Comparing Dosimetric Outcomes Of Static Imrt And Vmat In Accelerated Partial Breast Irradiation For Medially Located, Left-Sided Tumor Beds, Rani Jamil
Masters Projects
Abstract
Introduction: Accelerated partial breast irradiation (APBI) has emerged as a targeted alternative to whole-breast irradiation for early-stage breast cancer, particularly for patients with medially located, left-sided tumors. Static intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) offer advanced dose conformity, yet no direct comparisons between static IMRT and VMAT have been conducted specifically for medially located, left-sided APBI, a uniquely challenging anatomical subgroup. This study evaluates dosimetric differences between static IMRT and VMAT plans to determine which modality provides superior target coverage and organ-at-risk (OAR) sparing in left-sided APBI.
Methods: Ten patients with medially located left-sided breast …

Bucklew and Wise (1982) showed that the quantization dimension of an absolutely continuous probability measure on a given Euclidean space is constant and equals the Euclidean dimension of the space, and the quantization coefficient exists as a finite positive number. By giving different examples, in this paper, we have shown that the quantization coefficients for absolutely continuous probability measures defined on the same Euclidean space can be different. We have taken uniform distribution as a prototype of an absolutely continuous probability measure. In addition, we have also calculated the conditional optimal sets of n-points and the nth conditional quantization errors …

Introduction: SARS-CoV-2 was declared a pandemic in March 2020. Studies have characterized some of the negative impact of the pandemic on public health workers (PHW), but few have explored the strength and coping strategies used. Our study documents the experiences of PHW in Iowa during the pandemic. Methods: We used an innovative mixed methods data collection tool, SenseMaker® to gather stories from PHW in Iowa between March and July 2022. Participants provided additional data about their story via structured follow-up questions. We conducted descriptive analyses of the quantitative questions. A qualitative thematic and sentiment analysis was applied to all …

We tested if hyperoxic conditions can reduce the proportion of active myofibroblasts, which are assumed to be a major driver of head and neck radiation-induced fibrosis, as measured by expression levels of pro-fibrotic genes. Radiated, non-cancerous soft tissue from the head and neck and skin/soft tissue from non-radiated flap donor site were collected from each patient. Myofibroblast density was quantified using immunofluorescence staining with α-SMA and DAPI and visualisation under confocal microscopy and compared between baseline non-radiated and radiated tissue from the same patient. From each tissue specimen, fibroblast cell lines were cultured and exposed to either normoxic, hypoxic, or …

The Microtubule-Severing Enzyme Spastin Regulates Spindle Dynamics To Promote Chromosome Segregation In Trypanosoma Brucei, Thiago Souza Onofre, Qing Zhou, Ziyin Li
Faculty, Staff and Student Publications
Microtubule-severing enzymes play essential roles in diverse cellular processes, including mitosis and cytokinesis, by modulating microtubule dynamics. In the early branching Trypanosoma brucei, microtubule-severing enzymes are involved in cytokinesis and flagellum length control, but none of them have been found to regulate mitosis. Here we report the characterization of the microtubule-severing enzyme spastin in the procyclic form of T. brucei. We demonstrate that spastin severs microtubule in vitro and overexpression of spastin disrupts spindle microtubules in vivo in trypanosomes, leading to defective chromosome segregation. Knockdown of spastin impairs spindle integrity and disrupts chromosome alignment and segregation. We further show that …

The commercial launch of ChatGPT in November 2022 and the fast development of large language models have catapulted the regulation of artificial intelligence to the forefront of policy debates. A vast body of scholarship, white papers, and other policy analyses followed, outlining ideal regulatory regimes for AI. The European Union and other jurisdictions have moved forward by regulating AI and LLMs. One overlooked area is the political economy of these regulatory initiatives—or how countries and companies can behave strategically and use different regulatory levers to protect their interests in the international competition on how to regulate AI.

Story Forge: A Card-Based Framework For Ai-Assisted Interactive Storytelling, Yaojiong Yu, Gianni Corino, Mike Phillips
School of Art, Design and Architecture
The application of artificial intelligence has significantly advanced interactive storytelling. However, current research has predominantly concentrated on the content generation capabilities of AI, primarily following a one-way ‘input-direct generation’ model. This has led to limited practicality in AI story writing, mainly due to the absence of investigations into user-driven creative processes. Consequently, users often perceive AI-generated suggestions as unhelpful and unsatisfactory. This study introduces a novel creative tool named Story Forge, which incorporates a card-based interactive narrative approach. By utilizing interactive story element cards, the tool facilitates the integration of narrative components with artificial intelligence-generated content to establish an interactive …

