral De Boal No Pós-1964: A Coletivização Do Fazer Artistico Como Expressão Autoconsciente Da Produção Estética, Patricia Freitas

Spect-actor: A Journal of Pedagogy & Theatre of the Oppressed
