Adaptive Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning For Electric Vehicle Charging Optimization Under Dynamic Traffic Conditions, Shaghayegh Rabbanian
Adaptive Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning For Electric Vehicle Charging Optimization Under Dynamic Traffic Conditions, Shaghayegh Rabbanian
LSU Master's Theses
Electric vehicle (EV) charging optimization is a critical challenge in sustainable transportation. This study focuses on three fundamental questions: (1) when is the best time to charge an EV, (2) where is the optimal charging location, and (3) how should charging be planned considering navigation and routing decisions. Our primary objective is to determine the optimal time and location for EV charging while accounting for key factors such as real-time traffic conditions, spatial distribution of charging stations, and EV-specific attributes such as state of charge (SOC), driving range, and efficiency. To develop a robust and adaptive EV charging recommendation system, …

Recovery-Oriented Dog Intervention (Rodi): An Autoethnography On How A Dog Made Us Change Our Perception Of Recovery And Flatten Our Ontologies, Knut Tore Sælør, Rose-Marie Bank
The Qualitative Report
Allegedly named after a dog show judge, our late dog Rodi was never a Recovery-Oriented Dog Intervention (RODI). Through collaborative-duo-autoethnography, we explore how our mundane co-existence with Rodi has influenced our perspectives on health struggles, recovery, ontology, and what really matters when life becomes difficult, and push comes to shove. We have shared texts describing our memories of how Rodi entered and influenced our lives. Through our collaborative writing we have discovered similarities and differences. Drawing inspiration from philosophy, posthumanism, and new materialism, we argue that our four-legged companion not only changed our everyday lives, but also our perspectives on …

Exploring Giftedness And The Gifted Learner In Education And Beyond: An Autoethnographic Study With Critical Friends, Katrina Reynen-Woodward, Penny N. Round Dr, Pearl Subban, Edwin Creely
The Qualitative Report
The concept of giftedness is complex, contested and evolving and may be thus frustratingly challenging to apply in practice. One area of emerging research is understanding the personal experiences of those who identify as gifted in order to better represent the myriad culturally diverse conceptions of giftedness that evolve over a lifetime. In this article, I employ an autoethnographic approach to explore aspects of my adult identity as an atypical learner. This journey unfolds in crafted vignettes that reveal the complexities and multi-dimensionality of my learning and are analysed using Gagné’s Differentiated Model of Giftedness and Talent (DMGT). As I …

Space-based gravitational wave detectors, such as the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) and Taiji, will observe GWs from O(108) galactic binary systems, allowing a completely unobscured view of the Milky Way structure. While previous studies have established theoretical expectations based on idealized data-analysis methods that use the true catalog of sources, we present an end-to-end analysis pipeline for inferring galactic structure parameters based on the detector output alone. We employ the GBSIEVER algorithm to extract GB signals from LISA Data Challenge data and develop a maximum likelihood approach to estimate a bulge-disk galactic model using the resolved GBs. We introduce …

Colorectal liver metastasis (CRLM) poses a significant challenge in oncology due to its high incidence and poor prognosis in unresectable cases. Current treatments, including surgical resection, systemic chemotherapy, and liver-directed therapies, often fail to effectively target hypoxic tumor regions, which are inherently more resistant to these interventions. This review examines the potential of a novel therapeutic strategy combining irreversible electroporation (IRE) ablation and Clostridium novyi-nontoxic (C. novyi-NT) bacterial therapy. IRE is a non-thermal tumor ablation technique that uses high-voltage electric pulses to create permanent nanopores in cell membranes, leading to cell death while preserving surrounding structures, and …

Demystifying The Nuances Of The Lipid Patient: A Guide For Primary Care Providers, Merle Myerson, Kyle Gillett, James O'Hara, Richard Potter, Neil Skolnik
Abington Jefferson Health Papers
Atherosclerosis, a major cause of mortality and morbidity in the United States (US), is driven by complex factors, including the cumulative burden of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and other atherogenic lipids and lipoproteins. Lipid management in US primary care aims to prevent atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) events through screening and LDL-C lowering to risk-based goals. However, lipid screening and ASCVD treatment is often inadequate, with few patients meeting LDL-C goals in clinical practice. Primary care providers have a vital role in identifying patients most at risk of ASCVD to prevent ASCVD events and improve patient outcomes. There are multiple different …

