What Beginning Law Students Learn When Ai Gets Personal, Kristina Swanson Jan 2026

What Beginning Law Students Learn When Ai Gets Personal, Kristina Swanson

Journal Articles

From the Introduction

While legal writing and research professors wrestle with artificial intelligence (AI)'s impact on the skills we teach, one thing is clear: beginning law students cannot discern whether AI answers to legal questions are correct. AI-generated responses to legal questions sound right and are designed to bolster the beleaguered law student's confidence. Deliberately programmed to hook customers, AI-generated answers often begin by praising the brilliant question and expressing electronic empathy for the difficulty the student may have had answering it. The end result: students with the wrong legal answer and misplaced confidence.

Shin-Chi’S Canoe (2008) By Nicola Campbell, Maughn Rollins Gregory Jan 2026

Shin-Chi’S Canoe (2008) By Nicola Campbell, Maughn Rollins Gregory

Picture Books

In the nineteenth and twentieth centuries American and Canadian government agencies and Christian churches established Indian residential schools where hundreds of thousands of children were “reeducated” in English and Christianity. They were not allowed to use their native languages or given names, to practice their religions, or to communicate with their siblings or parents. They were made to work in crop fields, kitchens, laundries, and industrial workshops. Many were physically and sexually abused. Many never saw their families again. The nine picture books reviewed here are accounts of survivors of residential schools from eight different Indigenous nations. In addition to …

Impact Of Family And Social Determinants Of Health On Behavioral And Bmi Outcomes In Adolescents With And Without Intellectual And Developmental Disabilities: An Ecological System Perspective, Pingnan Li Jan 2026

Impact Of Family And Social Determinants Of Health On Behavioral And Bmi Outcomes In Adolescents With And Without Intellectual And Developmental Disabilities: An Ecological System Perspective, Pingnan Li

Social Work Theses

Adolescence is a critical developmental period during which behavioral and physical health outcomes are shaped by social and family determinants of health; yet limited research has examined how these determinants operate among adolescents with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) within a multilevel ecological framework. To address this gap, this thesis used data from Years 9 and 15 of the Future of Families and Child Wellbeing Study (FFCWS), with a final analytic sample of 3,176 adolescents at Year 15, including 150 with IDD. Descriptive analyses first examined the differences in demographic characteristics, behavioral outcomes (externalizing and internalizing behaviors), and physical outcomes …

The Need For A Validated Psychometric Scale To Assess Multidimensional Language Barriers In Medical Education Among Arabic Speakers, Ali Alfaifi, Nasser Shubayr Jan 2026

The Need For A Validated Psychometric Scale To Assess Multidimensional Language Barriers In Medical Education Among Arabic Speakers, Ali Alfaifi, Nasser Shubayr

Health Professions Education

Language barriers significantly hinder academic performance, psychological well-being, and clinical communication skills of Arabic-speaking healthcare students educated through English-medium instruction. Although existing instruments focus on clinical communication—often among physicians—critical dimensions such as academic challenges and psychological impacts remain underassessed, and tools rarely address disciplines beyond medicine (e.g., nursing, pharmacy, radiology). Studies in Arabic-speaking contexts typically employ author-developed or adapted questionnaires lacking rigorous validation. This short communication underscores the need for a comprehensive, psychometrically sound scale tailored to Arabic-speaking healthcare students. Proposed dimensions include Language Proficiency, Academic Impact, Psychological Impact, and Clinical Communication. Validation will involve systematic item development, exploratory and …

Mapping Historical Neighborhoods With Geospatial Viewshed Buffers, James B. Townsend Jan 2026

Mapping Historical Neighborhoods With Geospatial Viewshed Buffers, James B. Townsend

Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports

The concept of neighborhood has been long studied with little agreement beyond the notion that neighborhoods are somewhat self-contained areas within a wider urban environment. Despite the lack of a finite definition, there is wide agreement of the importance of studying population dynamics at the neighborhood scale. Many attempts have been made to spatially define, measure, and quantify contemporary neighborhoods, but less attention has been given to methods to spatially define historical neighborhoods. In this paper, we utilize a historical spatial data infrastructure for the city of London, Ontario to develop a viewshed methodology that recognizes that ‘neighborhood’ is unique …

Department of Radiology Faculty Papers

BACKGROUND: Stroke leads to complex chronic structural and functional brain changes that specifically affect motor outcomes. The brain predicted age difference (PAD) has emerged as a sensitive biomarker of both sensorimotor and cognitive function after stroke. Our previous study showed a higher global brain PAD associated with poorer motor function after stroke. However, the association between local stroke lesion load, regional brain age, and motor impairment is unclear. This study aimed to investigate the associations between focal lesion damage, regional brain PAD in both hemispheres, and motor outcomes in chronic stroke, and to identify key predictors of motor impairment.

How Does Consumer Animosity Affect Consumer Behavior? The Case Of Filipino College Students As Consumers Amid The West Philippine Sea Conflict, Reynaldo Bautista Jr., Luz Suplico Jeong, Myla Arcinas Jan 2026

How Does Consumer Animosity Affect Consumer Behavior? The Case Of Filipino College Students As Consumers Amid The West Philippine Sea Conflict, Reynaldo Bautista Jr., Luz Suplico Jeong, Myla Arcinas

DLSU Business & Economics Review

There are consumers who participate in political consumerism by avoiding, rejecting, or condemning products and services from countries perceived as aggressors through their military or economic action. This study examines how Filipino college students in Metro Manila, Philippines, who are frequently exposed to social media, will be affected as consumers amid the current tension in the West Philippine Sea. Using the theories of social identity, uses and gratifications, and echo chamber as frameworks, 770 college students from private and public universities in Metro Manila were surveyed. The results show that consumer animosity strongly predicts both purchase intention (β = 0.591, …
