Plastic Roads: Evaluating The Role Of Waste Pet In Hot Mix Asphalt – A Review, Anwer Ali, Mustafa Khalid, Ahmed Adulateef, Rasha Mahmoud

Engineering and Technology Journal

Plastic pollution has become a global environmental crisis, with millions of tons of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) waste accumulating in landfills and ecosystems. One promising solution is the integration of waste PET into hot-mix asphalt (HMA), offering the dual benefits of sustainable waste management and enhanced pavement performance. This review critically examines the mechanical, environmental, and economic impacts of PET-modified asphalt. Studies indicate that PET improves rutting resistance, durability, and flexibility, with optimal performance observed at moderate PET dosages (4– 6%). However, excessive PET content (> 6%) can lead to stiffening and premature cracking, while very high PET concentrations (> 20%) …

Self-Sensing Engineered Cementitious Composites With Carbon Nanotubes And Reinforcing Fibers For Damage Detection, Shatha Ahmed, Ali Al-Dahawi, Shatha Hassan

Engineering and Technology Journal

Engineered Cementitious Composites (ECC) represent innovative construction materials that exhibit established mechanical properties and strength features. The exceptional characteristics of this substance render it a compelling option for various kinds of facilities. However, the increased implementation of ECCs necessitates monitoring the structural integrity of the systems that utilize them. This paper focuses on developing this concept by employing the traditional matrix after incorporating it with conductive fillers. These fillers transform the matrix into a functional state to sense the damage caused by various loads. Such loads include indirect tensile loads and compressive strength of mortar samples composed of cementitious matrix …

A Review Of Smart Actuation Technologies In Modern Mechatronic Systems, Ivan Gorial

Engineering and Technology Journal

Smart actuation has transformed mechatronics over the past six years by harnessing materials that turn heat, electricity, magnetism, or light into finely tuned motion. Our survey of developments from 2019 to 2025 reveals clear trade-offs: electro-active polymers can stretch beyond 200% but operate at roughly 30% efficiency, whereas piezoelectric devices achieve over 95% efficiency with displacements under 0.1%. Ionic polymer–metal composites and magnetorheological actuators strike the best balance for precision work, delivering about 50% stroke at 60% efficiency. Real-world examples show that packing tiny shape-memory alloy bundles into soft exosuits grants sub-millimeter accuracy without sacrificing comfort, and that materials capable …

Engineering and Technology Journal

Automatic load frequency control (ALFC) is an important part of auxiliary services in power systems. To sustain system accuracy and ensure the safety of power systems, ALFC system design is a vital issue. Power system networks must quickly address the imbalance between generation and demand, or else the power line frequency will depart from its nominal value. However, performance might be disappointing, and frequency deviation can occur when a substantial disturbance occurs, such as when a rapid, significant load change happens. In particular, an enormous number one- and two-dimensional lookup table is used; in this study, the 1-D Lookup Table …

The Effective Of The Passive And Active Techniques On The Vibration Control System, Firas Jasim, Mohammed Mohammed, Hatam Kadhom Mar 2026

The Effective Of The Passive And Active Techniques On The Vibration Control System, Firas Jasim, Mohammed Mohammed, Hatam Kadhom

Engineering and Technology Journal

The interaction between structures and fluid flow in a direction perpendicular to the body can induce vibrations in the structure, a phenomenon known as vortex-induced vibration (VIV). This phenomenon may lead to structural failure due to resonance, which occurs when the natural frequency of the structure matches the vortex shedding frequency. Therefore, it is essential to employ vibration control devices to address the resulting high-amplitude instabilities. In this study, a subsonic wind tunnel with open-circuit specifications was constructed. This open-type wind tunnel generates airflow at varying velocities through the test section. To control vibrations around the cylindrical pipe, an Open-Loop …
