Form-Meaning Mappings Of Cyclic Gestures, Wilho Macneil
Form-Meaning Mappings Of Cyclic Gestures, Wilho Macneil
Linguistics ETDs
Hirrel (2018) examines form-meaning mappings between speech and co-articulated cyclic gestures, identifying meanings associated with such gestures. To test replicability, this thesis analyzes two functional-semantic domains: modification (adverbs, quantifiers) and morphosyntactic constructions (complex sentences, English Progressive) and their relationship to cyclic gestures. About 12 hours of video was coded in ELAN for cyclic gestures (n=586) and analyzed textually for speech instances (n=1919) of target constructions. Contrary to Hirrel’s predictions, cyclic gestures were not more commonly co-articulated with adverbs than quantifiers and were also not more commonly co-articulated with complex sentences than the English Progressive Construction. Neither pattern reached statistical significance …

Deficiencies In The Judicial Classification Of Cryptocurrencies Indicating The Need For Legislative Alternatives, Ethan Johnson
Deficiencies In The Judicial Classification Of Cryptocurrencies Indicating The Need For Legislative Alternatives, Ethan Johnson
Journal of Legislation
The cryptocurrency industry is desperate for regulatory clarification, which would stabilize and secure cryptocurrency and, ultimately, promote increased investment. How the United States ultimately chooses to pursue cryptocurrency regulation has massive implications for future investment and the development of this technology. Disagreement over how to classify cryptocurrency under the investment contract test created in SEC v. Howey, including the recent Second Circuit split, has led to calls for resolving legislation. Cryptocurrency legislation has recently been passed by the European Union, and there are currently proposals for legislation before Congress in the United States.

The Great War (Taylor's Version): Examining The New Era Of Recording Artists & Master Recording Ownership, Victoria B. Villanueva
Journal of Legislation
In 2019, Taylor Swift took to social media to voice her unease with the recent sale of her entire master recording catalogue to Ithaca Holdings, a sale that allegedly occurred without her explicit permission. Following a series of negotiations, holdouts, and ultimate deadlock, Swift made the critical and costly decision to re-record and re-release each of those six albums under her sole ownership in an effort to reclaim them as her own work—re-recordings publicly denoted by “Taylor’s Version”. This highly-publicized feud brought to the public’s attention a decades-long conflict between the recording artist and the recording company, one that has …

Multi-Valued Variational Inequalities For Variable Exponent Double Phase Problems: Comparison And Extremality Results, Siegfried Carl, Vy Khoi Le, Patrick Winkert
Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Research & Creative Works
We prove existence and comparison results for multi-valued variational inequalities in a bounded domain Ω of the form (Formula presented.) where A:W1,H(Ω)→W1,H(Ω)∗ given by (Formula presented.) for u∈W1,H(Ω), is the double phase operator with variable exponents and W1,H(Ω) is the associated Musielak–Orlicz Sobolev space. First, an existence result is proved under some weak coercivity condition. Our main focus aims at the treatment of the problem under consideration when coercivity fails. To this end we establish the method of sub–super-solution for the multi-valued variational inequality in the space W1, H(Ω) based on appropriately defined sub- and super-solutions, which yields the existence …

Material Vulnerabilities In Aviation: A Comparative Study Of Hiduminium Rr58 In The Concorde, Siddhant Singh, Kuldeep Agarwal
Automotive and Manufacturing Engineering Technology Department Publications
The catastrophic crash of Air France Flight 4590 in the year 2000 disclosed huge flaws in the material used to manufacture the Concorde fuel tanks, Hiduminium RR58 (Aluminum 2618A). Although this alloy was selected due to its resistance to high-temperature, this research examines its thermal and mechanical vulnerabilities, especially in relation to Aluminum 7075-T3, a large-scale application of which in the Boeing 747 was widespread. By comparing tensile strength, thermal conductivity, fatigue life, and creep life, this research determines how Hiduminium RR58's over-aging susceptibility, thermal cycling degradation, and rupture due to impact were contributory causes to the disaster. The study …

Introduction
Falls account for the most injury-related deaths in older adults and cost 50 billion dollars annually (1,2). The Timed up and Go(TUG) test is commonly used by PTs to identify individuals scoring >13.5 seconds as at risk for falling (3). Using this cutoff may justify physical therapy and be used as an assessment of improved function. The TUG is favored due to its inclusion of assistive device (AD) use. However, data suggest it may not be accurate in classifying those using ADs (4,5).
Objective
The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of AD use on TUG …

