Mid-Field Shock And Impulse Estimation Methods For Blast Loading On Tall Targets, Ethan Allan Steward
Doctoral Dissertations
Blast resistant structural design continues to be a major research area for governments around the world due to explosive threats from both state and non-state actors. Many of the typical targets of explosive attacks, such as government buildings, commercial high rise office buildings, and apartment complexes are mid to high-occupancy buildings that present a tall profile relative to the charge size and are often clad in curtain walls. In blast resistant structural design, the origin of a shock wave is typically assumed to be in the far-field, creating a wave that is nearly planar and parallel to at least one …

Evaluating And Relaxing The Limits On Flexural Reinforcement Ratio Of Masonry Shear Walls, Tousif Mahmood
Doctoral Dissertations
Reinforced masonry shear walls (RMSWs), essential for lateral and out-of-plane load-resisting systems in modern construction are constrained by TMS 402/602 code limits on reinforcement ratios ("ρ" _"max" ) and axial compressive stresses (≤10% of masonry compressive strength, f_m^'), undermining masonry’s inherent compression capacity under high axial loads. This dissertation investigates the seismic performance of reinforced masonry shear walls (RMSWs) subjected to high axial compressive stresses (10–20% of f_m^'), with a focus on walls violating the maximum reinforcement ratio ("ρ" _"max") and axial load limits of TMS 402-22. Through experimental testing of 30 large-scale fully grouted (FG) and partially grouted (PG) …

Systematic Esd Analysis And Modeling For Electronic Device, Zhekun Peng
Doctoral Dissertations
Systematic ESD analysis provides good pre-compliance to ESD robustness evaluation on the electronic device from device level to component/system level to on-chip level. The whole process involves corona discharge on display, system level ESD analysis on PCB for race condition and transient response and 3D IC package impact to on-die ESD.
ESD to the display cover glass can damage touchscreen traces by sparkless corona discharges on the glass surface. A non-linear time dependent transmission-line model is proposed to model corona streamer propagation in terms of the coupling current and propagation speed. Results are highly promising to model the corona discharge …

Design And Synthesis Of Organocatalyts For Efficient Decontamination Of Organophosphate-Based Nerve Agents And Pesticides, Emmanuel Kingsley Darkwah
Design And Synthesis Of Organocatalyts For Efficient Decontamination Of Organophosphate-Based Nerve Agents And Pesticides, Emmanuel Kingsley Darkwah
Doctoral Dissertations
Exposure to organophosphate-based nerve agents and pesticides poses significant health and security threats to civilians, soldiers, and first responders. Despite extensive efforts to develop chemical detoxification agents for use in topical applications on exposed skin surfaces and for intravenous injections, there remains an unmet need for effective, non-hazardous decontaminating agents. The current state-of-the-art decontaminating agent, Dekon-139 (2,3-butanedione oxime, potassium salt), exhibits adverse effects when applied to the skin.
In this study, we designed and synthesized pharmaceutically relevant aminoguanidine-derived aldimines that are relatively non-toxic and substantially more effective at decontaminating nerve agents and pesticides compared to existing agents, and they act …

Advancing Thermodynamic Modeling In Materials Design: From Phase Stability In Metallic Systems To Ferroelectric Property Prediction In Functional Oxide, Kyaw Hla Saing Chak
Doctoral Dissertations
This dissertation advances the CALPHAD (CALculation of PHase Diagrams) approach for thermodynamic modeling which often lacks sufficient description of crystal lattices for critical phases in multicomponent system. Additionally, CALPHAD does not consider the structural features and its connection with functional properties for functional materials. To address these issues, a novel dual-ordered sublattice model for the κ-phase in Fe-Al-C system, (Fe,Al)3(Fe,Al)1(C,Va)1(C,Va)3, is introduced that improves predictions of equilibrium compositions and phase stability by accounting for both substitutional and interstitial ordering. For the Fe-B-C system, new sublattice formulations for FCC [(Fe)1(C,B,Va)1] and BCC [(Fe,B)1(C,B,Va)3], phases enhance boron solubility predictions and reveal insights …

Advancements In Signal Processing And Image Reconstruction For Active Microwave Thermographic Measurements, Logan Martin Wilcox
Doctoral Dissertations
Active microwave thermography, or AMT, is a coupled electromagnetic-thermographic nondestructive testing and evaluation technique. AMT has found success in a variety of inspection needs in the aerospace, space, and infrastructure fields due to its unique type of thermal excitation. During an AMT inspection, a specimen is exposed to microwave energy from a radiating source (i.e., an antenna). This exposure to microwave energy results in dielectric/magnetic heating, which causes an increase in temperature and potential defect indications to manifest on an inspection surface (which is measured via an infrared camera). Due to the use of an antenna, there is a spatially …

Sediment Grain Size Analysis And Characteristics Of Sedimentation Processes In The Bang Berd-Khao Tham Thong Beach, Chumphon Province, Rawadee Meeprasit, Sujaree Bureekul, Suriyan Saramul
Applied Environmental Research
This study investigated the sedimentological characteristics of the Bang Berd-Khao Tham Thong beach system, which is located along the western shore of the central Gulf of Thailand, an area that is minimally disturbed by human activity and is ideal for studying natural coastal processes. Sediment samples were collected from both coastal and marine environments across four sampling periods (July 2022, September 2022, April 2023, and June 2023). The analysis focused on the grain size distribution, sorting, skewness, kurtosis, and sediment composition, revealing a predominance of medium sand in coastal sediments and increased silt and clay contents in marine sediments. The …

Applied Environmental Research
This study aimed to assess the impact of herbicide application on soil micro-organism density and to identify microorganisms resistant to 2,4-D-dimethyl-ammonium (2,4-D) for potential biodegradation. Research was conducted in maize plots in Lopburi Province, where 2,4-D was applied at a rate of 120 g of active ingredient per 160 m2. The soil samples were collected at various intervals: before application; 2 and 4 hours postapplication; and 1, 3, and 7 days after application. The analyses included soil property and microorganism population analyses. The results indicated that 2,4-D applications significantly increased bacteria and fungi in the treated plots compared with those …

Applied Environmental Research
In this work, catalysts of iron and manganese oxides supported on OMS-2 were prepared and applied to remove white spirit (WS) in air. Among the fabricated catalysts, the FeO-MnOx/OMS-2 catalyst with a surface Fe+Mn loading of 15% (Fe:Mn = 6:4) exhibited the highest catalytic performance, achieving a high WS removal efficiency of 97.91% at 200 °C. The catalyst retained the cryptomelane-type tunnel structure of OMS-2 and possessed enhanced redox activity due to the synergistic interaction between surface Fe and Mn species. The physico-chemical properties were characterized via BET, EDS, FTIR, XRD, and SEM. The suitable conditions for WS oxidation were …
