Integration Of Adaptive Kalman Filter And Bayesian Models For Diagnostics And Reliability Assessment Of Vision Sensors, Rustam Tulkunovich Khamdamov, Marjona Jasubek Qizi Xoliqova

Chemical Technology, Control and Management

Vision-based sensors constitute a cornerstone of contemporary automation, robotics, and intelligent transportation systems, where their reliability directly determines operational safety and efficiency. Conventional Kalman filtering achieves optimal state estimation under linear dynamics and stationary noise assumptions, yet its performance deteriorates in the presence of sensor malfunctions or nonstationary environments. This study proposes an innovative framework that couples an adaptive Kalman filter with Bayesian inference to strengthen diagnostic capabilities and reliability evaluation of vision sensors. The Kalman filter provides dynamic state tracking, while Bayesian reasoning enables probabilistic fault identification and reliability quantification. The methodological novelty lies in the real-time adjustment of …

Chemical Technology, Control and Management

This article analyzes the problems of intelligent control of the process of low-temperature separation (LTS) of natural gas and modern approaches to solving them. Since the process complexity of gas separation at low temperature as well as multidimensional technological parameters have nonlinear control properties, a principled technological scheme for intellectual control of technological parameters such as gas humidity, temperature, pressure, consumption and diethylenglicol (DEG) consumption of the LTS process has been developed. The analysis and literature review show that intellectual control methods allow for stable operation of the technological process, reduced energy consumption, reduced heat exchange, and reduced gas hydrate …

Towards Fast Detection Of Suspicious Bluetooth Trackers Using Anomaly Detection, Orobosa Ekhator, Dylan Conklin, Primal Pappachan, Roberto Yus Jun 2026

Towards Fast Detection Of Suspicious Bluetooth Trackers Using Anomaly Detection, Orobosa Ekhator, Dylan Conklin, Primal Pappachan, Roberto Yus

Computer Science Faculty Publications and Presentations

Detecting malicious Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) trackers remains challenging because existing approaches rely on fixed time and distance thresholds that are brittle across environments. These heuristics produce false positives in dense environments and require long observation windows before flagging a device. To address these limitations, we present BL(u)E CRAB, a cross-platform (iOS/Android) mobile system that represents nearby devices using three risk factors derived from BLE scan data. Our detection model adapts Clustering-Based Local Outlier Factor (CBLOF) to BLE tracker detection and adds a gap-thresholding mechanism to separate high-scoring outliers from the benign majority. Across micro-benchmarks and end-to-end case studies, CBLOF …

This study aims to examine the presence of coloniality in the film The Fever (A Febre), directed by Maya Da-Rin, while also addressing linguistic aspects, particularly the interplay between the indigenous Tukano language and Portuguese throughout the narrative. It further explores the relationship between language, identity, and culture. The analysis is grounded in the theoretical frameworks of Carey-Webb (2024), Quijano (2007), Kaká Werá (1998), Othero (2017), Karnal (2024), Bourdieu (1991), and Maher (2010). The results show how the effects of colonization continue to impact Indigenous communities and how forced bilingualism reflects the mechanisms of structural racism. Additionally, the use of …

Memoria Selectiva Y Resistencia Identitaria En La Lluvia Amarilla (1988) De Julio Llamazares, Alain Pérez Martínez Jun 2026

Memoria Selectiva Y Resistencia Identitaria En La Lluvia Amarilla (1988) De Julio Llamazares, Alain Pérez Martínez

When Justice Fails: Female Vengeance And Indigenous Memory In Jayro Bustamante’S Film La Llorona (2019), Isabel Ibáñez De La Calle

Intersecciones Hispánicas: Revista de Cultura, Literatura y Lingüística

Jayro Bustamante’s film La Llorona (2019) reimagines the Latin American myth of the weeping woman to expose the failures of state justice and propose a feminist, decolonial alternative rooted in Indigenous memory and spiritual retribution. The film follows retired general Enrique Monteverde, modeled after Guatemalan dictator Efraín Ríos Montt, as he is tried for genocide against the Maya Ixil people. While the courtroom scenes depict a moment of accountability, they ultimately reveal how legal institutions remain complicit in protecting power. In contrast, the arrival of Alma—an Indigenous domestic worker who embodies La Llorona—introduces a supernatural force that intervenes when the …