Newtonian Fractional-Dimension Gravity And The Mass-Dimension Field Equation, Gabriele U. Varieschi
Physics Faculty Works
We resume our analysis of Newtonian Fractional-Dimension Gravity (NFDG), an alternative gravitational model which does not require the Dark Matter (DM) paradigm. We add three more galaxies (NGC 6946, NGC 3198, NGC 2841) to the catalog of those studied with NFDG methods. Once again, NFDG can successfully reproduce the observed rotation curves by using a variable fractional dimension D (R), as was done for nine other galaxies previously studied with these methods. In addition, we introduce a mass-dimension field equation for our model, which is capable of deriving the fractional mass-dimension Dm (R) from first principles, as opposed to the …

Transformation With Genes To Improve Lipid Production And Barcoding To Identify Unknown Algal Species, Michelle T. Rada
Theses and Dissertations
With the rising demand for alternative fuels, algal-based biofuels are a promising, sustainable source that meets commercial interest while producing lower greenhouse gas emissions compared to fossil fuels. This thesis explored two studies, evaluating microalgae for their future potential in lipid yield for biofuel production.
The first study involved developing a cost-efficient electroporation protocol that allowed for the genetic transformation of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii using the pChlamy_4 vector, which supports future cloning of genes to enhance lipid production. Parameters affecting DNA uptake and integration into algal genomes were studied: the effect of cell density, the settings of the electroporation device, and …

Asymptotic Behavior Of Evolution Equations Via Spectral Theory Of Functions On The Half Line, Sums Of Commuting Operators And Evolution Semigroups, Minh Nguyen, Vu Trong Luong
Faculty Scholarship
In this paper we give a survey of recent developments in the spectral theory of bounded functions on the half line, and its applications to study the asymptotic behavior of solutions of evolution equations of the form , where A(t) is periodic in t. For the applications we consider spectra of the evolution semigroups associated with the evolution equations in various spectral invariant function spaces and their generators. The main results presented in the paper are concerned with the existence and uniqueness within decaying functions with specific spectral properties. These asymptotic behaviors are related to the Katznelson–Tzafriri Theorem and Massera …

Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a highly aggressive neuroendocrine tumor, known for its rapid progression and poor prognosis. It most commonly affects elderly and immunocompromised individuals, with variable clinical presentations that can make diagnosis challenging. MCC is often mistaken for other skin malignancies, such as basal or squamous cell carcinoma, or even benign skin lesions. Early diagnosis is critical to initiate appropriate treatment, typically involving surgery, radiation, and immunotherapy. This report describes a 66-year-old man diagnosed with MCC with regional lymph node involvement. Immunotherapy was started promptly; however, within a year, the disease progressed to the mediastinum, involving the esophagus …

School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics
This study investigates the flow dynamics and local scour around a Reef Cube® artificial reef deployed in Torbay, UK, using computational fluid dynamics. The flow is modelled using Reynolds-Averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) equations with a k-ω SST turbulence model. A novel hydro-morphodynamic model employing the generalized internal boundary method in HELYX (OpenFOAM-based) is used to simulate scour development. Model performance was validated against experimental data for flow fields, bed shear stress, and local scour. Flow simulations across various scenarios demonstrated that parameters such as the orientation angle and arrangement of Reef Cubes significantly influence flow patterns, bed shear stress, and habitat …

POC in LIS Summit
Glimmer gathering is a trauma-informed list making practice; an excavation and unearthing of what already exists inside of you. As library and information science professionals--we, especially Black, Indigenous, POC women-- are tasked with being the expert, exceptional, and overextended---and ultimately led to burn out. Capitalism relies on us being disconnected from our bodies so that we remain pliable to extractive, depleting, and harmful cycles. Rather than giving you a prescriptive list of "what to do" to heal and break these cycles; I will offer a few suggestions and invite us to co-create a shared body of creative knowledge. Gather for …
