Everyday Gratitude In Times Of Uncertainty, Carol Wittmeyer
Everyday Gratitude In Times Of Uncertainty, Carol Wittmeyer
Business Faculty/Staff Publications
It’s worth reiterating: although Election Day has come and gone, political upheaval and uncertainty are far from over. And rather than drawing to a close, all evidence points to the Coronavirus pandemic gaining momentum before the arrival of a scarce vaccine requiring a demanding supply chain. Add ongoing (and perhaps escalating) racial tensions and economic disruption from which it will takes months and years to recover, and it’s no wonder so many of us are struggling to cultivate a positive outlook—and to help our employees, colleagues, students and families manage successfully through this time of complex, inter-related crises.

Marginal mean effects of the bivariate probit model indicate that wary perceptions on the use of gas are statistically significant …

The Masked Demos: Associational Anonymity And Democratic Practice, Jennifer Forestal, Menaka Philips
Political Science: Faculty Publications and Other Works
The increased use of anonymous digital platforms raises substantive concerns about accountability in digital spaces. However, contemporary evaluations of anonymity focus too narrowly on its protective function: its ability to protect a diversity of speakers and ideas. Drawing on two examples of anonymous political engagements – Publius’s writing of the Federalist Papers and college students’ use of the social media platform Yik Yak – we develop an account of anonymity’s associational function: the processes by which people generate and negotiate collective identities, discussions, and actions in wider publics. As we argue, anonymity’s associational function can (1) generate conditions under which …

Shedding Light On Sales Relationships: What Effect Does The Sunshine Act Have On Salesperson Ethical Behavior And Customer Response?, Rebecca Burcham
Shedding Light On Sales Relationships: What Effect Does The Sunshine Act Have On Salesperson Ethical Behavior And Customer Response?, Rebecca Burcham
PhD in Business Administration Dissertations
The financial relationship between physicians and pharmaceutical salespeople has long been scrutinized for the potential ethical issues that may arise from the influence that financial incentives have on physician prescribing behavior. Until recently, details of these financial incentives were only available to physicians and salespeople. In order to shed light on this relationship, Congress passed legislation, known as the Sunshine Act, with the intent to make transparent financial information. By shedding light on this information, the legislation’s intent is to mitigate the potential ethical issues that such a financial relationship poses. While previous studies examined the impact that the Sunshine …

BACKGROUND
Previous studies showed that food insecurity could adversely affect clinical outcomes of people living with HIV (PLWH). The mental health pathways of such effects are suggested in existing literature, but empirical data are limited in resource-limited settings.
METHODS
This cross-sectional study aims to explore the role of depressive symptoms and anxiety on the association between food insecurity and CD4 counts among a sample of 2,987 PLWH in Guangxi, China. Path analysis was used to examine a hypothetical model and delta ztest was used to assess the indirect effects of food insecurity on CD4 counts through depressive symptoms and …

Effects Of Visual Referencing On Backward And Forward Treadmill Walking In Vr Environments, Rahul Soangra, Sivakumar Rajagopal
Effects Of Visual Referencing On Backward And Forward Treadmill Walking In Vr Environments, Rahul Soangra, Sivakumar Rajagopal
Physical Therapy Faculty Articles and Research
Backward walking is used increasingly as a rehabilitation exercise for stroke and diabetic peripheral neuropathy patients to improve strength and balance. However, it is unclear how visual referencing affects backward and forward walking. In this study, we evaluated spatiotemporal gait characteristics changes due to visual referencing while backward/forward walking. Sixteen healthy young participants were recruited in this study. All participants walked for 2 min with and without visual referencing in the virtual reality environment. While walking backward participants faced the virtual reality screen similar to forward walking, but their treadmill belt direction of movement was reversed. All participants walked at …

Impact Of Stoplight Policies On Urban Traffic System Emissions, Jessica Pimentel Almonte
Impact Of Stoplight Policies On Urban Traffic System Emissions, Jessica Pimentel Almonte
Theses
With increasing urban populations (Boyd 2015), also comes higher land resource demands and more concentrated pollution levels. Increasing the efficiency of transportation systems is key to fostering sustainable urban development because it can decrease urban pollution levels, better meet the social demands of its residents, and decrease vehicle fuel consumption – encompassing the three pillars of sustainability: social, environment, and economic. This study aims to better understand the environmental impact of traffic light coordination and their timing policies in a randomly generated traffic network on an urban area. We focus on the effect of three different stoplight policies on emission …
