Succession Planning Strategies To Ensure Leadership Continuity In Nonprofit Organizations, Simon Mukhama
Succession Planning Strategies To Ensure Leadership Continuity In Nonprofit Organizations, Simon Mukhama
Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies
Leaders who lack succession planning strategies have the potential for adverse business outcomes. CEOs, senior leaders, and key decision makers in nonprofit organizations are concerned with business continuity because critical leadership strategies are essential for the strategic replacement of key personnel. Grounded in the resource-based view theory, the purpose of this qualitative multiple case study was to explore succession planning strategies used in nonprofit organizations to ensure business continuity whenever leaders change. The participants were five leaders from five nonprofit organizations who used succession planning strategies for business continuity whenever leaders changed. Data were collected using semistructured interviews and a …

Knee Flexion Angle Of Fixation During Anterolateral Ligament Reconstruction Or Lateral Extra-Articular Tenodesis: A Systematic Review And Meta-Analysis Of Lateral Extra-Articular Reinforcement Techniques Performed In Conjunction With Acl Reconstruction, David A Kolin, Jeffrey J Nepple, Et Al.
2020-Current year OA Pubs
BACKGROUND: Anterolateral ligament reconstruction (ALLR) or lateral extra-articular tenodesis (LET) is being used more frequently in conjunction with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). However, the knee flexion angle at which fixation of ALLR or LET is performed during the procedure is quite variable based on existing technique descriptions.
PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: The purpose of this study was to identify whether flexion angle at the time of ALLR/LET fixation affected postoperative outcomes in a clinical population. It was hypothesized that ALLR/LET fixation at low versus high flexion angles would lead to no statistically significant differences in patient-reported outcome measures and graft failure rates. …

When Donald Trump descended the escalator of Trump Tower to announce his 2016 presidential bid, Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World” blared from the loudspeakers. Almost immediately, Young’s management made clear that the campaign’s use of the song was unauthorized. Neil Young was not alone. Trump drew similar objections from dozens of artists during his first two presidential bids. But as a matter of copyright law, it is unclear whether artists can prevent their songs from being played at campaign rallies.

For the 40 years after the end of commercial whaling in 1976, humpback whale populations in the North Pacific Ocean exhibited a prolonged period of recovery. Using mark–recapture methods on the largest individual photo-identification dataset ever assembled for a cetacean, we estimated annual ocean-basin-wide abundance for the species from 2002 through 2021. Trends in annual estimates describe strong post-whaling era population recovery from 16 875 (± 5955) in 2002 to a peak abundance estimate of 33 488 (± 4455) in 2012. An apparent 20% decline from 2012 to 2021, 33 488 (± 4455) to 26 662 (± 4192), suggests the …

The location of production and processing has had an increasingly prominent role in discussions regarding food systems today. Acknowledging the increasing importance, we study consumer preferences for and perception of local products with a particular focus on how willingness to pay (WTP) for local origin indication differs across products, types of designations, and rurality of the individual's geographic location. Using data collected through an online survey, we focused on Indiana residents’ preferences for sweet corn and Barbecue (BBQ) sauce with the sample representing both rural and urban consumers across all twelve economic growth regions in the state. Results reveal significant …
Scurvy: A Rare Disease Or A Rare Diagnosis?, David F. Gaieski
Scurvy: A Rare Disease Or A Rare Diagnosis?, David F. Gaieski
Department of Emergency Medicine Faculty Papers
Introduction:
Scurvy, the disease state caused by ascorbic acid deficiency, was once an extremely common disease but is now thought to be a rare disease in postmodern societies. Physicians are not trained to consider scurvy as a possible diagnosis in patients at risk; rather, it is considered a rare diagnosis to add to a differential for completeness’s sake.
Methods:
We sought to describe the scorbutic patients seen by one physician during a busy academic emergency medicine career. Case series of patients seen by one physician between 1993 and 2023 at five academic teaching hospitals with Emergency Departments (EDs) in the …

Music performance anxiety (MPA) impacts musicians of all skill levels, as demonstrated by existing research on both student and professional musicians. Although most musicians experience MPA, it is not formally addressed in music curriculum. This study seeks to evaluate the views and discourse around MPA in the collegiate music community through a survey of 66 college music students, 17 faculty members, and a series of secondary interviews. Through the results of the surveys and interviews, the thoughts on MPA from both the faculty and student perspective will be discussed. Upon reviewing the results of study, possible avenues for addressing MPA …

Biofilm-associated bacterial infections are the major reason for treatment failure in many diseases including burn trauma infections. Uncontrolled inflammation induced by bacteria leads to materiality, tissue damage, and chronic diseases. Specialized proresolving mediators (SPMs), including maresin-like lipid mediators (MarLs), are enzymatically biosynthesized from omega-3 essential long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, especially docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), by macrophages and other leukocytes. SPMs exhibit strong inflammation-resolving activities, especially inflammation provoked by bacterial infection. In this study, we explored the potential direct inhibitory activities of three MarLs on Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram-negative (Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli) bacteria in their biofilms that are leading …

