An Electrochemiluminescence-Based Arsenic (Iii) Sensor Using Luminol On Screen-Printed Gold Electrodes, Harmesa Harmesa, Isnaini Rahmawati, Andrea Fiorani, Yasuaki Einaga, Eny Kusrini, A’An Johan Wahyudi, Asep Saefumillah, Tribidasari A Ivandini

Journal of Electrochemistry

Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) of luminol has been studied on a screen-printed gold electrode for a simple and sensitive detection of arsenic ions (As(III)). Cyclic voltammetry (CV) was applied as the proposed technique to study luminol’s electrochemical behavior and to evaluate the arsenic’s effect in the ECL system, while hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) served as a co-reactant to enhance luminol’s light emission under alkaline conditions. To achieve optimal electrode performance, key parameters including pH, scan rate, and the concentrations of H2O2 and luminol were carefully optimized. The presence of As(III) induced a quenching effect on the …

Dsmc: A Statistical Mechanics Perspective, Alejandro Garcia Feb 2026

Dsmc: A Statistical Mechanics Perspective, Alejandro Garcia

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

This paper presents a perspective in which Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) is viewed not in its traditional role as an algorithm for solving the Boltzmann equation but as a numerical method for statistical mechanics. First, analytical techniques such as the collision virial and Green-Kubo relations, commonly used in molecular dynamics, are used to study the numerical properties of the DSMC algorithm. The stochastic aspect of DSMC, which is often viewed as unwanted numerical noise, is shown to be a useful feature for problems in statistical physics, such as Brownian motion and thermodynamic fluctuations. Finally, it is argued that fundamental …

Balancing Carbon Emissions In Façade Of Residential Buildings Through Bim-Lca: A Comparative Analysis Of Insulation Materials, Mehran Alipour Feb 2026

Balancing Carbon Emissions In Façade Of Residential Buildings Through Bim-Lca: A Comparative Analysis Of Insulation Materials, Mehran Alipour

Journal of Sustainable Construction Materials and Technologies

Thermal insulation materials play a significant role in balancing buildings' total carbon emissions. Balancing involves applying the optimized amount of insulation materials to avoid excessive emissions in either the operational or embodied phases. Due to the wide range of insulation materials and variations of their specifications, it is vital to analyse them individually. The focus of this study is to optimize the amount of insulation materials in the facades of Residential Buildings (RB) to balance the amount of Operational Carbon Emissions (OCE) and Embodied Carbon Emissions (ECE) by applying the Building Information Modelling-Life Cycle Assessment (BIM-LCA) integration method. The Life …

The Labor Of Reading: A Personal And Pedagogical Exploration, Alisha Goldblatt Feb 2026

The Labor Of Reading: A Personal And Pedagogical Exploration, Alisha Goldblatt

Wellspring: A Practitioner-Oriented Journal of Literacy and Language Education

While teachers bemoan the decrease in students’ ability to sustain interest in reading, and phones dominate over plain text, I have been wrestling with two questions that predate the current ubiquity of screentime: Why are some people more capable of reading fluently and with passion than others? Why can’t every person easily “lose” themselves in a text? As an English teacher and avid reader, I investigate the mechanisms of the act of reading (mainly fiction and creative nonfiction), the well-intentioned efforts of educators, and the question of whether reading itself is absolutely necessary to produce an informed, empathetic, and educated …

Enhancing Science Accessibility And Engagement For Students With Visual Impairments: A Randomized Trial Of The Talking Labquest In Nigerian Schools, Sariat A. Adelakun Dr

Journal of Science Education for Students with Disabilities

Students with Blindness in Nigeria are often erroneously perceived as incapable of engaging with science at the basic education level, contributing to their low enrolment in science-related careers. Although various techniques and materials have been proposed to support students with blindness in science, many lack empirical validation. This study investigated one such approach by examining the impact of the Talking LabQuest on the interest of Students with blindness in science subjects.

A randomized controlled trial was conducted in inclusive junior secondary schools in Nigeria, involving 20 classrooms over an 18-week period. Twelve classrooms were randomly assigned to the intervention group, …

Journal of Public Health in the Deep South

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and other sexual and gender minority (LGBTQ+) adolescents in the U.S. South experience disproportionately high rates of bullying, discrimination, depression, and suicidality. Supportive and inclusive school climates are identified as key protective factors that can mitigate these risks and function as primary prevention against violence. This systematic narrative review synthesizes peer-reviewed research and high-quality survey reports published between 2015 and 2024 that assess school climate, mental health, and violence-related outcomes among LGBTQ+ youth with representation from Southern states, including Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana. Following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, 1,167 records …

Violence And Abuse Against Adult Stroke Survivors In The Deep South: Epidemiology, Risk, And Public Health Responses, Dawn S. Mclendon, Shaneka S. Patterson, Shreyas Gangadhara

Journal of Public Health in the Deep South

Adults living with neurologic disability, particularly stroke survivors, face disproportionately high rates of violence and abuse. This vulnerability is amplified in the Deep South due to elevated stroke burden, structural disadvantage, and persistent community-level disparities in both violence and health care access. We conducted a narrative review of peer-reviewed literature indexed in PubMed, along with relevant surveillance and policy reports, to synthesize current evidence on the burden, patterns, risk factors, and prevention opportunities related to violence among adult stroke survivors. The review focused on elder mistreatment, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, caregiver abuse and neglect, and financial exploitation. Findings indicate …
