Background: Excess gestational weight gain (GWG) occurs in up to 70% of women who birth. Excess GWG increases the risk of adverse outcomes in both mother and baby including gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia, postpartum weight retention, large for gestational age babies, and adiposity among children. Antenatal lifestyle interventions can limit excess GWG. However, successful translation of interventions into routine antenatal care are seldom, and interventions involving midwives are uncommon. Following a successful feasibility study, the main aims of this study are to determine if the Delivering Optimal weighT gain advice in pregnancy (DOT) intervention is acceptable to midwives, acceptable and accessible …

Background: The Raine Study, one of the world’s longest-running multigenerational cohort studies, has consistently engaged participants in shaping specific research projects within the Raine Study. While participant involvement has been integral to study operations, there has not previously been an opportunity for participants to actively help shape the overall research agenda. The Participant Priority Setting Project (the Project) was developed to address this gap, providing a structured process to establish participant-led research priorities that will guide future study directions. Methods: The Project utilised a modified version of the James Lind Alliance (JLA) Priority Setting Partnerships (PSP) Framework to engage Generation …

Pharmaceutical and personal care product (PPCP)-contaminated wastewater, particularly with triclosan (TCS), poses a significant environmental concern due to TCS persistence, ecotoxicity, and endocrine-disrupting effects, necessitating the development of efficient and sustainable remediation technologies. In this study, the degradation of TCS using hydrodynamic cavitation coupled with air injection (aerated HC process) is investigated as a green and chemical-free treatment method for wastewater treatment. Initially, the optimum operating conditions of the standalone HC process were determined by varying the inlet pressure and flow rate, which were found to be 2.34 bar and 0.45 L/s, respectively, corresponding to the highest turbulence frequency level …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026
Aboriginal women are one of the fastest-growing subgroups among the Australian incarcerated population. Their incarceration affects increasing numbers of children, families, and communities. Few studies have examined the role of fathers when mothers are incarcerated. Using 49 in-depth interviews with Aboriginal mothers in Western Australian prisons, we explore the types of child and family support fathers provide based on the incarcerated mother’s perspective. Four themes were identified: (1) diverse support and involvement by fathers; (2) absence of father’s support due to death or incarceration; (3) parental cooperation and communication; and (4) supports and challenges to maintaining family networks. Overall, fathers …

Genetic Variations In Extracellular Matrix Degradation Pathways Linking To Major Depressive Disorder: Evidence From A Large-Scale Genetic Association Study, Halliru Zailani, Daniel Tzu-Li Chen, Sheng-Che Lin, Jia-Hau Lee, Mei-Ling Li, Jane Pei-Chen Chang, Kuan-Pin Su
BioMedicine
Dysregulation of extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation pathways has been increasingly implicated in major depressive disorder (MDD), yet its genetic basis remains unclear. This study investigated the relationship between ECM-related genetic polymorphisms and MDD susceptibility. In a case-control study, we analyzed 317 MDD patients and 1,268 sexmatched controls from the Taiwan Biobank (TWB). Genomic DNA was analyzed using the Affymetrix TWB array, targeting single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in 140 ECM degradation genes (Reactome database). Full-model association tests identified significant SNPs, validated with 5,000 max(T) permutations and adjusted via logistic regression for age, body mass index, education level, and marital status. We …

BioMedicine
Melatonin, a hormone produced by the pineal gland, is known for regulating circadian rhythms and has emerging therapeutic potential in psychiatric disorders. This systematic review examines evidence from clinical and preclinical studies to assess melatonin’s efficacy in the following conditions: depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. Beyond its role in circadian regulation, melatonin exhibits antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory properties, which intersect with nutrition, lifestyle medicine, and psychoneuroimmunology (PNI).
The review finds that melatonin improves sleep quality, restores circadian balance, and modulates stress-related neuroimmune pathways. It also supports neuroplasticity and reduces oxidative stress, contributing to resilience against psychosocial and environmental stressors. …

Turning Toward Being: The Journal of Ontological Inquiry in Education
An unconventional and collaboratively written text begun as a Book Review that expands into a hybrid Book Review-Notes From The Field-Article as we sought to do justice to our encounter with three provocative books that elicit ontological inquiry inside and outside our classrooms, inquiry that challenges us, confuses us, confronts us to unlearn and loosen the grip of ontological constraints we were thrown into within modernity and our embeddedness within the everyday life. Our reading of these books elicits much needed hope for the precarious times we are living through with this earth.

