The Analysis Of The Bidding Behavior Of Alliance Containing Energy Storage In The Energy And Regulation Markets, Peiyue Li, Zhijie Wang, Jiahui Jin
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
With the development of energy storage in the frequency regulation market, it is urgent to solve the impact of the decision‑making behavior of alliance containing energy storage on the clearance result and the problem of the maximization of its own profit. First, the concept of degree of participation is proposed to explore the influence of the difference of declared power and price in the energy and frequency regulation markets, and then a bi‑level optimization model is constructed to maximize the profits of the alliances and to minimize the cost of distribution system operator (DSO). The game equilibrium problem is solved …

Research On Distance Protection Of Long‑Distance Power Cables, Yue Huang, Chunju Fan, Wei Feng
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
Large‑scale offshore wind farms are one key tendency of wind power generation development. Submarine cables, as an important link between offshore wind farms and grids, are with much higher distributed capacitance than overhead lines, and thus will generate a non‑negligible capacitance current. In case of the long‑distance high voltage transmission, this may lead to the refusal‑operation of relays in the distance protection area. The reliability of distance protection operation criterion depends on the accuracy of measurement impedance. Therefore, in this paper, combined with the actual physical structure of cables, the calculation of relevant electrical parameters is studied, and the accuracy …

Research On Combined Error Prediction Method Of Electronic Voltage Transformer Considering Multiple Features, Yue Zhong, Zhenhua Li, Fang Lan
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
The measurement accuracy of electronic voltage transformer (EVT) is closely related to the security and economy of the power grid. In order to accurately predict the error of EVT during the long‑term operation, a combined error prediction method considering multiple features is proposed. This method selects parameters with strong correlation to EVT errors through correlation analysis as feature quantities. It utilizes a fused attention mechanism LSTM model and an SVR model to predict the errors of the transformer separately. The obtained prediction results are then combined to generate the final prediction result. The real‑time operational data of a certain substation …

Development And Application Of Distribution Network Fault Diagnosis System Based On Multi‑Dimensional Information Fusion, Jun Ding, Zhiyu Mao, Wenxu Liu, Peiqiang Li
Journal of Electric Power Science and Technology
Based on the perspective of data fusion, in response to the low level of automation in fault localization in a certain city's power distribution network and underutilization of data from various systems, a multidimensional information fusion‑based power distribution network fault diagnosis system is developed. It is achieved by integrating system data from the distribution network dispatch management system, SCADA system, fusion terminals, and data acquisition systems via an internal private network. The system can be divided into two parts: the front‑end user interface and the back‑end server. The front‑end user interface is developed using the Visual C++6.0 development environment and …

Virtual Blebbistatin: A Robust And Rapid Software Approach To Motion Artifact Removal In Optical Mapping Of Cardiomyocytes, Louis G Woodhams, Jingxuan Guo, David Schuftan, John J Boyle, Kenneth M Pryse, Elliot L Elson, Nathaniel Huebsch, Guy M Genin
2020-Current year OA Pubs
Fluorescent reporters of cardiac electrophysiology provide valuable information on heart cell and tissue function. However, motion artifacts caused by cardiac muscle contraction interfere with accurate measurement of fluorescence signals. Although drugs such as blebbistatin can be applied to stop cardiac tissue from contracting by uncoupling calcium-contraction, their usage prevents the study of excitation-contraction coupling and, as we show, impacts cellular structure. We therefore developed a robust method to remove motion computationally from images of contracting cardiac muscle and to map fluorescent reporters of cardiac electrophysiological activity onto images of undeformed tissue. When validated on cardiomyocytes derived from human induced pluripotent …

Laser-direct-drive fusion target designs with solid deuterium-tritium (DT) fuel, a high-Z gradient-density pusher shell (GDPS), and a Au-coated foam layer have been investigated through both 1D and 2D radiationhydrodynamic simulations. Compared with conventional low-Z ablators and DT-push-on-DT targets, these GDPS targets possess certain advantages of being instability-resistant implosions that can be high adiabat (α ≽ 8) and low hot-spot and pusher-shell convergence (CRhs ≈22 and CRPS ≈17), and have a low implosion velocity (vimp < 3 × 107 cm/s). Using symmetric drive with laser energies of 1.9 to 2.5 MJ, 1D LILAC simulations of these GDPS implosions can result …

Investigating Nurses Lived Experiences Toward Family Presence During Resuscitation To Enhance The Future Of Nursing Curriculum, Laurie Stone
Investigating Nurses Lived Experiences Toward Family Presence During Resuscitation To Enhance The Future Of Nursing Curriculum, Laurie Stone
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Death is inevitable, but dying alone can be an agonizing prospect for patients and their families. Family presence during resuscitation (FPDR) is a controversial but evidence-based concept that helps relieve some of the fear and anxiety for the family. Sadly, loved ones are often not allowed to be with the patient during resuscitation. FPDR importance is typically taught within the healthcare setting but still lacks implementation. By starting education while healthcare students are in a higher learning setting, this concept has a higher probability of success. To fill the gap concerning FPDR, this researcher interviewed nurses who have witnessed FPDR. …

