Research On Wing-Wall-Free Transition Between W-Beam Guardrail And Combined Bridge Guardrail, Jiang Guanglun, Shang Zhongping, Zhang Yinjiang, Wu Junhong, Li Zhen, Qian Jun
Journal of China & Foreign Highway
To address the transition problem between the W-beam guardrail and the combined bridge guardrail during the upgrading and reconstruction of in-service highway guardrails, an SB-level wing-wall-free transition section with simple construction and high efficiency was proposed. Computer simulation technology was adopted to study the stiffness transition, height transition, and cross-section transition of the wing-wall-free transition section. The guardrail stiffness transition was achieved by optimizing the column spacing and column cross-sectional dimensions. By comparing the contact area between the vehicle and the guardrail and the vehicle redirection situation under different height differences, it was preliminarily determined that the vehicle can be …

Short-Term And Long-Term Integrated Design Idea Of Expressway Interchange, Guo Liwei, Shi Jishu, Jia Kui, Zhang Rui
Journal of China & Foreign Highway
It is a general way to construct expressway interchanges by stages. The engineering construction cost, road network operational efficiency, and operational security are directly affected by the rationality of the scheme design. Considering the features of short-term and long-term integrated design of interchange, the necessity of research on design ideas was analyzed. Two short-term and long-term integrated design principles were defined, and their applicable conditions, advantages and disadvantages were analyzed. The main control factors of design principles were thus determined. With the main control factors as the criterion and design principle as the goal, the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) was …

Orbital object detection is a vital aspect of space operations, particularly for identifying satellite components. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are typically used for such operations by running onboard models directly on satellite systems. However, a new neural network architecture, known as Vision Transformers (ViTs), have shown greater effectiveness due to their ability to capture global context. One main issue of deploying systems with such capabilities is resource allocation. One solution is to run models on a Low-SWaP system; however, this results in inefficient performance. To enable efficient ViT operations on Low-SWaP systems, the model must be scaled down through quantization, …

Journal of China & Foreign Highway
Concrete cracking and bond degradation caused by corrosion lead to retraction slip of prestressed steel strands and changes in transfer length. Simulating the retraction effect of corroded prestressed steel strands is a difficulty in current research. A numerical model for corroded prestressed concrete (PC) components based on Cohesive contact was established. The effects of different corrosion locations and corrosion rates on the retraction slip and transfer length of prestressed steel strands were analyzed. The rationality of the model was verified based on existing experimental data. Results indicate that Cohesive contact can effectively simulate the retraction effect of prestressed steel strands …

A Practical Approach To Ir Policy Creation And Revision, Nicole R. Webber
University Libraries Publications
The process of policy development and revision often suffers reduced prioritization, particularly when staffing levels limit dedicated expertise and the time necessary for thorough evaluation. International surveys reveal common tendencies for institutional repository policies to lack desired degrees of comprehensiveness, refinement, or consistency, creating operational uncertainty and inhibiting long-term sustainability. This presentation addresses this pervasive gap, not by offering a case study or example documentation, but by introducing a structured, adaptable framework to guide policy development and maintenance, regardless of institutional size, platform, or maturity.
Drawing on a review of case studies and policy literature, a consolidated, openly licensed set …

Mississippi Coastal Bacterial Community Response To Lowered Salinty, Jackson C. Sues
Mississippi Coastal Bacterial Community Response To Lowered Salinty, Jackson C. Sues
Honors Theses
Microbial communities are essential to the function of coastal ecosystems; however, few studies have examined their response to short-term reductions in salinity. This study used a microcosm approach to examine how decreased salinity over five days affected seawater bacterial community composition, diversity, and richness. Microcosms were assigned to three treatments: unmanipulated seawater (control) collected from the Mississippi coast, seawater amended with natural freshwater, and seawater amended with sterilized freshwater. Length of time bacteria spent in the microcosms was found to have the strongest effect on bacterial community composition, while salinity effects were weaker but still statistically significant. All treatments shifted …