A Multimodal Analysis Of Conflicting Discourses On New Mexican Identity, Nicholas L. Chavez, Fátima Holguín Jun 2026

A Multimodal Analysis Of Conflicting Discourses On New Mexican Identity, Nicholas L. Chavez, Fátima Holguín

Intersecciones Hispánicas: Revista de Cultura, Literatura y Lingüística

We analyze two contrasting discourses on New Mexican identity, as represented in political cartoons from Trever (2021) and García (2018). We show how visual and linguistic elements of the cartoons work together to construct identity through metaphor and metonymy. It was found that Trever (2021) relied on cultural symbols such as the Zia Sun symbol as metonyms for various aspects of New Mexico’s identity, while García (2018) subverted established metaphors for American culture such as the melting pot and Uncle Sam to critique governmental influence on Nuevomexicano (‘New Mexican’) identity formation. Using the critical discourse analysis framework of Fairclough (1995), …

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

Background: Despite the widespread adoption of chemoimmunotherapy in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), the mechanisms by which cytotoxic chemotherapy engages antitumor immunity remain poorly defined. Identifying tumor-intrinsic immunogenic programs that predict and enhance responsiveness to immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) is therefore of critical clinical importance.

Methods: Transcriptomic signatures of TREX1 deficiency were generated from CRISPR-engineered TNBC models and applied to multiple independent TNBC cohorts treated with chemoimmunotherapy. Cytosolic single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) accumulation was quantified using a flow cytometry-based assay to functionally screen chemotherapeutic agents. Immune activation and therapeutic efficacy were evaluated using in vitro assays, syngeneic mouse tumor models, flow cytometry, …

Peninsula Medical School

Childhood experiences of economic disadvantage have harmful and long-lasting effects on child health. Early intervention can reduce some harms but it is unclear whether addressing economic disadvantage alongside psychosocial support yields additional benefits. This systematic scoping review aimed to identify evaluated programmes that integrate parenting support (PS) and financial well-being support (FWbS) for parents of children aged 0–19. The objectives were to describe programmes, relevant components, evaluation designs and impact on outcomes, and to consider if any programmes merit replication and testing in a UK context. Outcome or implementation evaluations of integrated PS and FWbS programmes published in English were …

2020-Current year OA Pubs

Monotherapy with hypomethylating agents (HMA) remains the standard of care for patients with higher-risk myelodysplastic neoplasms (HR-MDS). Recently, the randomized phase III VERONA study evaluating azacitidine plus venetoclax (VEN) versus azacitidine plus placebo in newly diagnosed HR-MDS showed no difference in overall survival (OS) between the two arms. However, whether the addition of VEN to HMA improves outcomes among subsets of patients with HR-MDS remains debated. We analyzed 1907 patients with HR-MDS from 31 centers in 9 countries who were treated with HMA monotherapy or HMA/VEN in the frontline setting (HMA monotherapy: n = 1773; HMA/VEN: n = 134). Responses …

Judicial Rhetoric: Writing Persuasive Opinions, Gerald Lebovits Jun 2026

Judicial Rhetoric: Writing Persuasive Opinions, Gerald Lebovits

Arkansas Law Review

In 1947, Judge George Rose Smith denounced, in the Arkansas Law Review, the “dearth of material concerning the mechanics of writing a judicial opinion” as a “striking omission in legal literature.” He was right.

The lack of attention given to the judicial opinion-writing process back then was hard to justify. Judges spend much of their time writing decisions. Decisions are important. They determine rights and responsibilities, as well as resolve controversies. Scholars have written about every aspect of judging and legal issue—except one of the most important ones: how to decide a case and justify the decision. Judicial opinions set …

Promoting A Rhetoric Of Judicial Legitimacy In Pro Se Litigation, Alistair E. Newbern Jun 2026

Promoting A Rhetoric Of Judicial Legitimacy In Pro Se Litigation, Alistair E. Newbern

Arkansas Law Review

In recent months, headline after headline has decried twin threats to the federal judiciary: declining public trust in the courts and escalating threats to judges’ personal safety. The public’s opinion of the Supreme Court reached “close to a three decade low” in 2025, while Americans’ confidence in the federal judiciary as a whole “dropped to a record-low 35% in 2024.”