Rishon Le-ẒIyyon, Winepress Park: Geomorphology And Sedimentology, Joel Roskin, Yotam Asscher
Qadum: Journal of Excavation Reports from Israel
An extensive brown sandy double-unit sediment, draping large parts of the archaeological remains at the Winepress Park in Rishon Le-Ẓiyyon, is suggested to be associated with the previously reported, undated ʻEn Ha-Qore clay. Based on relative age port-OSL profiling, the depositional mechanism of this unit and the overlying sand is suggested to be related to late Holocene, dune-dammed winter ponds. These aeolian-fluvial dune-damming processes may have been partly triggered by intensive Byzantine human activity that may have led to sand mobilization.
Humanization Strategy Of The Public Urban Space In Cairo, Rania Badawy Shokry
Humanization Strategy Of The Public Urban Space In Cairo, Rania Badawy Shokry
Mansoura Engineering Journal
An accurate scientific definition of the term “humanization of cities” has not yet crystallized, which refers the term to the word from which it is derived. She is "human". Obviously, anything contrary to it is inhuman; starting from wild nature or a life entirely dependent on vehicles. If a person cannot dispense with vehicles when carrying out his daily activities, then here we know that the standard of humanization in a place is low. However, if the planning of a city or neighborhood takes into account the needs of the population and the human standard, then the city may reach …

The food sector must contend with issues such as pathogen resistance to some of the available chemical agents, environmental pollution, and climate change to provide healthy food for livestock and people. The application of atmospheric pressure plasma jets (APPJs) is one potential solution for such problems. Plasma is appropriate for effective surface decontamination regarding food products and seeds, surface decontamination, and achieving improved agricultural production yields. The impact of plasma-activated water (PAW) produced by plasma jet discharge (PJD) system on in vitro-cultivated wheat seeds is examined in this work. For this aim, a plasma jet system was constructed with a …

Succinyl-CoA ligase deficiency is a rare autosomal recessive enzymatic deficiency that causes an energy-deficient state with mitochondrial depletion syndrome. It is often fatal. We present a case of novel variants in SUCLG1 leading to fatal infantile lactic acidosis. Two variants of uncertain significance in trans were identified in SUCLG1: c.901G>A p.(Gly301Arg) paternally inherited and c.532-6T>A maternally inherited. These variants resulted in severely reduced succinyl-CoA ligase activity. This patient exhibited the classical metabolic profile of succinyl-Co-A ligase deficiency and massive elevation of glutamine. Elevated glutamine, in the absence of hyperammonemia, should lead providers to consider succinyl-CoA ligase deficiency in …

Ovotesticular (OT) disorders of sex development (DSDs) are marked by the simultaneous presence of ovarian and testicular tissues within the gonads. The appearance of external genitalia does not necessarily correlate with gonadal histology. Variants in the NR5A1 gene can result in SRY-negative DSD. In this report, we present a case involving a variant in the NR5A1 gene. A 3-year-old phenotypic male presenting with micropenis, penile hypospadias, and a bifid scrotum was identified to have a c.274C > T, p.Arg92Trp variant in the NR5A1 gene, along with a 46, XX karyotype. Genetic factors such as variants in the NR5A1 gene, independent of …

Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) is a transmembrane glycoprotein that exhibits tyrosine kinase signaling activity, playing a pivotal role in various cellular processes. Overexpression or overactivity of EGFR is significantly associated with inflammatory and malignant diseases, particularly lung cancer. Conversely, germline loss-of-function mutations in EGFR have been distinctly linked to a rare condition known as neonatal nephrocutaneous syndrome. We report a case of a preterm female neonate, born to consanguineous parents and from a pregnancy that was complicated by polyhydramnios. From birth, she displayed distinctive clinical features, including fragile skin and widespread erythema, sparse scalp hair, bilateral ankyloblepharon, thick eyebrows, …

Henderson University School and FAU High School, the research tracks changes in student understanding and skepticism of AI following a World History unit. Pre- and post-instruction surveys revealed a decline in comfort with AI as students became more aware of its ethical concerns, including plagiarism, bias, and misinformation. The findings suggest integrating AI ethics into the middle school curriculum to foster responsible AI usage among students.

We aim to expand units coordination and construction assessment by examining the significance of embodiment and teacher noticing, especially in relation to recent developments in equitable mathematics teacher noticing research. We outline our approach as mathematics teacher educators with a wide range of expertise, wherein we investigated how prospective elementary mathematics teachers (PTs) notice students' units construction and coordination through embodied actions and the impact of incorporating a focus on embodiment in assessment. We also address how expanding the understanding of units coordination and construction assessment through embodied noticings can create more equitable classroom spaces. The study emphasizes the need …

Late-onset sepsis (LOS; sepsis occurring after the first 72 hours of life) increases the morbidity and mortality of premature neonates, especially those with very-low-birth weight (≤1500g). In LOS, Enterobacter cloacae has been rarely described as a cause of secondary brain abscesses. Our case report summarizes important aspects of cerebral abscesses due to an E. cloacae sepsis in a preterm neonate. Our patient received surgical abscess drainage and rational antibiotic treatment employing prolonged meropenem infusions plus fosfomycin and subsequent treatment with oral trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole. Furthermore, we present a review of the current literature from 2009-2022, comparing cases similar to our case.
