Research outputs 2022 to 2026

Background/objectives: This study aimed to predict body mass index (BMI) trajectories from childhood to early adulthood using explainable artificial intelligence, integrating adult BMI polygenic scores (PGS), maternal, early-life, and familial factors to identify key predictors of obesity risk and inform prevention strategies. Subjects/methods: We analyzed longitudinal data from the Raine Study Gen2 cohort, recruiting 2868 participants. This observational study, without randomization or case-control design, collected BMI measurements at ages 8, 10, 14, 17, 20, 23, and 27 years. We applied Kolmogorov–Arnold Networks (KAN) alongside conventional machine learning models, integrating epidemiological variables (maternal and paternal anthropometrics, parental education, early-life skinfold measurements) …

Assessing Decision Making Of United States Arboreta: A Survey Of The Main Drivers Behind New Planting Selections, Sophia Reavley Jan 2026

Assessing Decision Making Of United States Arboreta: A Survey Of The Main Drivers Behind New Planting Selections, Sophia Reavley

Theses and Dissertations

When an arboretum needs to replace fallen specimens, what are they looking for in the new plant that will be added to the collection? Arboreta are locations where trees and shrubs can be studied in an area where the public can also enjoy them. This study looks to see what aspects of scientific value (conservation status, diversification, ornamental value, etc.) and what external factors (budgets, public opinion, research articles, etc.) of new species selections become the main driver in decision making. An anonymous online survey was used to collect data from arboreta and botanical gardens of the United States that …

Predictors Of Successful Conservative Lung Surgery In Endobronchial Tumors, Ahmed Mohamed Abdelfattah Ahmed Omar, Amr Abdellateef Hassan, Sameh Ibrahim Elsayed

Mansoura Medical Journal

Background: Endobronchial tumors, though rare, often present centrally and may cause airway obstruction. Historically managed by pneumonectomy, conservative lung surgery has emerged as a viable alternative with reduced morbidity. Methods: This retrospective study included 69 adult patients with endobronchial tumors treated surgically at Mansoura University between 2005 and 2024. Patients were divided into two groups: Group 1 underwent pneumonectomy; Group 2 non-pneumonectomy. Clinical, radiological and bronchoscopic data were analyzed to identify predictors of successful conservative surgery. Results: Tumor location, proximity to the carina, preserved distal lung tissue, and higher preoperative FEV1% were significantly associated with conservative surgical success. Therapeutic bronchoscopy …

Alpha-inhibin has been traditionally used as immunohistochemical marker (IHC) for SCST, but restrictions as lack of specificity and variability of cytoplasmic staining evolved.  Forkhead box L2 (FOXL2) is one of the earliest markers of ovarian differentiation and is essential for the normal development of granulosa cells and has been identified to be a sensitive and specific marker of Sex Cord-Stromal differentiation.

Aim: Assess FOXL2-IHC expression in different types of SCSTs and correlate its expression with histopathological features and Inhibin-IHC.

Methods: …

The Role Of Vitamin D In Management Of Pediatric Chronic Immune Thrombocytopenia, Eman Magdy Yahia, Suzy Abd El Mabood Abd El Hameed, Dalia Tawfeek Hussein, Amany Mamdouh Shoumah

Mansoura Medical Journal

In children, immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) remains a serious health concern, which is an autoimmune disorder (AID) characterized by an isolated decrease in platelet count, leading to an increased risk of bleeding.

The use of vitamin D supplementation represents a turning point in many autoimmune diseases, with the potential to deliver high cure rates with fewer side effects than previous therapies. In this review, we explore the incidence of ITP , immunopathogenesis, diagnosis and management in pediatric patients. We will discuss the mechanisms of action of vitamin D , focusing on its role in autoimmune diseases especially ITP
