Experimental Study On Physical And Mechanical Properties Of Soft Soil During The Construction Of Wenzhou Shield Tunnels, Zheng Kai, Cao Zhigang, Liu Yaoxing
Journal of China & Foreign Highway
In the subway engineering of soft soil areas, the physical indicators and static-dynamic properties of soft clay are important factors influencing subway design, construction, and project cost. In particular, during subway operation, cyclic dynamic stress induced by running trains acts on the underlying soft soil foundation of the tunnels, thus greatly affecting the operational safety and maintenance of the subway. Based on the Wenzhou Metro M1 Line project, laboratory geotechnical tests and systematic research were carried out on the soft soil through shield tunnels to obtain the basic physical indicators of Wenzhou soft clay, with its consolidation, shear characteristics, and …

Design Of Positioning System For Large Floating Caisson In Deep-Water Bare-Rock Environment, Liu Ning, Yan Zhuhua
Journal of China & Foreign Highway
The Xihoumen Rail-cum-Road Bridge is a hybrid cable-stayed-suspension bridge with a main span of 1 488 m. The foundation of Pier No.4 is an embedded caisson foundation. The caisson has a diameter of 58 m and a height of 37 m and was constructed using the floating transportation method. The total floating-transport mass of the steel structure and appurtenances was approximately 9 870 t. To address the insufficient horizontal positioning stiffness, construction difficulty, and high cost associated with the positioning-vessel and anchor-pier methods in a deep-water, bare-rock environment, this paper adopted a large-tonnage gravity-anchor positioning method to optimize the caisson …

Recognition Sight Distance And Minimum Radius Of Vertical Curves At Expressway Tunnel Entrances, Fu Zhipeng, Zhou Shiyang, Pan Binghong, Liu Zhi, Liu Yutong, Liu Yuying
Journal of China & Foreign Highway
Lane changing is generally prohibited and strict speed limits are imposed in expressway tunnels in China. To ensure that drivers can safely and comfortably complete lane changes and speed adjustments before entering a tunnel, horizontal curves should satisfy the tunnel entrance recognition sight distance requirement, and the radii of vertical curves in the longitudinal profile should also satisfy this requirement. If the vertical curve radius of the section before a tunnel entrance is improperly designed, drivers may be unable to recognize the tunnel entrance in time, resulting in rushed lane changes or delayed speed adjustments before entering the tunnel, which …

Intelligent Inversion Of Advanced Gpr Images For Complex Adverse Geological Tunnels, Tang Wenbin, Liang Ming, Peng Hao
Journal of China & Foreign Highway
To address the limitations of traditional empirical interpretation methods for advanced ground penetrating radar (GPR) detection images of tunnels, including inconsistent standards, low efficiency, and high rates of misinterpretation and missed detection, this study proposed an intelligent inversion method for radar B-scan waveform images of adverse geology based on an improved generative adversarial network (GAN). A multi-condition synthetic dataset was constructed through electromagnetic numerical simulation combined with random generation constraints of medium parameters, incorporating three types of geological anomalies (irregular cavities, fracture zones, and cracks) and their combinations. The GAN generator was optimized by integrating Unet convolutional neural network architecture …

Journal of China & Foreign Highway
To address the safety risk prevention requirements caused by right-of-way conflicts in the mixed traffic environment of motor and non-motorized vehicles at urban intersections, a collision risk prediction method for motor and non-motorized vehicles integrating trajectory clustering and deep learning was proposed in this paper to improve the accuracy of traffic safety assessment at intersections. First, multi-type vehicle trajectory data in drone videos were extracted based on the DataFromSky software to construct a high-precision spatiotemporal dataset containing vehicle coordinates, velocities, and accelerations, and high-risk scenario trajectories were screened through the feature analysis of risk scenarios. Second, the DBSCAN spatiotemporal trajectory …

