This paper will examine how, given the United States’ shift toward a cashless economy, the country’s top credit-card companies’ potential decision to implement a new merchant code for firearm-related transactions as a method of gun control will backfire, jeopardizing consumer privacy and leading to unregulated transactions through cryptocurrencies. Since the majority of gun violence stems from firearm transactions not involving credit cards, credit-card companies should abandon the new merchant code that dissuades Americans from exercising their fundamental rights. On August 23, 2019, the Small Business Reorganization Act of 2019 (SBRA) was signed into law, adding a new subchapter to Chapter 11 for small business debtors, i.e. “Subchapter V”. The underlying driver for SBRA was a concern that while most Chapters 11 cases are small business debtors, most small business debtors face difficulty successfully reorganizing under Chapter 11. SBRA is intended to streamline Chapter 11 reorganization for small business debtors by making the process quicker and cheaper. The notion of the Self lies at the heart of subjectivity. This paper aims to analyze and compare two intellectual traditions that have their own subversive philosophies of the Self and subjectivity—these two traditions being Mādhyamaka Buddhism and Lacanian psychoanalysis. Beginning with primers on both Nāgārjuna’s philosophy and Jacques Lacan’s psychoanalytic theory, this paper will discuss the comparative psychologies and philosophies of subjectivity presented by the ideas of non-Self and Lack, respectively. Also briefly compared are the implied metaphysics of both Śūnyatā and Lacanian Lack. An examination of these comparisons’ weaknesses follows along with some closing remarks.

During the seasons 1992/93, 1993/94, 1994/95, the productive pattern of seven cultivars of Lolium perenne: Nui, Ellett, Santa Elvira, Solo, Embassy, Super Nui, Marathon and five Lolium multiflorum: Tetrone, Montblanc, Concord, Aberoscar, Abercomo, was evaluated in a dryland area of Southern Chile. The average season at yield reached by the evaluated cultivars was statistically similar (P< 0.05). However, Ellett, Solo and Marathon, showed a higher persistence and Tetrone and Montblanc presented a plant structure which might allow a greater complementation with Trifolium pratense.

Our work is an attempt to emphasize the importance of grass morphological, biological and chemical properties in the process of development of new forage cultivars. Results of our investigations indicate that there are realistic possibilities of developing grass cultivars with improved nutritive properties. However, breeding works can only be effective if a wide range of different properties can be taken into consideration and if, simultaneously, mutual correlations occurring between them are also considered. American and Australian range economists work in tandem with range ecologists and management specialists to develop and analyze strategies for technology transfer. Historically, this process has developed around a model aimed at communication with a narrow target group (ranchers) with easily-defined and homogeneous goals (continuously improving income). In accord with this traditional model of technology transfer, the focus of range economists’ inquiries was once to assess the cost-effectiveness of grazing improvement technologies (Conner, 1985). Analysis of the disciplinary themes of papers presented at five Congresses from 1937 to 1993 indicated a considerable homeostasis of content. The plant genetic base for grassland improvement received most attention, and this, together with plant physiology, plant ecology and soil science contributed 52 to 57 per cent of the subject matter at all five Congresses. Herbage production, water-use efficiency (i.e. above-ground phytomass production per unit of evapotranspiration), surface runoff, deep percolation, soil loss and soil organic matter content were determined on rangeland in three different ecological conditions, viz. poor, moderate and good, for 20 years. Hydraulic non-floating lysimeters were used to determine evapotranspiration (Et), soil evaporation (E) and deep percolation. Runoff and soil loss were recorded on runoff plots. Above-ground phytomass production, water-use efficiency, deep percolation and soil organic matter content decreased (P<0.01) when plant cover was reduced or range and soil condition declined. The dense plant cover of veld in good condition provides a situation in which surface runoff and soil loss rates are lower (P<0.01) than that from veld in poor condition.

Grazing Sheep On Revegetated Saline Pastures: Effects Of Season And Grazing On Morphology And Nutritive Value Of Saltbush, Atiq Ur Rehman, J B. Mackintosh, B E. Warren, D R. Lindsay

This experiment was designed to determine the thickness of saltbush (Atriplex amnicola) stem grazed by sheep, grazing pressure on saltbush in the presence of understorey and the effect of season on the nutritive value of saltbush. Four 0.9 ha plots of Atriplex amnicola were grazed by a group of 10 Merino wethers each. The results indicated that the maximum diameter of stem selected by sheep under extreme conditions was only 1.5 mm. The number of stems chewed per 0.1m2 quadrat were 0.8, 9.6, 20.1 and 18.0 (P<0.05) after 2, 4, 6 and 8 wk. From January to June the nitrogen content (14 to 30 gkg-1) and DMD (0.65 to 0.72) of saltbush leaves remained high. These results suggest that in the presence of understorey the grazing pressure on saltbush was least and increases when the feed from understorey was exhausted. The nutritional value of saltbush did not deteriorate severely during the summer and autumn period.

