The Way Perceived Justice Affects Environmental Policy Support, Cholnapa Anukul, Kanang Kantamaturapoj
The Way Perceived Justice Affects Environmental Policy Support, Cholnapa Anukul, Kanang Kantamaturapoj
Asia-Pacific Social Science Review
Perceptions of justice have been widely discussed as an important lens through which individuals interpret social experiences and evaluate public policies. This exploratory qualitative study examines how perceived justice, particularly Belief in a Just World (BJW), is associated with attitudes toward support for environmental policy among undergraduate students aged 18 years or older recruited from higher education institutions (HEIs) in Bangkok, Thailand. An online screening survey was used to identify students with relatively high and low levels of Personal Belief in a Just World (PBJW) from four HEIs, followed by in-depth interviews with 21 participants. Reflexive thematic analysis was employed …
Cultural Heritage Management In Thailand: The Perspective From Regulation, Implementation, And Impediment Under Public-Private Partnership And Civil Society Participation, Ratchaphon Amsuk
Asia-Pacific Social Science Review
Following the new public management concept, public-private partnership has been instituted in the realm of public administration, transitioning the emphasis from primarily the public sector as the principal actor to encompass the private sector’s role in delivering public services. To enhance service inclusion, civil society has been incorporated as an additional social element to bolster public administration. This study aims to elucidate cultural heritage management in Thailand, focusing on regulations and action, including impediments through the public-private partnerships concept and the civil society concept. The qualitative approach included in-depth interviews and focus groups for data collection. The research revealed the …

Natural Radioactivity And Radiological Hazards In Sediments From The Lindi Coast, Indian Ocean, Tanzania, Viator Mujuni, Innocent J. Lugendo
Natural Radioactivity And Radiological Hazards In Sediments From The Lindi Coast, Indian Ocean, Tanzania, Viator Mujuni, Innocent J. Lugendo
Tanzania Journal of Science
The Lindi coast of the Indian Ocean, located in southeastern Tanzania, supports rich biodiversity and has recently experienced rapid growth in socio-economic activities such as fishing, mining, and oil and gas exploration. These activities may enhance levels of natural radioactivity in coastal sediments, potentially increasing radiation exposure to local populations. Therefore, monitoring radioactivity levels and estimating associated radiation doses in this region is important. In this study, thirty-six sediment samples were collected from twelve locations along the Lindi coast and analysed for naturally occurring radionuclides using high-purity germanium (HPGe) gamma-ray spectrometry. The activity concentrations of 226Ra, 232Th, and …
Concealed History Of Microplastic Pollution In The Msimbazi Estuary, Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, Dativa J. Shilla
Concealed History Of Microplastic Pollution In The Msimbazi Estuary, Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, Dativa J. Shilla
Tanzania Journal of Science
This study reconstructed the historical deposition of microplastics in sediments of the Msimbazi Estuary, Tanzania, using a radiometrically dated sediment core. Sediment chronology established using ²¹⁰Pb and the Constant Initial Concentration (CIC) model provided an approximately 83-year depositional record. The ²¹⁰Pb age model suggested marked temporal variability in sedimentation rates, with peaks around 1961, 1998, 2013, and 2015, potentially reflecting hydrological extremes and catchment disturbances. Anthropogenic microparticles were detected throughout most of the sediment core, with concentrations ranging from below detection limit (BDL) to 34 items kg⁻¹ dry weight (mean 8.5 ± 3.2 items kg⁻¹), and their abundance generally increased …

Associations Between Self And Peer's Fear Of Fat In Predicting Dietary Restraint, Weight/Shape/Eating Concerns, And Thin-Ideal Internalization: A Dyadic Exploration In Female Friend Pairs, Sm O'Connor, Cg Martin, Leora L Haller, S Marhan
Department of Psychology Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works
Objective Fear of fat may reflect concern regarding rejection one may experience at a higher weight. Peers play a major role in socialization and support during adolescence and young adulthood. While studies have highlighted peers as an important source of influence underlying disordered eating, it is unclear whether one's own fear of fat or peers' fear of fat is associated with concerns about weight, shape, eating, and eating behaviors.Method The present study used data from 94 female friend pairs (mean age = 20.18, SD = 1.77). Actor-partner interdependence models were conducted to explore the extent to which one's own fear …