In his 2024 Year End Report on the Federal Judiciary, Chief Justice John Roberts identified a recent uptick in four areas of “illegitimate activity” that “threaten the independence of judges on which the rule of law depends: (1) violence, (2) …

Intellectual Humility By Design: How Courts Earn Legitimacy And Improve Decisions, Steve Leben Jun 2026

Intellectual Humility By Design: How Courts Earn Legitimacy And Improve Decisions, Steve Leben

Arkansas Law Review

Courts decide disputes as one branch of our government. Their authority depends not only on getting the outcome right but also on public acceptance of their authority. In a time when confidence in institutions is under pressure, courts cannot assume that legitimacy will take care of itself. They must earn it—case by case—through both the substance of what they decide and the way they exercise authority in public view.

A large body of procedural-justice research explains one side of that equation. People are more willing to accept court decisions, even unfavorable ones, when the process communicates voice, neutrality, respect, and …

The Rise Of Options Contracts In Sports, The Post-Murphy Regulatory Conundrum, And Implications On Federalism, Scott Barboza Jun 2026

The Rise Of Options Contracts In Sports, The Post-Murphy Regulatory Conundrum, And Implications On Federalism, Scott Barboza

UNH Sports Law Review

The Supreme Court’s decision in Murphy v. N.C.A.A. dismantled the federal prohibition on state-authorized sports betting and returned its primary regulatory authority over to the states. Following Murphy, states adopted widely varying sports-betting regimes. At the same time, advances in financial technology and the growing popularity of prediction markets created a new form of event-based speculation operating outside the traditional sportsbook model. Platforms such as Kalshi began offering “yes-no” contracts tied to sporting outcomes through federally regulated exchanges overseen by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, framing such products not as wagers, but as financial derivatives governed by the Commodity Exchange …

The Independence Of Supervisory Authorities: A Comparative Analysis Of Morocco's Law 09-08 And The European General Data Protection Regulation, Zakariyae Hamdani, Karim Seffar Jun 2026

The Independence Of Supervisory Authorities: A Comparative Analysis Of Morocco's Law 09-08 And The European General Data Protection Regulation, Zakariyae Hamdani, Karim Seffar

Revue Marocaine de Droit, d'Economie et de Gestion (Moroccan Journal of Law, Economics and Management)

The effectiveness of personal data protection presupposes the establishment of supervisory authorities endowed with substantial independence, guarantors of fundamental rights and capable of preventing the risks inherent in data processing. However, the comparison between the European GDPR and Moroccan Law No. 09-08 reveals a manifest institutional asymmetry. Indeed, European authorities operate within a substantially more comprehensive normative framework, characterised by enshrined autonomy, extended prerogatives and enhanced operational efficiency. Conversely, the Moroccan CNDP remains afflicted by structural deficiencies: institutional dependence, lack of coercive powers and budgetary insufficiency. Consequently, this comparative investigation aims to identify the cardinal principles likely to inform a …

Deepfake: A Practice On The Edge Of Legality, Bouthaïna Aaziz Jun 2026

Deepfake: A Practice On The Edge Of Legality, Bouthaïna Aaziz

Revue Marocaine de Droit, d'Economie et de Gestion (Moroccan Journal of Law, Economics and Management)

Deepfakes – hyperrealistic videos manipulated using deep learning algorithms – raise significant legal challenges touching on human rights and legal governance. A deepfake usurps the identity of its victim to exploit their credibility and reputation. This article examines the applicable legal framework, first identifying pre-existing rules from Moroccan law (civil liability, personal data protection under Law No. 09-08, criminal provisions of the Penal Code and Press Law No. 88-13) that can be applied to deepfakes, and then advocating for the adoption of an adapted legal framework. The author distinguishes between creative deepfakes (requiring informed consent) and manipulative deepfakes (requiring criminal …