Norm Commandeering And The Tobacco Trust, George F. K. Werner
Norm Commandeering And The Tobacco Trust, George F. K. Werner
Duke Law Journal
In the early 1870s, Durham became a major center of tobacco marketing. Farmers brought their crops to auction warehouses, which then sold them to the town’s manufacturers. This was a process facilitated by a well-developed system of social norms. But the formation of the American Tobacco Company’s “tobacco trust” in the 1890s threatened that arrangement—buyers conspired to pay less per pound of tobacco, and warehousemen lost the ability to police buyers’ conduct. When farmers attempted to organize in response, geographic and social distance caused their efforts to fail. By the time federal courts dissolved the trust in 1911, the damage …

Recent clinical research describes a subset of glioblastoma patients that exhibit REP prior to the start of radiation therapy. Current literature has thus far described this population using clinicopathologic features. To our knowledge, this study is the first to investigate the potential of conventional radiomics, sophisticated multi-resolution fractal texture features, and different molecular features (MGMT, IDH mutations) as a diagnostic and prognostic tool for prediction of REP from non-REP cases using computational and statistical modeling methods. The radiation-planning T1 post-contrast (T1C) MRI sequences of 70 patients are analyzed. An ensemble method with 5-fold cross-validation over 1000 iterations offers an AUC …

Bank Lending Channel Effectiveness –Potential Lessons For Monetary Policy, Filip Świtała, Iwona Kowalska, Karolina Malajkat
Journal of Banking and Financial Economics
The article supplements the research on the effectiveness of monetary policy transmission – especially through the bank lending channel. The current study focuses on assessing the transmission of monetary impulses through commercial and cooperative banks as well as through individual loan portfolios, while distinguishing between the fact that they were granted by commercial and cooperative banks. How a change in the central bank’s interest rates may determine a change in the volume of loans in the economy remains the core question of the research.

Elementary Teachers' Experiences Of Implementing Constructivist Math Strategies: A Qualitative Study, Jenny Rae Wielinski
Elementary Teachers' Experiences Of Implementing Constructivist Math Strategies: A Qualitative Study, Jenny Rae Wielinski
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to describe elementary teachers’ lived experiences of implementing constructivist strategies, specifically the concrete, representational, and abstract approach (CRA) when teaching mathematics in a midwestern school district by asking: What are elementary teachers’ lived experiences implementing constructivist strategies? The theory that guided this study is Bruner’s constructivist learning theory, as the enactive-iconic-symbolic learning he described remarkably parallels the concrete, representational, abstract (CRA) framework for teaching and learning mathematics. This qualitative study consisted of 10 elementary math teachers who instructed kindergarten through fifth grades in Montgomery City Schools in suburban Ohio. Data from interviews, …

Not On The Menu: Customer Sexual Harassment In The Restaurant Industry, Fernanda Wolburg Martinez
Dissertations and Theses
Despite the high prevalence of customer sexual harassment (CSH) paired with a high turnover in the restaurant industry, there have been few suggestions on resources that may attenuate the effect that bystander and direct CSH might have on strain--anxiety and depressive symptoms--and turnover intentions among restaurant workers. Based on the stipulations of the job-demands resources theory and the empowerment framework, the current study frames direct and bystander CSH as job demands that may be linked to employee strain and turnover intentions. Moreover, CSH preventive supervisor behaviors and organizational intolerance towards CSH are introduced as job resources that may weaken the …
The Influence Of Polystyrene Microplastics On Juvenile Steelhead Trout (Oncorhynchus Mykiss), Kaitlyn Marie Baker
The Influence Of Polystyrene Microplastics On Juvenile Steelhead Trout (Oncorhynchus Mykiss), Kaitlyn Marie Baker
Dissertations and Theses
Mass production of plastic within the past decade has led to over 100 billion tons of plastics being added to the world’s oceans through rivers and effluent disposal and decomposition. For marine environments, the sudden and constant growth of microplastics (plastics 1 µm to 5 mm in diameter), is of particular concern to top-predatory fish such as steelhead trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), who passively or actively uptake microplastics while consuming prey. Previous research has demonstrated clear detrimental impacts of microplastic accumulation in bivalves, seabirds, and zebrafish, including decreased diet, reproduction rates, and metabolism, as well as increased rates of …

Genetic Improvement Of Tocotrienol Content Enhances The Oxidative Stability Of Canola Oil, Min Deng, Hao Chen, Wei Zhang, Edgar B. Cahoon, Yongming Zhou, Chunyu Zhang
Center for Plant Science Innovation: Faculty Publications
Background: Tocotrienols and tocopherols, which are synthesized in plastids of plant cells with similar functionalities, comprise vitamin E to serve as a potent lipid-soluble antioxidant in plants. The synthesis of tocopherols involves the condensation of homogentisic acid (HGA) and phytyl diphosphate (PDP) under the catalysis of homogentisate phytyltransferase (HPT). Tocotrienol synthesis is initiated by the condensation of HGA and geranylgeranyl diphosphate (GGDP) mediated by homogentisate geranylgeranyl transferase (HGGT). As one of the most important oil crops, canola seed is regarded as an ideal plant to efficiently improve the production of vitamin E tocochromanols through genetic engineering approaches. However, only …
