Implementing An Integrated Primary Care Model In Outpatient Specialty Medicine: Lessons Learned And Future Directions, Kristen Perry, Rachel Allen, Katherine Dollar, Christina B. Shook, Alexandra Alvarez, April Eaker, Molly Goodrich, Jennifer Patterson

The Journal of Integrated Primary Care

The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) has a successful history of integrating behavioral health into primary care through its Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) program, utilizing the Colocated Collaborative Care (CCC) model to improve access, early intervention, and team-based care. Recognizing this model’s utility, coupled with the high prevalence of psychological concerns among patients with chronic medical conditions—such as cancer and pain—and their associated elevated suicide risk, VHA launched the Mental and Behavioral Health Integration (MBHI) into Specialty Medicine Demonstration Projects in 2022. These projects expand CCC services into outpatient Oncology and Pain Management clinics, supported by implementation facilitation strategies …

Innovations In Developing Behavioral Health Care Managers Within Collaborative Care Programs, Jesse K. Allen-Dicker, Virginia Kelly Arlt Mutch, Derek M. Tate

The Journal of Integrated Primary Care

The collaborative care model is an effective method to treat adults with depression and other psychiatric symptom presentations within primary care settings. Research suggests that patients treated by more experienced behavioral health care managers receiving consistent supervision experience greater symptom relief. Supervision is an essential and widely accepted component of the collaborative care model, though minimal guidance has been offered on how to best implement supervision and foster behavioral health care manager development within these programs. The present paper highlights the approach developed by a collaborative care program with an emphasis placed on consistent and frequent consultation and supervision and …

It's Your Repository, Too: Encouraging Campus-Wide Ownership Through A Distributed Workflow, Amanda Makula, Michael Conlee

Copley Library: Faculty Scholarship

One major advantage of Digital Commons is that it's more than just software -- it's also service. Having a dedicated consultant allows institutions with limited IR staffing to enlist their consultant in helping to train other units across campus how to use the system to their maximum benefit. This not only helps to distribute the workload, it also encourages buy-in and a sense of ownership by the campus partners, so that they are invested in the vibrancy and impact of the repository.

At the University of San Diego, as we conducted more and more outreach to engage a variety of …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

This mouse study investigates the efficacy of ellagic acid (EA), a potent antioxidant in fruits and nuts, and inulin, a prebiotic known for gut microbiota benefits, in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). A Western-style diet (WD) was used to induce NASH in C57BL/6J male mice for 16 weeks. Mice then received EA (100 mg/kg/day, oral gavage, 5 days/week) and/or 5% inulin (w/w in diet) for 12 weeks while continuing WD. Inulin increased energy intake and trended toward higher body weight and fasting glucose. EA reduced liver weights and restored the liver-to-body weight ratio. EA and inulin combined significantly reduced steatosis and hepatocyte …

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

MXenes (2D transition metal nitrides, oxycarbides, carbonitrides, and carbides) hold promise in water treatment due to tunable surface chemistry and hydrophilic nature but restacking in aqueous environments and susceptibility to oxidation remain challenging. Here, we deliberately exploit partial oxidation of Ti3C2Tx MXene to in situ grow TiO2 nanoparticles on its surface, creating a porous, phase-engineered MXene-TiO2 composite. The anatase:rutile ratio was adjusted through different hydrothermal process time (12, 18, and 24 h), after 18 h composition yielding the best balance of surface charge and structural stability. This composite was incorporated into the polyamide (PA) layer of a thin-film composite reverse …

Crossed Wires: How Current Federal Laws And Regulations Are Inadequate At Protecting Consumers From Sophisticated Wire Fraud Schemes, Emily Brafman Apr 2026

Crossed Wires: How Current Federal Laws And Regulations Are Inadequate At Protecting Consumers From Sophisticated Wire Fraud Schemes, Emily Brafman

University of Miami Business Law Review

The shift to digital banking has redefined the financial services industry, allowing consumers to conduct everyday transactions, such as wire transfers, at the touch of a button. However, this convenience comes at a steep price: as digital banking becomes the norm, consumers are increasingly exploited by sophisticated cybercriminals, enabled by a legal system that is ill-equipped to handle modern phishing and wire fraud schemes, ultimately draining consumer accounts. Unfortunately, existing protective measures, such as the Electronic Funds Transfer Act (EFTA) and the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), have proven to be outdated and inadequate to address the unique risks posed by …

Stolen Art Tolling Rules: One View Of The (Stolen) Cathedral, Max Sterling Apr 2026

Stolen Art Tolling Rules: One View Of The (Stolen) Cathedral, Max Sterling

Texas A&M Journal of Property Law

Disputes over stolen art frequently result in arduous, decades-long litigation. These disputes are emotionally and morally charged—one recurrent fact-pattern involves the descendants of European Jewish families suing an art collector or museum that now possesses art the Nazis stole during the Holocaust. But courts often decide stolen art cases based on rules about the tolling of statutes of limitations, not the merits of the disputes. Further, these tolling rules are unclear, inconsistent, and generally favor the bona fide purchaser of stolen art over the original owner. In the spirit of Calabresi and Melamed’s seminal work Property Rules, Liability Rules, and …

