What’S In A Name?: Transgender People’S Affirming And Invalidating Experiences With Preferred Names, Narciso Quildey-Rodriguez
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Transgender and nonbinary (TNB) people’s gender identity differs from the sex they were assigned at birth. Approximately 1.6 million people identify as TNB in the US. Affirmation, the process of acknowledging a person’s gender identity, plays a significant role in the mental health and well-being of TNB people by reducing feelings of isolation, dysphoria, and anxiety. Invalidation, which occurs when a person’s gender identity is denied, can have significant adverse effects on the mental and emotional well-being of TNB people. This presentation explores TNB people's affirmative and invalidating experiences related to using preferred names and pronouns. Twenty semi-structured interviews with …
Volume-Based Feeding Protocol In Metropolitan Medical Icu, Abraham J. Wang
Volume-Based Feeding Protocol In Metropolitan Medical Icu, Abraham J. Wang
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Optimal nutritional support is a fundamental aspect of the recovery process for critically ill patients (Compher et al., 2022). It plays a crucial role in mitigating the catabolic effects of severe illness and trauma (Bharal et al., 2019). In the intensive care unit (ICU), enteral feeding (EF) is the preferred nutrition delivery method (Holyk et al., 2020). However, traditional EF protocols such as Rate-Based Feeding (RBF) fail to meet patients’ nutritional requirements. RBF protocol provides only 60% of the prescribed daily caloric intake (Wang et al., 2023). An evaluation of our Medical ICU (MICU) has revealed that the EF was …

Detecting Bad Actors In Social Media Research Recruitment: Ai And Bots, Oh My!, Sarah E. Patel, Steven R. Chesnut
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Purpose: Researchers can use social media to recruit diverse populations for research studies with targeted posts in groups and across platforms with marketing. Sadly, Meta estimates 3% of the active 3.07 billion Facebook accounts are fake. Fake accounts that use bots and artificial intelligence (AI) threaten the integrity of research findings. Unfortunately, no guidelines exist to help researchers identify bad actors, or individuals not engaging with a survey in good faith via bots or AI assistance. We discuss our strategies to detect and remove bad actors.
Methods: We recruited participants from a Facebook pelvic congestion syndrome support group …

Mid-Western Educational Researcher
Educators report feeling overwhelmed by shifts in their working conditions and responsibilities since the pandemic, leading to significant levels of burnout and reduced professional satisfaction. Beyond traditional instructional roles, teachers are increasingly expected to serve as first responders to students’ wellness needs, manage complex behavioral issues, and provide ongoing emotional support. While teachers’ instructional practices, ability to manage classroom dynamics, and engagement in leadership roles evolve over time, findings here show that their well-being and approach to supporting students’ wellness needs shift across different career phases as well. This study examines, via a mixed methods approach, how K-12, full-time, U.S. …