Development Finance Flows Under Monetary Policy Tightening: The Nigerian Experience 1981-2023, Hilary Temofeh Kanwanye Ph.D
Tanzanian Economic Review
This paper investigates the impact of monetary policy tightening on external development finance flows in Nigeria, focusing on foreign direct investment (FDI), official development assistance (ODA), and remittances over 1981–2023. Using the ARDL bounds testing approach, the study examines short-run and long-run dynamics between monetary policy instruments (monetary policy rate, cash reserve ratio, liquidity ratio, and broad money supply) and development finance inflows, controlling for inflation and GDP growth. Results reveal striking asymmetries. FDI is sensitive to liquidity constraints, with the cash reserve ratio exerting a weak negative effect, while money supply expansion enhances investor confidence. ODA responds positively to …
Exploring Tourism Business Voices In Navigating Pandemic Crisis And Resilience-Building, Godwin Adiel A. Lema
Exploring Tourism Business Voices In Navigating Pandemic Crisis And Resilience-Building, Godwin Adiel A. Lema
Tanzanian Economic Review
COVID-19 challenged mobility, redefining crisis navigation and resilience. A modified Challenge Metamorphosis Model (CMM) is proposed to understand crisis navigating process in tourism business resilience-building. A pragmatic mixed-method design, involving 158 tourism-business respondents, multiple regions, interviews, and observation during June–November 2020, was applied. Impacts, challenges, opportunities, varied business responses and outcomes were mirrored. Immediate reactive closure and booking cancellation responses were distinguished from proactive adaptive business continuity measures with low visitors, postponement, few bookings and negotiable employment flexibility. Health, safety, and culturally embedded coping practices and their reinvention aided crisis navigation. Medium-term crisis navigating strategies were differentiated from long-term resilience-building …
Relative Effectiveness Of Exchange Rate Targeting, Monetary Targeting And Inflation Targeting Frameworks In Sub-Saharan Africa, Joyce Gervas
Relative Effectiveness Of Exchange Rate Targeting, Monetary Targeting And Inflation Targeting Frameworks In Sub-Saharan Africa, Joyce Gervas
Tanzanian Economic Review
In recent years, many central banks around the world have shifted from frameworks such as monetary targeting and exchange rate targeting to inflation targeting to achieve price stability and enhance central bank credibility. The same pattern has been observed in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), where the number of inflation-targeting countries has increased from 1 in 2000 to 5 in 2022, as countries continue to exit other frameworks, especially the monetary targeting regime. However, there is an ongoing debate in SSA regarding which monetary policy framework is most effective in achieving macroeconomic stability and promoting long-term growth. Following that, this study investigated …

The Effects Of Household Shocks On Women’S Self-Reported Health In Tanzania, Yoeni Silas Kaniki, Wilhelm Michael Ngasamiaku, Innocent Muganyizi Pantaleo
Tanzanian Economic Review
Household shocks are among the factors that deteriorate women's self-reported health (SRH). Accordingly, we analyse the effects of household shocks on women’s self-reported health using a sample of 4,958 women aged 18 years and above from waves 4 (2014/2015) and 5 (2020/2021) of the Tanzania National Panel Survey. We employ a correlated random-effects (CRE) ordered probit model to control for unobserved heterogeneity in an ordered outcome. We find that aggregate shocks increase the likelihood of reporting poor health by 0.6 percentage points while simultaneously reducing the probability of reporting better health by 1.9 percentage points. Moreover, women experiencing economic shocks …
Firm Level Labour Productivity Drivers And Export Status In Tanzania, Mgeni E. Msafiri, Vincent Leyaro, Rosemary Taylor
Firm Level Labour Productivity Drivers And Export Status In Tanzania, Mgeni E. Msafiri, Vincent Leyaro, Rosemary Taylor
Tanzanian Economic Review
This study analysed the drivers of firm-level labour productivity by export status and estimated the counterfactual gains from exporting. Using the 2022 nationally representative Tanzania Enterprise Survey and an endogenous switching regression model, results revealed significant differences in the drivers of labour productivity between exporting and non-exporting firms. The productivity of exporting firms was positively associated with business linkages with small and medium-sized enterprises, foreign ownership, access to finance, and capital intensity. Similar factors were associated with labour productivity among non-exporting firms, alongside linkages with large firms. However, access to finance had asymmetric patterns: exporting firms benefited from greater financial …

Out-Of-Pocket Health Spending And Household Impoverishment In Tanzania Using The 2020/21 National Panel Survey, John Geofrey Massito Dr, Hinju John Gabriel Dr
Tanzanian Economic Review
Out-of-pocket health spending (OOPHS) can convert healthcare needs into financial hardship, particularly where risk-pooling mechanisms are limited. Evidence on its direct contribution to household impoverishment in Tanzania remains limited. This study estimates the impoverishing effect of OOPHS and examines the factors associated with household exposure to healthcare payments. We analysed nationally representative data from the 2020/21 Tanzania National Panel Survey. Household welfare was assessed before and after OOPHS using the Foster–Greer–Thorbecke poverty framework. Changes in the poverty headcount, poverty gap and poverty severinty were used to identify poverty entry and poverty deepening. Determinants of OOPHS were estimated using a two-part …