Rapid Detection And Application Of Rock Mass Joint Features Based On Improved Yolo Model, Li Huixing, Zhang Jing, Zhang Jiannan, Fang Hao, Chen Tao, Wang Changshuai
Journal of China & Foreign Highway
In view of the problems that existing monitoring methods for rock mass joints mainly rely on manual identification, with low detection efficiency and strong subjectivity, a detection and segmentation method for rock mass joints was proposed in this paper. The model improved the YOLOv8 algorithm by introducing the multi-scale feature module (MSBlock) and channel prior convolutional attention (CPCA) mechanism to enhance the image recognition accuracy of the existing YOLOv8 network model. By introducing the MSBlock algorithm, features at different scales and levels were fused, which could both capture the fine local details in the image and recognize the image features …

This paper presents a novel approach for protecting transformers during an (Formula presented.) HEMP insult as well as the associated technology-agnostic voltage, power, energy storage, and bandwidth requirements of various control laws. The mitigation is performed by placing a controlled voltage supply in series with the primary winding of a transformer. The controlled voltage supply is subjected to four control laws: an integral controller (capacitor), a linear quadratic regulator (LQR), a nonlinear energy storage optimal feedforward control law, and a Hamiltonian feedback control law. The research gap addressed is that most (Formula presented.) mitigation discussions emphasize neutral-side blocking, whereas transmission-level …

Plasma-Generated Ozone For Odor Removal, Jordan Marot
Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)
Ozone (O3) is gaining popularity for its use in industrial and environmental applications, including water treatment, air purification, disinfection, and odor remediation. As a powerful oxidizing agent, ozone is highly effective in destroying harmful bacteria and degrading hazardous gas pollutants such as hydrogen sulfide (H2S). Dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) reactors are widely used for commercial ozone production under atmospheric-pressure conditions. However, ozone yield and selectivity are strongly influenced by operating parameters, particularly gas flow rate, which affects residence time, energy transfer, and competing byproduct chemistry.
This study explores the influence of the air flow rate on …

Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
Recycled concrete powder (RCP) exhibits pronounced variability in mineral component contents, which leads to competitive adsorption of superplasticizers in RCP-Portland cement (PC) pastes and consequently to mineral composition-dependent deviations in rheological properties. In this study, limestone powder (LSP), quartz powder (QZP), and hardened paste powder (HPP) were used to simulate the main components of RCP. Effects of RCPs with target components on the rheological properties of blended cement paste were investigated, and a competitive-adsorption coefficient (CC) was proposed to quantify the competitive adsorption of superplasticizer. Results showed that increasing LSP-enriched RCP content reduced the yield stress of cement paste, primarily …

The accelerating integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into military systems[i] raises major concerns across fields such as security studies, international public law, and critical technology studies. As warned in 2023, “[t]he world’s major military powers have begun a race to wire AI into warfare. […] No one is inviting AI to formulate a grand strategy, or join a meeting of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. But the same seductive logic that accelerated the nuclear arms race could over a period of years, propel AI up the chain of command.”[ii] In the military domain, algorithmic systems function as epistemic …

Malgré la pénurie évidente de personnel dans les hôpitaux, …
Hierarchical Context Caching Using Data Segmentation And Predictive Aggregation, Sarita A. Joshi, Leo J. Gustas, Blane C. Clark
Hierarchical Context Caching Using Data Segmentation And Predictive Aggregation, Sarita A. Joshi, Leo J. Gustas, Blane C. Clark
Defensive Publications Series
Standard context caching for large language models can be inefficient in workflows with large, multi-part contexts, such as clinical documentation, where streaming data can invalidate static records and individual records may not meet caching thresholds. A computer-implemented system and method for optimizing context caching are described. The system may utilize a hierarchical structure that segments input context into static, semi-static, and dynamic layers based on update frequency. The system may also proactively aggregate historical records from multiple patients into a single cache prefix to meet service provider token minimums. This approach of hierarchical segmentation and predictive aggregation can reduce cache …
Warpage Control Of Printed Circuit Boards For Large-Scale Package Assembly Using A Localized Stiffener, N/A
Defensive Publications Series
The technology described in this paper relates to an approach for mitigating the issue of thermal warpage mismatch between high-performance processor packages and system boards by mechanically coupling a localized stiffener structure to a printed circuit board near the mounting area of a large-scale package. By selecting materials with tailored coefficients of thermal expansion, the localized stiffener actively influences the board's thermal warpage profile during solder reflow, forcing it to conform to the warpage shape of the package. This approach significantly reduces assembly defects, such as non-wet opens and bridging, particularly across massive ball grid array footprints. The disclosed technology …

