Single treatments with psychedelics produce rapid, long-lasting antidepressant effects. Psychedelics may also exert anxiolytic effects and be useful in treating more complex psychiatric conditions, such as PTSD. However, less is known about the impact of these agents on PTSD-related symptoms. Thus, we aimed to determine whether a single administration of psilocybin could reverse PTSD-like sequelae induced by stress-enhanced fear learning in rats. Sprague-Dawley rats were placed in Context A (circular, white conditioning box) and exposed to several uncontrollable footshocks (Stress) or no footshocks (No Stress). The next day, the rats were placed in Context B (square conditioning box with clear …

Single treatments with psychedelics have demonstrated rapid, long-lasting antidepressant effects. However, psychedelics often produce unfavorable psychoactive effects that could worsen existing psychological distress. Thus, we compared the effects of psilocybin and the related tryptamine, norbaeocystin, on anxiety-like behavior in male and female rats. In Experiment 1, rats were treated with 1 mg/kg psilocybin (PSIL), 1 mg/kg norbaeocystin (NOR), or vehicle 30 min before a 5-min trial on an elevated plus maze (EPM) or in an open field test (OFT). On the EPM, PSIL led to decreased open arm time and fewer arm entries in males and females. NOR led to …

Most individuals consume caffeine on a daily basis. Research has shown that caffeine stimulates the release of glucocorticoids and catecholamines and can enhance cognition. Caffeine also amplifies stress-induced increases in arousal and aggravates PTSD-like symptoms. Thus, we examined the impact of caffeine on memory for a stressful experience and intrusive memories related to that experience. Undergraduate students ingested caffeine or a placebo. Thirty minutes later, they were exposed to the Trier Social Stress Test (TSST; stress condition) or friendly-TSST (f-TSST; control condition), both of which were designed to enable participant memory for the experiences to be quantified. In each condition, …

Cultivating Home: Nepali Migrants And Gardening As Everyday Rhetoric, Menuka Gurung Lama
Frontera Retórica Symposium
Rhetorical knowledge is often discussed through formal institutions and textual traditions, leaving everyday community practices underexamined. This paper engages the theme “Rhetoric from the Margins” by examining how Nepali migrants’ gardening practices in Hooksett, New Hampshire produce knowledge outside dominant academic and institutional frameworks. I ask: How do Nepali migrants use gardening as a way of making meaning, sustaining memory, and cultivating belonging in unfamiliar environments? In what ways does gardening function as a rhetorical and epistemic practice through which migrants carry and transform land-based knowledge across borders? Rather than treating gardening simply as leisure or subsistence activity, I examine …

Automating The State: Public Sector Ai In India And The Challenge Of Rights-Based Regulation, Medha Garg, Shravani Nag Lanka
Indian Journal of Law and Technology
This article examines the deployment of Artificial Intelligence (“AI”) by Indian Central and State Governments across key public sectors, namely, healthcare, law enforcement, justice, welfare delivery, and urban governance. AI applications in these domains promise enhanced efficiency and service delivery but also introduce risks such as algorithmic and automation biases, inaccuracies, and accountability gaps. The absence of a comprehensive regulatory framework in India exacerbates these issues, leaving citizens vulnerable to opaque decision-making processes. We discuss the current fragmented regulatory landscape in India and compare it with AI governance models in the European Union, United States, and China. Building on this …

Review On Self-Healing Capacity Of Asphalt Mixtures By Microwave Heating, Deng Yue, Dong Yuming, Sun Daquan
Journal of China & Foreign Highway
Asphalt pavement generates cracking damage under the action of vehicle loads and other factors, which triggers various distresses. Microwave heating technology can rapidly increase the temperature of mixtures, enhance the self-healing capacity of asphalt, and thereby repair the damage. The research progress on the self-healing capacity of asphalt mixtures by microwave heating was reviewed in this paper and summarized from four aspects:the self-healing mechanisms under microwave heating, test methods, evaluation indicators, and influencing factors of the self-healing capacity. The results indicate that microwaves promote the flow and healing of asphalt through multiple mechanisms;the loading states of mixtures were simulated by …

Discussion On Several Key Design Issues Of Small- And Medium-Span Single-Tower Concrete Self-Anchored Suspension Bridge, Yang Zi
Journal of China & Foreign Highway
For self-anchored suspension bridges, reasonable auxiliary span setting, cable force optimization, and structural system selection can not only effectively eliminate the negative reaction effect at the anchorage end, but also improve and optimize the mechanical performance of the stiffened girder. However, current theoretical research is mostly focused on large-span bridges crossing rivers, lakes, and seas, with fewer applications and a lack of corresponding attention in the field of small- and medium-span bridges. In particular, theoretical research on single-tower structures is relatively scarce. In this paper, combined with a practical engineering project, the bridge was studied using a simulation analysis method …

Halo: High Autonomous Low-Swap Operations, Sloan Hatter, Blake Gisclair
Mathematics and System Engineering Student Publications
Orbital object detection is a vital aspect of space operations, particularly for identifying satellite components. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) are typically used for such operations by running onboard models directly on satellite systems. However, a new neural network architecture, known as Vision Transformers (ViTs), have shown greater effectiveness due to their ability to capture global context. One main issue of deploying systems with such capabilities is resource allocation. One solution is to run models on a Low-SWaP system; however, this results in inefficient performance. To enable efficient ViT operations on Low-SWaP systems, the model must be scaled down through quantization, …