Discourse Representation Of Self And Other In The 2020 Trump-Biden Presidential Debates, Victor Babajide Ogunleye, Adesina B. Sunday
Journal of English and Applied Linguistics
Presidential aspirants in the United States engage in debates during campaigns as a medium of enlightening the electorate. Existing studies on the American presidential debates have largely focused on politeness, rhetoric, syntax, and gender, with little attention to the strategies employed to construct the self and opponent(s). Therefore, this research investigates the discourse representation in the presidential debates between Trump and Biden using van Dijk’s socio-cognitive model of critical discourse analysis. Ten excerpts were purposively selected for their relevance in illustrating representation strategies. The analysis revealed positive self-representation and negative other-representation. Positive self-representation featured the self as competent, honest, altruistic, …

Exploiting Uncertainty Of Computational Methodology In Optimizing User Interface In Human-Computer Interaction, Nada Mohamed, Alshaimaa A. Tantawy
Exploiting Uncertainty Of Computational Methodology In Optimizing User Interface In Human-Computer Interaction, Nada Mohamed, Alshaimaa A. Tantawy
Neutrosophic Systems with Applications
Human-computer interaction (HCI) evaluation and optimization of user interfaces (UIs) constitute a complex multi-criteria decision-making challenge, marked by conflicting evaluation dimensions, subjective expert judgments, and inherent uncertainty in user experience assessment. Traditional evaluation approaches, such as heuristic expert reviews and user satisfaction surveys, rely on sharp, binary classifications that fail to capture the gradual and overlapping nature of human cognitive and affective states. This limitation necessitates a more robust uncertainty-aware methodology that can model the true complexity of HCI evaluation. This paper proposes a hybrid mathematical model that integrates various Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) techniques of Entropy, and Simple Additive …

Recursive Neutrosophic Superhypergraphs With Illustrative Applications, Takaaki Fujita, Ajoy Kanti Das, Suman Das, Sankar Prasad Mondal, Volkan Duran
Neutrosophic Systems with Applications
Finite hypergraphs generalize ordinary graphs by permitting each hyperedge to join any nonempty set of vertices, and thus provide a natural model for truly multiway interactions. To represent hierarchical and multi-layer structure, SuperHyperGraphs iterate the powerset operation so that set-valued entities created at one level can be treated as vertices at higher levels. Independently, recursive hypergraphs allow edge recursion: an edge may contain not only vertices but also lower-level edges, yielding nested (and possibly self-referential) incidence controlled by a specified recursion depth. In this work we introduce and axiomatize Recursive Neutrosophic SuperHyperGraphs, a unified framework that combines vertex …

Women’S Participation In Middle Eastern Politics: Between Cultural Norms And Democratic Aspirations, Siham Abidi, Thomas Sheku Marah
Journal of Middle East and Islamic Studies
Women’s political participation in the Middle East remains shaped by the complex interaction of cultural norms, religious interpretations, and democratic reform processes. While existing scholarship has examined these factors extensively, limited attention has been devoted to explaining why women’s political participation varies across states with broadly similar socio-cultural and religious contexts. This study addresses this gap through a qualitative comparative analysis of Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, and Iran. Guided by Feminist Institutionalism and Political Opportunity Structure theory, the study draws on secondary data from peer-reviewed literature, legal documents, and policy reports. The findings demonstrate that women’s political participation is not determined …
The Efficiency-Profitability Paradox: A Comparative Analysis Of Digital And Conventional Customer Acquisition In Islamic Banking, Andra Prayudha
The Efficiency-Profitability Paradox: A Comparative Analysis Of Digital And Conventional Customer Acquisition In Islamic Banking, Andra Prayudha
Journal of Middle East and Islamic Studies
This study investigates the strategic dilemma faced by banking institutions in allocating resources between digital and conventional customer acquisition channels. Using a unique panel dataset from 38 Islamic bank branches, we analyze the comparative effectiveness of digital (Online Onboarding) and conventional (Payroll and Branch Registration) strategies on branch-level financial performance. Our findings reveal a significant efficiency-profitability paradox: a digital-dominant strategic orientation is associated with superior operational efficiency but does not translate into higher profitability. Furthermore, our analysis uncovers a critical nuance in conventional strategies through the discovery of inconsistent mediation: the institutional Payroll channel, while directly boosting margins, simultaneously erodes …
Religious Trauma And Social Identity Af Santri: A Qualitative Study In A Pesantren Environment, Himmatuz Zakiyah
Religious Trauma And Social Identity Af Santri: A Qualitative Study In A Pesantren Environment, Himmatuz Zakiyah
Journal of Middle East and Islamic Studies
This qualitative study examines religious trauma experiences among Santri in a modern Indonesian pesantren, focusing on how teachers weaponize Qur'anic verses and hadiths as tools of symbolic violence. Data were collected through semi structured interviews with five Santri and alumni from Bumi Shalawat Islamic Boarding School, a pseudonym. Findings reveal that selective quotation, decontextualization, and threat based hermeneutics, which I term scriptural violence, are systematically used to enforce conformity, suppress doubt, and induce shame. This scriptural violence operates through three mechanisms. Theological gaslighting denies Santri's interpretive agency. Eschatological blackmail threatens divine punishment. Prophetic proof texting misuses hadiths to legitimize authoritarian …