Sba Lending And Enterprise Creation, Jason Ashby, Arturo Rodriguez Apr 2026

Sba Lending And Enterprise Creation, Jason Ashby, Arturo Rodriguez

Journal of Business & Entrepreneurship

The United States Small Business Administration (SBA) was established as a federal agency to support Americans in launching and growing resilient business ventures. This paper employs time series analysis and simple linear regression to examine the relationship between the SBA’s 504 and 7(a) loan programs and key economic indicators—specifically, business formation and employment figures. Using quarterly data spanning 15 years from 2008 onward, the analysis reveals that while the total funding available through these programs has increased, the number of loans issued has remained relatively stable. During the same period, both business creation and employment levels have shown upward trends.

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

Despite multimodal therapy of surgical resection, radiation, and chemotherapy, glioblastoma patients show a dismal prognosis. Protein Arginine Methyltransferase 5 (PRMT5) is overexpressed in glioblastoma, and its inhibition imparts an anti-tumor effect. Tumor cells invariably develop resistance to Temozolomide (TMZ), the standard chemotherapeutic agent for glioblastoma. However, the mechanistic role of PRMT5 in treatment-resistant glioblastoma is unknown. Patient-derived glioma stem-like cells (GSCs), treated with PRMT5 inhibitor (LLY-283) or transfected with PRMT5-target-specific siRNA, were treated with TMZ and subjected to in vitro functional and mechanistic studies. The intracranial mouse xenograft model was used to test the in vivo antitumor efficacy of combination …

A Proposal To Examine Naturally Occurring Mindfulness And Correctional Officer Stress And Burnout, Anthony M. Nasrallah Apr 2026

A Proposal To Examine Naturally Occurring Mindfulness And Correctional Officer Stress And Burnout, Anthony M. Nasrallah

Undergraduate Theses

Correctional officers (COs) work in institutions characterized by high interpersonal demand, safety risk, and organizational complexity; as a result, they experience elevated rates of occupational stress, burnout, and mental-health disorders relative to the general workforce. At the same time, research in allied helping professions demonstrates that mindfulness and related contemplative practices can reduce stress and improve emotion regulation and well-being. However, little is known about whether COs’ own, pre-existing informal mindfulness practices are associated with lower on-the-job stress or burnout rather than formal training courses. This review integrates findings from qualitative studies, quantitative analyses, and systematic reviews to show what …

Climate-Responsive Envelope Design For Educational Buildings: A Comparative Simulation Study Between The Uk And Egypt, Hesham Safwat, Elsahamy, Elmahalawy, Samy

Mechanical Engineering

Educational buildings increasingly face climate-driven overheating and shifting energy demand, yet transnational campuses often replicate “home-campus” typologies without climate adaptation. This study evaluates climate-responsive envelope and HVAC strategies for a higher-education studio floor in London and office spaces in Cairo using calibrated dynamic simulations supported by in-situ monitoring with 10-minutes interval temperature and CO2 in London, short-term temperature and relative humidity in Cairo. Three scenarios were tested as follow. S01 natural ventilation; S02 mixed-mode/HVAC with existing envelope; and S03 mixed-mode/HVAC with enhanced envelope. Performance was assessed against BB101 and CIBSE TM52 overheating metrics, ISO 7730 PMV/PPD comfort indices, and CO2 …

Nature Nearby: Use Of Green Spaces Mediating The Relationship Between Access To Green Spaces And Health, Sydney P. Goodson Apr 2026

Nature Nearby: Use Of Green Spaces Mediating The Relationship Between Access To Green Spaces And Health, Sydney P. Goodson

FHSS Mentored Research Conference

Access to green spaces has been consistently linked to improved physical and mental health, yet the mechanisms driving this relationship remain underexplored, particularly in the United States. Using data from the 2018 General Social Survey (N = 1,045), this study examines whether time spent in natural environments mediates the relationship between access to green spaces and self‑rated physical and mental health. Linear regression models with robust standard errors reveal that time spent in natural environments mediates the relationship between access to green spaces and both health outcomes. These findings suggest that proximity to green spaces alone is insufficient to produce …

Education To Improving Prediabetes Management And Preventing Progression To Diabetes In The Primary Care Setting, Irene Mah Mebune Apr 2026

Education To Improving Prediabetes Management And Preventing Progression To Diabetes In The Primary Care Setting, Irene Mah Mebune

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

Prediabetes is a significant public health concern in the United States, as many individuals remain undiagnosed or inadequately managed, which increases the risk of progression to type 2 diabetes and associated complications. Primary care settings are essential for early identification and prevention. However, gaps in staff knowledge and inconsistent application of evidence-based guidelines frequently hinder effective management. This Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) staff education project aimed to enhance healthcare staff knowledge and confidence in screening for and managing prediabetes within a primary care clinic. The central question guiding this project was whether evidence-based staff education could improve healthcare staff …
