Aromatic hydrocarbons such as toluene and xylenes are widely used as solvents in industrial processes, particularly in paint production, despite their known toxicity. Occupational exposure to these chemicals poses significant health risks, especially for workers in the manufacturing and application sectors. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has reported an increased cancer risk associated with paint fume exposure, prompting regulatory agencies such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) to establish exposure limits. In Saudi Arabia, a key player in the petroleum and chemical industries, workers face …

Source Origins Of Hunter-Harvested Waterfowl In Arkansas And Louisiana, Shannon C. Stemaly
LSU Master's Theses
Understanding variability in breeding origins of harvested waterfowl is important for effective population management and regional conservation. Band-recovery data are often used to estimate harvest derivation and inform resource allocation for cross-seasonal conservation. However, uneven spatial and temporal banding effort across species' breeding ranges may result in an incomplete understanding of summer origins and recruitment, particularly if portions of the breeding range are inaccessible. Analysis of stable-hydrogen isotope ratios in duck feathers (δ2Hf) provides an alternative method for identifying source origins of unmarked populations since environmental deuterium values follow a predictable latitudinal gradient across North …

Food Waste (FW) in urban households remains a serious issue as it contributes to economic losses, reduced dietary quality, and weakened food security. This study aims to identify the dominant factors influencing food management behavior, FW generation, and their implications for household food security in urban settings. A cross-sectional design was applied with urban households as the study population, and samples were selected using purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) within the framework of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and Nudge Theory. The results indicate that attitude (β = 0.42; p < 0.01), subjective norm (β = 0.31; p < 0.05), and perceived behavioral control (β = 0.36; p < 0.01) significantly influence intention toward food management. Furthermore, intention strongly predicts actual food management behavior (β = 0.55; p < 0.001), which subsequently reduces FW (β = –0.47; p < 0.001). Reduced FW positively affects both food expenditure efficiency (β = 0.39; p < 0.01) and energy intake adequacy (β = 0.34; p < 0.05), two critical indicators of urban household food security. Behavioral factors play a crucial role in reducing FW and strengthening food security in urban households. Therefore, behavior-based interventions using TPB and Nudge Theory are recommended to be integrated into food education programs, household assistance, and urban food security policies to ensure effectiveness and sustainability.

Pesticide exposure remains a major occupational health problem, with the World Health Organization (WHO) reporting between 1 and 5 million cases of pesticide poisoning annually among agricultural workers. This study aimed to analyze the risk factors associated with pesticide poisoning by conducting a meta-analysis of published research. The meta-analysis was performed in four stages: data abstraction, statistical analysis using JASP Version 0.18.3, heterogeneity testing, and publication bias assessment. The random-effects model was applied to the variables of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use and length of work, as the heterogeneity test indicated significant variation between studies (p = 0.001). In contrast, …

Background: Renal failure, additionally referred to as kidney failure, is an illness in which the kidneys are unable to filter bodily waste from the circulation. This can cause an accumulation of harmful substances and the electrolytes in the human body, which can result in a variety of unpleasant side effects. Electrolytes are minerals that are essential for proper body function, including maintaining fluid balance, regulating nerve and muscle function, and supporting heart health. Imbalances in electrolyte levels can occur in individuals with kidney failure due to the kidneys' inability to regulate electrolyte levels properly. Objectives: The purpose of this study …
