Should The Government Flex Its Muscles And Regulate Steroids In Baseball - Weakness In The Public Health Argument, Connor Williams

The government's response to steroid abuse has been simultaneously hyperbolic and inadequate. The legislative and executive branches have attempted to address the problem of abuse of performance-enhancing drugs by adolescents by focusing their venom primarily on A) steroids, and B) baseball players. I argue that this artificially narrows the larger public health conversation that we should be having as a society if, in fact, we determine that adolescent steroid abuse is a problem worth addressing.

From Russia Without Love: Can The Shchukin Heirs Recover Their Ancestor's Art Collection, Jane Graham

Sergei Shchukin's vast modem art collection was confiscated in 1917 by Lenin during theSoviet Nationalizations. Since then the Shchukin heirs have tried in courts around the world to recover "their" artwork, with the most recent development in London during the recent "From Russia" exhibit amid scandal in early 2008. The article first traces the Shchukin family's legal attempts at reclaiming their property. Then the article examines the recently enacted British legislation, "Part 6 of the Tribunals, Courts, and Enforcement Act of 2007." The article then compares the new British legislation with similar immunity-from-seizure legislation in the United States. The article …

This thesis critically examines the use of Kinetic Impact Projectiles (KIPs) by law enforcement in the United States, highlighting the discrepancy between their intended function as “less-lethal” crowd control tools and the severe injuries and fatalities they frequently cause. Spurred by widespread police violence during the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests, this study explores the physical, legal, and policy impacts of KIP deployment. Drawing on public health data, legal case outcomes, and international human rights reports, the research identifies significant risks associated with KIPs, including high rates of head and ocular injuries, and a troubling lack of training and regulation. …

Although IoT devices improve everyday life in various ways, they are susceptible to security threats, impacting users in all environments. As the number of IoT devices increases, the attack surface expands exponentially. However, securing these devices proves to be a challenge because they are made with limited processing capabilities, which means they lack necessary security features. The emphasis on treatment for alcohol and substance use disorder (AUD/SUD) has shifted from short-term clinical stabilization to long-term recovery. Along with this shift comes a growing appreciation of the positive beliefs and behaviors recovering people use to maintain their well-being. The current study examined the role of spirituality as one such tool to improve well-being, as well as how deeply held beliefs, or primals, can influence the benefits of spiritual practices. Participants (baseline n = 132) were recovering employees of Oxford House Inc., a large international network of recovery residences.