Analyzing plastic flow in refractory alloys is relevant to many different commercial and technological applications. In this study, screw dislocation statics and dynamics were studied for various compositions of the body-centered cubic binary alloy tungsten–molybdenum (W–Mo). The core structure did not appear to change for different alloy compositions, consistent with the literature. The pure tungsten and pure molybdenum samples had the lowest plastic flow, while the highest dislocation velocities were observed for equiatomic, W0.5Mo0.5 alloys. In general, dislocation velocities were found to largely align with a well-established dislocation mobility phenomenological model supporting two discrete dislocation mobility regimes, …

Covid-19 Infection Increases The Development Of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome And Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis: A Retrospective Cohort Analysis, Kristen K. Curtis, Meghan M. Dillan, Timmie R. Sharma, Joseph Piktel
Student Scholarship
To the Editor: Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) represent a spectrum of severe mucocutaneous reactions characterized by extensive epidermal detachment, most commonly due to medications.1 Some viruses, such as the human immunodeficiency virus, have been found to be an independent risk factor for the development of SJS and TEN, though the mechanism is not completely understood.2 Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), a novel coronavirus identified in late 2019, is most commonly associated with mild respiratory illness. However, cutaneous manifestations, including SJS and TEN, have been increasingly reported during and after COVID-19 infection.3 Therefore, the objective …

Migratory species trade-off long-distance movement with survival and reproduction, but the spatio-temporal scales at which these decisions occur are relatively unknown. Technological and statistical advances allow fine-scale study of animal decision-making, improving our understanding of possible causes and therefore conservation management. We quantified effects of reproductive preparation during spring migration on subsequent breeding outcomes, breeding outcomes on autumn migration characteristics and autumn migration characteristics on subsequent parental survival in Greenland white-fronted geese (

Language influences cognitive and conceptual processing, but the mechanisms through which such causal effects are realized in the human brain remain unknown. Here, we use a brain-constrained deep neural network model of category formation and symbol learning and analyze the emergent model's internal mechanisms at the neural circuit level. In one set of simulations, the network was presented with similar patterns of neural activity indexing instances of objects and actions belonging to the same categories. Biologically realistic Hebbian learning led to the formation of instance-specific neurons distributed across multiple areas of the network, and, in addition, to cell assembly circuits …

Veterans of the United States military represent a large sample of the population and a distinctive culture. Veterans have a high prevalence rate of a variety of psychological disorders and disabilities. Research on treatments that meet the needs of this culturally unique group is essential. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) may meet this need with its unified treatment approach and its focus on functioning rather than diagnosis. In this study we examine the current state of the literature of ACT for U.S. Veterans. A systematic review of 249 papers found 34 unique relevant studies involving 21 single arm studies, eight …

The Archaic period has not been as widely studied in Mesoamerica as it has been in other parts of the Americas. This problem stems from intractable issues such as low archaeological visibility and high post-depositional disturbance. And, while existing Archaic data from northern Belize indicates that foraging groups practiced diverse adaptations, little theoretical effort has been dedicated toward developing frames of reference for understanding the coupled human-landscape interactions ongoing during this period. Here, we outline a multi-method approach for situating hunter-gatherer-fisher-emergent horticultural land use behaviors, including comparative ethnographic data, extant archaeological information, and geospatial modeling. Moving Through The Violence: Yemeni Migrants And The Reconstruction Of Lifeworlds In Cairo, Jonathan Hearn
Theses and Dissertations
This Master’s thesis is based on an ethnographic study, following the lives of a small number of Yemeni people rebuilding their lives in Cairo. Their displacement is the consequence of many factors not least the outbreak of war in 2014. In response to this, I ask: In the midst of ongoing conflict, how do Yemeni migrants go about reconstructing their lifeworlds in Cairo? That is, to ask how are Yemeni migrants in Cairo responding to the violent disruption of their social realities and what sense are they making of the consequences. The reorganisation of social realities disrupted by conflict means …

Journal of Electrochemistry
Standard electron-transfer rate constant is one of the intrinsic properties for an electrochemical reaction, which is significant in the study of electrode kinetics. It is a key criterion for one to clarify the mechanism and pathway of a specific electrochemical reaction, and to screening and design the electrocatalysts and battery materials. Herein, we will introduce the measuring methods of rate constant for electrode reactions, including polarization curve, rotating disk electrode, ultramicroelectrode, scanning electrochemical microscopy, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, current step, potential step and cyclic voltammetry, etc., to provide a guide to investigate electrode kinetics for graduate students and researchers in the …