User Authorization Of Ai Generated Code Based On Pre-Execution Telemetry, Timo Hoyer
Defensive Publications Series
Generative artificial intelligence (genAI) technology enables users to specify natural language commands and obtain executable code and/or database queries as AI output. While such code can help users accomplish goals quickly, in enterprise computing environments, it can introduce operational issues/vulnerabilities, waste computational resources, lead to platform failures, and/or administrative friction. This disclosure describes a pre-execution orchestration architecture and dynamic user interface for user authorization of code prior to execution. A user can use genAI to generate code. Prior to execution, such code (executable code, database queries, or infrastructural commands) is subjected to analysis to generate pre-execution telemetry that includes factors …

System For Orchestrating Multi-Modal Generative Pipelines For State-Consistent Interactive Environments, Parnika Singhal, Chirag Saini, Nilanjana Thakur
Defensive Publications Series
Generative systems for dynamic interactive environments may face technical challenges related to maintaining logical consistency and narrative coherence, sometimes referred to as state drift. A computer-implemented system, such as a server or cloud computing platform, can utilize an orchestration layer to coordinate multiple specialized generative pipelines, for example, for narrative, visuals, and audio. A technique can involve constraining a generative language model to output a structured data object that separates a persistent world state vector from an ephemeral narrative payload. The persistent state vector can be reinjected into the model on subsequent turns to help maintain long-term coherence, while metadata …

Hybrid meeting platforms give remote attendees structured side-channel mechanisms—virtual hand raises, emoji reactions, poll responses—that are entirely absent for in-room participants, whose non-verbal behaviour remains visible only inside the physical room. This paper describes a bridging system that observes in-room participants through a shared room camera, detects a defined vocabulary of natural non-verbal signals (nodding, head-shaking, raised hands, and postural cues), and translates each qualified signal into a corresponding structured reaction event within the conferencing platform’s existing reaction model. The result is a unified reaction channel in which in-room and remote participants are represented with equivalent expressive bandwidth, without requiring …

Intent-Aware Human Motion Interpretation, Hp Inc
Defensive Publications Series
The central challenge of camera-based gesture input in video meetings is distinguishing deliberate interaction gestures from the natural hand motion that accompanies speech. This paper describes a system that meets that challenge through an intent classification engine evaluating kinematic, temporal, postural, spatial, and speech-aligned features over sliding temporal windows. Qualified gestures pass to a gesture-to-structure transformation pipeline that produces clean, labelled diagram elements—not freeform ink—and renders them as first-class shared content within the conferencing platform, visible to all participants in real time, without requiring specialised hardware.
Interaction Claim Standard, Brian Harber
Interaction Claim Standard, Brian Harber
Defensive Publications Series
Independently implemented systems increasingly produce, exchange, and interpret claims about AI interactions: what participated, which interaction the supporting evidence concerns, and how far an assertion reaches. Where no shared requirements govern these claims, agreement on their meaning across implementations remains incidental rather than normative—each implementation may interpret the same assertion differently. This document defines the Interaction Claim Standard, a standard for expressing and interpreting claims about AI interactions across independently implemented systems. It standardizes four normative objects: claim semantics, interaction-specific evidentiary binding, claim boundaries, and normative interpretation requirements. Together, these establish cross-implementation agreement on the meaning of claims, their evidentiary …
Integrated Clamp Interface For Joining Mjf Additively Manufactured Components To Non‑Mjf Structural Members, Hp Inc
Defensive Publications Series
This disclosure describes an integrated fastening architecture that enables direct attachment of Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) additively manufactured components to structural elements manufactured from other materials. The solution uses a clamp geometry incorporated into the MJF component, a guided fastening mechanism, and controlled mating faces. The design enables rapid assembly, repeatable retention performance, and non-permanent attachment while minimizing additional hardware. Unlike adhesive bonding, interference fits, or external clamps, the approach separates assembly torque requirements from retention-force generation, improving manufacturing robustness and reducing sensitivity to torque variation. Figure 1a, Figure 1b, and Figure 2 illustrate representative fastening concepts and the screw-held …