Ontological Inquiry: A Foundation For Intercultural Communication Competence For Peace, Maria Stergiou
Turning Toward Being: The Journal of Ontological Inquiry in Education
Beyond what we have discovered through research and what we claim to know about learning and teaching intercultural global competencies, I advocate for the inclusion of a pedagogy of ontological inquiry. Informed by my work as the International Cooperation Advisor for Higher Education at the Swiss Agency for Exchange and Cooperation, as well as my lived experience with ontological inquiry for more than 25 years, here I illuminate the access an ontological pedagogy provides to the realization of interculturalcommunication competencies as a foundation for peace.

Book Review Of Go West! A Memoir For My Sons: Our Family Journey And Khmer Rouge Life Experiences, Lalinne Suon Bell
Journal of Southeast Asian American Education and Advancement
I came to Go West! A Memoir for My Sons not as a detached reader but as someone who holds Cambodia within me. Like Sideth D. Niev, I am a survivor of the Khmer Rouge, a child who grew up in exile and a mother now raising children in Minnesota, the same state where Niev rebuilt his life. Reading his memoir is like walking through a mirror: his words reflecting the past my family endured, my life reflecting the future his sons now inhabit. Both of us live in the long aftermath of genocide, where silence is both a burden …

Book Review Of Coloring And Learning About Cambodia In The Arts: Learning About Cambodia In The Arts, Lalinne Suon Bell
Journal of Southeast Asian American Education and Advancement
I have long been witness to the silence that trauma leaves behind. I understand how the body remembers what the tongue cannot say. The aftermath of genocide and displacement leaves not only human tragedy but also artistic ones: a fracture in how we imagine, how we create, how we see. For those of us shaped by the Cambodian diaspora, what we can’t express in words lives through art: through lines and colors. Cambodian classical dance shows this clearly: each gesture tells a story without words and that art has always been our language.

Corporate governance has emerged as an important issue both globally and locally, distinguishing local and international corporations, especially in the aftermath of major financial crises. Governance regulations worldwide have focused on limiting the misuse of administrative authority that goes against the interests of the company and its shareholders. These regulations aim to activate the actual performance of company boards of directors, establish the presence of internal controls, ensure the implementation of strategies, and clarify the roles and powers ofthe board of directors, executive management, shareholders, and stakeholders. Additionally, they emphasize the significance of transparency and disclosure. Corporate governance can be …

Assessing Knowledge, Attitudes, And Consumption Of Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine Among Filipinos Post Covid-19 Pandemic, Jane Yugioksing
Social Transformations Journal of the Global South
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in the Philippines has existed as early as the first wave of migrants but has remained confined within a prescribed settlement in the Manila district known as Parian. Over the years, TCM has existed independently as a modality of treatment to improve one’s health, mostly catering only to the Chinese in the country. At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Philippines’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the use of the TCM capsule Lian Hua Qing Wen as part of the COVID-19 treatment option, which was highly patronized by the mainstream Philippine society at that …

Music Post-Westernism: From Tonal And Post-Tonal Hegemony To Multipolar Decolonization, Mark Jericho Y. Pacia
Social Transformations Journal of the Global South
Post-Westernism is a transformation in which the West is no longer the hegemonic center but rather projects a new era of music. This research proposes Post-Westernism as the fundamental shift after the post-tonal (contemporary) era in art (classical) music. While the post-tonal era emerged from the rebellion toward tonality, Post-Westernism calls for critiquing the Western nature of both tonality and post-tonality. Through this, Post Westernism investigates the current musical hegemony and proposes a multipolar system via the decolonization and transculturation of music and scholarship. It answers the question: How will composers innovate when innovation is institutionalized and the avant-garde is …

A Review Of The Lifelong Learning And Continuing Education System In Singapore, Brian Teck Kin Heng, Mei Zhen Ng
The Qualitative Report
The workforce development field faces profound impacts due to rapid changes in the job landscape, necessitating new skill requirements driven by technological advancements. However, there remains a gap in studying and understanding the interaction between government support, employers/union support, and the learner themselves to influence a positive outcome for employment and employability. Therefore, this study will utilise semi-structured interviews where participants will be divided into two main groups: workforce leaders, and workforce members (comprises workers, employees and job seekers). The actor-oriented approach reveals the roles of the various identified players in the employment and skill-upgrading landscape. The interviews were designed …

Ädeeja: Origem Dos Alimentos Cultivados E Práticas Alimentares Ye’Kwana, Viviane Cajusuanaima Rocha (Povo Ye’Kwana)
Tipití: Journal of the Society for the Anthropology of Lowland South America
