Noise-Perturbed Federated Learning For Synthetic Wearable Health Monitoring: A Reproducible Multi-Seed Evaluation, Billel Essaid

Mesopotamian Journal of Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare

Federated learning (FL) keeps wearable records local, but shared updates can still disclose participant information. This study evaluates an auditable noise-perturbed FL pipeline for synthetic wearable risk monitoring and examines how client-side clipping, central Gaussian perturbation, participant-held-out validation, and two empirical privacy attacks behave across repeated cohorts. Twelve independently generated cohorts (24 participants; 5,760 half-hour windows each) were analyzed with matched-exposure centralized logistic regression, FedAvg, clipped FedAvg, and clipped-plus-noise FedAvg using 16/4/4 participant train/validation/test splits. Uncertainty was estimated with a two-stage hierarchical bootstrap that preserves each seed's validation-selected threshold. The clipped-plus-noise model achieved mean AUROC 0.903 (95% CI 0.867–0.913), AUPRC …

China Maritime Report #59: Be Focused, Be Humble, Be Happy: Career Progression, Organization, And Training Of Plan Submariners, Phil Yu, Benjamin Rosen

CMSI China Maritime Reports

Main Findings

Led by the political commissar with the commanding officer serving as deputy, party committees are responsible for major decision-making, maintaining party control, training, and general leadership aboard People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) submarines. While Chinese sources extoll this collective leadership model, it is unclear how this command structure influences decision-making efficacy in practice.

PLAN political officers play a critical role in the leadership and decision making on PLAN submarines, but reportedly lack understanding of submarine operations. Despite attempts to improve the operational competency of political officers, this likely remains a problem for the PLAN submarine force.

The diverse …

Transforming The Panama Canal From Transportation Infrastructure Into A Tourist Destination: Opportunities, Challenges, And Sustainability Implications, Ali Kheleel Ibrahim, Muthana Faaeq Almasoodi

AUIQ Humanities and Social Sciences

This research examines the transformation of the Panama Canal from functional transportation infrastructure into a significant tourist destination while maintaining operational integrity. Employing descriptive and analytical methodologies, the study analyses visitor statistics, economic impacts, infrastructure investments, and sustainability challenges across recent years. Findings reveal substantial growth in visitor numbers and demonstrate that canal tourism consistently contributes to a significant proportion of national tourism revenues. The Panama Canal's higher visitor figures relative to the Suez Canal are consistent with, though not causally attributable to, differences in institutional approaches to tourism development, as establishing causality would require controlled comparative data unavailable within …

Optimizing Job Demands And Resources To Enhance Employee Engagement And Organizational Performance, Ali Shakir Zaidan, Hadeel Kadem Saeed, Arash Arianpoor, Siraj Razooqi Abbas Oct 2026

Optimizing Job Demands And Resources To Enhance Employee Engagement And Organizational Performance, Ali Shakir Zaidan, Hadeel Kadem Saeed, Arash Arianpoor, Siraj Razooqi Abbas

AUIQ Humanities and Social Sciences

This study examines how Job Demands, resources, satisfaction, work engagement, and firm performance are interrelated using the job demands–resources (JD-R) model. According to this model, job demands are important for organizations, but if they are not balanced by sufficient job resources, they can cause strain and lower satisfaction. By contrast, job resources act as critical enablers, mitigating the adverse effects of demands, promoting job satisfaction, and enhancing employee engagement. By conceptualizing job satisfaction as a mediating variable, the proposed model clarifies how the interplay between demand and resources leads to increased work engagement, which contributes to improved firm performance. This …

An Agentic Ai Decision-Support Framework For Interpretable Crowd Status Monitoring Via Yolov5, Hasanain Hazim Azeez, Rafea Mohammed Ibrahim, Esraa H. Yahyaa, Thura Jamal, Nasri Sulaiman Oct 2026

An Agentic Ai Decision-Support Framework For Interpretable Crowd Status Monitoring Via Yolov5, Hasanain Hazim Azeez, Rafea Mohammed Ibrahim, Esraa H. Yahyaa, Thura Jamal, Nasri Sulaiman

AUIQ Humanities and Social Sciences

For public safety in crowded public places, less human detection is insufficient without interpretability and actionability of decision assistances. Although deep learning–based video surveillance systems have achieved accurate detection recently, the majority are restricted to passive perception and do not convert visual products into executive decisions for crowd status. This study presents an agentic AI-based decision support framework for interpretable real-time crowd status monitoring, to link vision-based perception and public safety decision. The proposed framework incorporates a YOLOv5-derived human detection module, an agentic state evaluation by considering persistability and a transparent rule-based decision making, which distinguishes scenes into crowd versus …

A Biased Variant Of The Ladybug Clock Problem, Jacob Vogelpohl, Russell May Oct 2026

A Biased Variant Of The Ladybug Clock Problem, Jacob Vogelpohl, Russell May

Communications on Number Theory and Combinatorial Theory

Instead of the common assumption of uniform probabilities for steps in a random walk on a graph, we generalize the steps to be biased and compute several statistics related to biased random walks on a cycle graph, more fancifully known as the ``ladybug clock problem." We obtain new explicit formulas for the distribution of probabilities for a walk to end on a particular node, the expected cover time for the cycle, and other similar statistics. We carry out these computations solely with generating functions related to the classic gambler's ruin problem.

Zero-Sum Empathy: The Supreme Court's 2025 Term Decisions On Gender Identity, Susan Etta Keller Oct 2026

Zero-Sum Empathy: The Supreme Court's 2025 Term Decisions On Gender Identity, Susan Etta Keller

ConLawNOW

This past term, the Supreme Court majority continued to follow a pattern of rendering transgender individuals essentially invisible in the cases that concern their rights. In last year’s United States v. Skrmetti, the transgender youth affected by the ban on transgender care were largely absent from the majority opinion holding that such bans discriminated on the basis of neither sex nor transgender status. This term, the majority continued a similar trend, deciding two cases on the emergency docket that ignored the lived experience of transgender individuals while significantly affecting them, and one case on the merits, West Virginia v. …

Adaptive Soft Region-Of-Interest Selection For Metrology Using Physics-Informed Machine Learning, Yoel Shimo Arieli Oct 2026

Adaptive Soft Region-Of-Interest Selection For Metrology Using Physics-Informed Machine Learning, Yoel Shimo Arieli

Defensive Publications Series

A system and method are disclosed for adaptive selection of a measurement region-of-interest (ROI) in metrology images, such as semiconductor overlay and critical dimension metrology. Instead of a binary inclusion/exclusion mask, a soft ROI is used: a pixel-wise weight map assigning each pixel a continuous value representing its reliability and informational contribution, so that pixels dominated by edge diffraction, stray light or neighboring-structure interference are down-weighted rather than discarded. The weight map is produced by a machine-learning model, in one embodiment a Physics-Informed Neural Network trained with a composite objective comprising a measurement accuracy term based on reference metrology data …
