Job Stress, Mentoring, Psychological Empowerment, And Job Satisfaction Among Nursing Faculty, Catherine Chung Nov 2023

Job Stress, Mentoring, Psychological Empowerment, And Job Satisfaction Among Nursing Faculty, Catherine Chung

Dissertations

The National League for Nursing (NLN) endorses mentoring throughout the nursing faculty career trajectory as the method to recruit nurses into academia and improve retention of nursing faculty within the academy (NLN, 2006). One way mentoring assists faculty is by easing socialization to the culture of the employing institution and decreasing faculty stress (Lewallen, Crane, Letvak, Jones, & Hu, 2003). Mentoring can also be a facilitating factor of an individual's psychological empowerment. Academia is an environment able to foster psychological empowerment, a state in which faculty may be self-directed, highly productive, confident, and find a meaningful connection to their work …

Using Genetic Comparisons Of Populations From Arizona, Mexico, And Texas To Investigate Fall Armyworm Migration In The American Southwest, Rodney N. Nagoshi, Ashley E. Tessnow, Yves Carrière, Jeff Bradshaw Dr., Kyle Harrington, Gregory A. Sword, Robert L. Meagher

Department of Entomology: Faculty Publications

Fall armyworm (FAW) is a global agricultural pest, causing substantial economic losses in corn and many other crops. Complicating efforts to control this pest is its capacity for long distance flights, which has been described in greatest detail for the central and eastern sections of the United States. FAW infestations are also routinely found in agricultural areas in southern Arizona, which lie beyond the western limits of the mapped migratory pathways. Climate suitability analysis found that the affected Arizona locations cannot support permanent FAW populations, indicating that these FAW most likely arise from annual migrations. A better understanding of this …

Outdoor Workshops: A Means Of Restoration Amidst Covid-19 Online Modes, Santa Stopniece

Journal of Management for Global Sustainability

Amidst the global pandemic of COVID-19, online learning and teaching were oftentimes treated as the new normal. Students and tutors were expected to accept it and perform as effectively as they did in face-to-face situations. However, the online mode sustained over extended periods of time often results in decreased motivation, a lesser ability to concentrate, and general fatigue. This paper explores how outdoor workshops involving local and international students were used for restoration amidst lengthy online COVID-19-related learning periods at Suzhou Polytechnic Institute of Agriculture (China) and their role as a regular practice for sustainability in education. The methods of …

Education And The Epistemological Crisis In The Age Of Chatgpt, Casandra Silva Sibilin Nov 2023

Education And The Epistemological Crisis In The Age Of Chatgpt, Casandra Silva Sibilin

Publications and Research

The emergence of ChatGPT and its ability to imitate student work has precipitated a crisis in education. Responses range from practical efforts to detect or prevent ChatGPT use to existential reflection about learning and assessment. However, the crisis is also epistemological, with educators struggling to determine what students know and fearing that student knowledge is diminishing. The educational philosophies of Socrates, Dewey, and Freire suggest that recognition of ignorance of different kinds (inquisitive, predictive, and practical)on the part of educators is uncomfortable but essential for improving the aims and methods of education. In this way, ChatGPT and the philosophy of …

Solar Radiation Modification Governance In The Context Of Temperature Overshoot, Janos Pasztor Nov 2023

Solar Radiation Modification Governance In The Context Of Temperature Overshoot, Janos Pasztor

New England Journal of Public Policy

As the climate crisis escalates, governments—and recently even those in the wealthier countries in the Global North—are struggling to manage the impacts we are experiencing around the world in frightening abundance, including record-setting temperatures, fires, floods, and glacial and ice melt. Behind closed doors, policymakers are concerned as they contemplate the increasing likelihood, even under the most ambitious emission reduction pathways, that the world will overshoot the goal agreed upon in the Paris Agreement to limit global average temperature rise to 1.5oC beyond pre-industrial levels.

It is in this “overshoot context” that interest is growing in an emerging, potentially supplementary …

The Role Of Carbon Management Technologies In Meeting Net Zero, Ali Al-Saffar Nov 2023

The Role Of Carbon Management Technologies In Meeting Net Zero, Ali Al-Saffar

New England Journal of Public Policy

The pathway toward implementing the changes necessary in the energy sector to keep global temperature rises from breaking through catastrophic barriers is narrow and tenuous and will require a range of zero- and low-carbon technologies to be dispatched at a speed and scale that is virtually unprecedented. Decarbonization through renewables, matched with the more efficient use of energy in the end-use sectors will play a large part. But there is growing realization that there will be residual fossil fuel use long into the future, and that the emissions from the burning of these fossil fuels in power plants and factories …

The Perfect Is The Enemy Of The Good: Carbon Credits And Funding For Decarbonization In Developing Countries, Andrew A. Bernstein Nov 2023

The Perfect Is The Enemy Of The Good: Carbon Credits And Funding For Decarbonization In Developing Countries, Andrew A. Bernstein

New England Journal of Public Policy

Carbon credits issued in the voluntary carbon market are an important source of funding for projects in developing countries designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, such as forest preservation and renewable energy. Beyond their potential to provide billions of dollars of private sector financing for decarbonization, carbon credits can generate economic opportunity, employment, and biodiversity. But they are controversial, mainly (but not only) because it is difficult to confirm and to quantify their emissions benefits. This article argues that policymakers should nonetheless support voluntary carbon market growth, so long as companies use carbon credits to mitigate emissions they cannot avoid …

Molecular Dynamics Simulations Of The Spontaneous Deformation And Auxetics Behavior During Tensile Test Of A Nematic Liquid Crystal Elastomer Model, Haoran Wang, Nanang Mahardika

Browse all Datasets

Nematic liquid crystal elastomers (LCEs) are advanced materials known for their shape-changing capability in response to external stimuli such as heat, light and electromagnetic fields. This makes them excellent candidates for applications like soft robotics and energy harvesting. While studies on their physical behavior have shed light on the complex nonlinear mechanics of LCEs, investigations through all-atom molecular dynamics (MD) simulations remain an underutilized avenue compared to experimental and theoretical analyses. This limited use is primarily due to the lack of well-established frameworks for conducting high-fidelity atomistic simulations of LCEs. To bridge this gap, we introduce an all-atom MD simulation …

Study The Efficiency And Availability Of Glonass In Total Electron Content Mapping Over Egypt, Ahmed Wageeh, Mohamed Doma, Ahmed Sedeek, Alaa Elghazouly

Journal of Engineering Research

Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) are used for positioning and navigation, so the precision of its observations are crucial. The ionosphere has a significant impact on GNSS observations causing the biggest error. The free electrons in the ionosphere affect the navigation signals having electromagnetic properties. The ionosphere error can be eliminated by calculating Total Electron Content (TEC) using dual frequency receivers. On estimating TEC, a systematic error which is device (satellite and receiver) dependent is found called differential code bias (DCB). This article provides an overview of two GNSS systems: the Global Positioning System (GPS) and the GLObal NAvigation Satellite …