Purpose/Hypothesis:
Reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (RTSA) has become an efficacious surgical procedure for people with massive rotator cuff tears and concurrent glenohumeral osteoarthritis. While shoulder biomechanics and functional outcomes after a RTSA have been studied extensively, there is limited research on the relationship between shoulder girdle osteokinematics and functional outcomes. The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between shoulder girdle osteokinematics and functional outcomes, using the Penn Shoulder Score (PSS), in patients who underwent RTSA. It is hypothesized that there would be a significant correlation between osteokinematic variables and the PSS. Participants: 20 participants (10 male) who …

Introduction
- Cerebral palsy (CP) affects mobility and strength due to spasticity, incoordination, and weakness,1 making traditional high-load training challenging.
- Blood flow restriction (BFR) training enables increased work and fatigue at a lower load, resulting in adaptations in muscle composition similar to those achieved with high-load training.2
- Despite evidence supporting BFR use in neurological conditions3, limited information exists on how it will benefit young adults with ambulatory CP.4,5
- Therefore, this study investigated the feasibility of BFR compared to progressive resistance training (PRT) in young adults with ambulatory cerebral palsy (CP).
Methods
- Two individuals with spastic CP, …

Impact Of Trauma On Learning, Megan Rinerson
All Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Trauma has large and often long-lasting effects on individuals, particularly in how it influences learning in educational settings. When students experience trauma—whether from abuse, neglect, violence, or loss—it can significantly disrupt their ability to focus, process information, and regulate emotions, all of which are critical for academic success. This thesis explores the profound impact of trauma on students’ cognitive development and academic performance, emphasizing the neurological basis of trauma and its interference with the brain's learning pathways. Scientific research has shown that traumatic experiences can alter the structure and function of the brain, particularly in areas responsible for memory, attention, …

The Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide is a vital tool for addressing genocide. As mechanisms of global governance fail to stop atrocity, the International Court of Justice has become a legal and political arena for the enforcement of the Genocide Convention. This study asks the question of how the use of the Genocide Convention at the International Court of Justice changed over time? In the four cases that come before the Court, this paper identifies four key developments: a shift toward viewing genocide as a continuum; South Africa v. Israel strengthened the Court’s jurisdiction; …

Off The Clock But Still At Work: Investigating The Relationship Between Workplace Incivility And Behavioral Disengagement, Doug Brown
Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects
This thesis investigated the relationship between workplace incivility and behavioral disengagement, using emotional appraisal as a mediating factor. Data was collected through a survey method via Prolific. Using the transactional model of stress, I hypothesized that experienced incivility will be positively associated with behavioral disengagement as a coping mechanism. Additionally, I hypothesized that emotional appraisal would mediate the relationship between experienced workplace incivility and behavioral disengagement. By using a mediation model to test these hypotheses I aim to increase the understanding of workplace incivility and its negative impacts on individuals and the workplace as a whole. Results of the study …

Coral reefs are some of the most biodiverse ecosystems on the planet (Knowlton el al., 2010). As they are home to millions of aquatic species, it is important for humanity to take diligent care of them both for their intrinsic and extrinsic qualities (Knowlton, 2001). Corals thrive by utilizing symbiotic algae cells called zooxanthellae to aid in obtaining energy (G. D., 2003). Living in the coral's polyps, the zooxanthellae are offered extra protection from predators (Wooldridge, 2010). This paper discusses the relationship between the zooxanthellae and the corals as well as the potential power dynamics between the two organisms. There …
Continuous Space Theory And The Viability Of An Epistemic Response To The Sorites, Grace Poortenga
Continuous Space Theory And The Viability Of An Epistemic Response To The Sorites, Grace Poortenga
Bouwsma Paper Contest
If space-time is not discrete then epistemicism implies infinitely indeterministic cut-offs. In this paper, I will explore what sharp cut-offs in a Sorites series are and what they imply, and I will demonstrate that to go in for sharp cut-offs one should go in for discrete space. One might hold epistemicism to be true even while suggesting that space is continuous rather than discrete: there is a cut-off, and it is infinitely indeterminate. This is a possible reply, but the trouble in it is that one of the strong desires in accepting epistemicism as the reply to the Sorites is …
