Multi-Party Key Establishment For Resource-Constrained Devices, Supriyo Banerjee
Master’s Dissertations
As the number of IoT (Internet of Things) devices continues to grow, ensuring secure communication among them has become increasingly important. Traditional pairing schemes rely on centralized architectures, which are vulnerable to temporary or permanent failures due to operational malfunctions of their central hubs or gateways. To address these challenges, decentralized communication is essential. However, existing decentralized pairing schemes suffer from high pairing times and significant computational overhead. Given the diverse capabilities of IoT devices, ranging from high-performance edge devices to resource-constrained sensors, many of these schemes become impractical in real-world scenarios. Therefore, we require a lightweight pairing scheme. Our …

Templating Of Monomeric Alpha-Synuclein Results In Inflammation And Snpc Dopamine Neuron Death In A Genetic Mouse Model Of Induced Synucleinopathy, Matthew D. Byrne, Peyman Petramfar, Jae-Kyung Lee, Richard J. Smeyne
Department of Neuroscience Faculty Papers
While the etiology of most cases of Parkinson's disease (PD) are idiopathic, it has been estimated that 5-10% of PD arise from known genetic mutations. The first mutations described that leads to the development of an autosomal dominant form of PD are in the SNCA gene that codes for the protein alpha-synuclein (α-syn). α-syn is an abundant presynaptic protein that is natively disordered and whose function is still unclear. In PD, α-syn misfolds into multimeric b-pleated sheets that aggregate in neurons (Lewy Bodies/neurites) and spread throughout the neuraxis in a pattern that aligns with disease progression. Here, using IHC, HC, …

Alignment Of Perceptual Similarity Metrics With Human Perception, Abhijay Ghildyal
Alignment Of Perceptual Similarity Metrics With Human Perception, Abhijay Ghildyal
Dissertations and Theses
Perceptual similarity metrics are used for quantitatively evaluating the similarity between two images as it would appear to human perception. These metrics aim to mimic the human visual system, providing a more accurate assessment of visual similarity. Such visual assessments are considered to be more advanced than simple pixel-wise comparisons such as ℓp norm distances. Thus, a human-like assessment of visual similarity, makes the metrics valuable for applications in image compression, restoration, and enhancement, where evaluating perceptual quality is crucial. Perceptual similarity metrics have progressively become more correlated with human judgments on perceptual similarity; however, despite recent advances, the …

Background
Optimizing human performance under stressful physical and cognitive conditions is paramount during high-stakes military operations. As such, interventions to improve warfighter performance by mitigating task-induced cognitive performance deficits are necessary. While caffeine is the most widely consumed psychoactive substance in the world, common side effects (i.e. anxiousness, micro-saccades, irritability) may be detrimental to warfighter operations. Theacrine, a purine alkaloid similar in structure to caffeine but with a longer half-life, less habituation, and fewer side effects, is proposed as a caffeine-alternative to enhance cognitive resilience.
Methods
Tactically trained participants (n = 20; F = 5; M = 16; age …