The paper presents results of a 7-year experiment concerning four mixtures applied for the renewal of meadows using the method of conventional tillage. The increase of the seed rate guarantees that the final composition of the obtained sward resembles the composition of species used in the sowing mixture and, what is equally important, this composition remains unchanged for a long period of utilization of meadows subjected to this method of renovation. Natural pastures in large areas of Uruguay can be improved by fertilization with phosphorus (P) and surface sowing of adapted legumes, promoting an increased forage production and quality, with the consequent higher carrying capacity and better animal performance. A study was conducted to evaluate two improved grasslands with two stocking rates under rotational grazing. The grazing systems are an essential component of these volcanic highlands (1000-2000m). Our investigations consist of building up diagnosis tools and decision rules for a sustainable control of these fragile grazed ecosystems composed of native and sown pastures. The use of a systemic approach allows us to analyse the interrelationship between the vegetation dynamic and the agricultural practices through three biological indicators which relate to one hundred paddocks in six cattle farms. Leaching of essential elements from pasture constitutes a significant loss of valuable nutrients, and the release of nitrates and toxic elements such as cadmium to ground water poses a risk to wildlife and consumers. Results are presented from two experiements on the effects of applying Na and Cd to perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne) swards on the leaching of essential and toxic elements. Socium application increased Na and decreased K concentration in leached waters, and cadmium contamination increased the leaching of Na, K, Mg, Ca and P. Three years of research were carried out in Sardinia (Italy) to evaluate the environmental impact on the soil and water from intensification of the dairy sheep farming systems. An extensive rainfed system based on permanent pasture was compared with an intensive irrigated system based on a three year rotation (double cropping/lucerne). Runoff, soil erosion and nutrient losses were negligible. Nutrient losses by leaching had more important results with clear differences between forage crops. In terms of system losses, the differences were less marked.

Self-regenerating winter annual legumes, like the Subterranean clover and the Medicago species, are recognised as typical Mediterranean resources able to contribute to more sustainable cropping systems such as cover crops, living mulches and green manures. Experimental evidence is presented on the capacity of several cultivars of subclover (Trifolium subterraneum, L.; Trifolium yanninicum, Katzn. & Morley and Trifolium brachycalycinum, Katzn. & Morley) and annual Medicago species to yield astonishing amounts of aboveground biomass (up to 15 t/ha by the cultivars of Medicago scutellata) with high nitrogen content. On four occasions, the mineral composition of white clover (Trifolium repens L.), perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) and paspalum (Paspalum dilatatum Poir.), and their morphological components, were monitored as they regrew after defoliation. The four periods coincided with spring, summer, summer/autumn and autumn. White clover generally had more phosphorus, potassium, calcium and magnesium than did the grasses. Ryegrass, on the other hand, had higher concentrations of sodium than either white clover or paspalum. When compared with requirements for lactating dairy cows, it appeared that phosphorus was the major mineral in the pasture on offer with potential to adversely …

Objectives were to characterize the influence of forage species and maturity on dry matter degradation. Averaged across maturities, alfalfa and red clover were lower in NDF content (39 and 30% NDF, respectively) than reed canarygrass and timothy (59 and 54% NDF, respectively). The NDF of the DM residues in grass remained relatively unchanged over time, while NDF of the DM residue in legume increased rapidly for 9 h before becoming relatively constant. Alfalfa incubated in vitro (42% NDF) compared to reed canarygrass (58% NDF) contained more ND soluble material (39% vs. 25%), and more pepsin soluble material (22 vs. 18%). …

The objective was to determine the effect of protein degradability and supplement level on forage degradation. Steers fistulated were utilizated in brachiaria (Brachiaria brizantha) pasture. A randomized block design was used with a control treatment and supplements according to a factorial scheme combining low, medium and high protein degradability with supplementation levels: low, medium and high analysed as principal treatments and incubation time as splitplot by SAS. Nylon bags were incubated at 4; 8; 12; 24; 48; 72; 96 and 120 hours to determine DM, CP and NDF degradation. There was no effect (P>0.05) of protein degradability …
