We Can Work It Out: Forensic Musicology Methods, Joe Bennett Oct 2023

We Can Work It Out: Forensic Musicology Methods, Joe Bennett

Faculty Works

In this chapter, I will argue that forensic musicology (FM) practice can answer this question by combining comparative musical analysis and repertoire research, contextualised within an understanding of how songwriters and composers create and how listeners hear. In doing so, I shall identify the methodological and phenomenological traps into which courts and juries can fall and suggest ways in which these can be anticipated and circumvented.

Everybody, Otterbein Theatre And Dance Department

2023-2024 Season Productions

Everybody is a play written by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins. It is a modern adaptation of the 15th-century morality play Everyman, one of the first recorded plays in the English language. The play premiered Off-Broadway at the Irene Diamond Stage at Signature Theatre Company on February 21, 2017 with previews beginning January 31, 2017 and a closing date of March 19, 2017.[1] The play features the unique casting quirk of using a lottery system to define the roles of the play. Each actor must memorize the entire script and be prepared to play any role. This is meant to symbolize the randomness …

Antropologi Indonesia

This paper describes the experiences of transwoman artists who navigate two realms of life: their daily life and their life as performance artists. They face the challenge of dealing with gender construction within a community that adheres to heteronormative beliefs. The focus of this study is on gender performativity and agency, specifically examining how a transwoman artist respond to gender discrimination and violence in ways that differ from their cisgender counterparts. The research employed ethnographic methods, including participant observation, to gain an immersive understanding of the informants' day-to-day activities. The findings of this study contribute to the existing understanding of …

Molecular And Biochemical Analysis Of Cytochrome P450 2c19 And 2d6, Reema Saleous

Thesis/ Dissertation Defenses

Pharmacogenomics (PGx) is a relatively new field of study. It links genetics to pharmacology since it deals with the influence of the genetic makeup of the individual on their ability to respond to specific medications. Some of the most important genes in this field, dubbed very important pharmacogenes (VIPs), belong to the cytochrome P450 (CYP) superfamily of drug metabolizing enzymes. The two members of this family that are the main focus of this thesis are CYP2C19 and CYP2D6. They play major roles in the metabolism of numerous medications, and it is therefore imperative that variations within those genes in various …

"It's Good To Doubt Saints, Vladim.": Medieval Constructions Of Sainthood, Their Histories, And Their Cults In Leigh Bardugo's Shadow And Bone, Kacie Barrett

Master's Theses

The Grishaverse is the fictional world created by author Leigh Bardugo that encompasses three separate series and ten different books. First published in 2012, the Shadow and Bone trilogy introduces readers to the world of Ravka, its Grisha, and its saints. The story follows Alina as she moves from orphan and soldier to saint and martyr. Sankta Alina becomes a character of its own – a version of Alina communicated to the people of Ravka as a banner to rally behind. She is made into living saint. The questions raised by Leigh Bardugo are echoed in church history. Sainthood is …

Experiencing The Improbable: How Does The Objective Probability Of A Magic Trick Occurring Influence A Spectator’S Experience?, Gustav Kuhn, Alice Pailhès, Joshua Jay, Max Lukian

School of Psychology

Magic is an art form that allows us to experience the impossible, but some magic tricks are more implausible than others. We present two experiments that examined whether the objective probability of a trick occurring by chance influences how people experience the trick. In Experiment 1, participants watched different versions of a magic trick in which we manipulated the statistical probability of the trick occurring by chance. We found that the objective probability had no significant impact on how much people enjoyed the trick or how impressed they were by it. Our participants enjoyed the trick equally when there was …

Music For All: An Intervention Project In An Artistic School In Portugal, Davys Moreno, Júlia Azevedo, Bernardo Lima, Nicola Davanzo

The Qualitative Report

In Portugal, in 2018, an action-research project began to find solutions so that children with cerebral palsy (CP) could learn music in Arts Education Programmes of Music (AEPM). When conducting the characterisation of the child with CP, which gave rise to the study, and a series of literature reviews to find out what has been done in this area, we came across several works related to different Accessible Digital Musical Instruments (ADMIs) which can be employed by users with different needs. In the present case of the child under study, two of these ADMIs were chosen and used because of …
