Design Rationale For A Retroinverso 4-Fluorophenylalanine Ss-31 Analogue (Ri-4fphe-Ss31), Karsten Seto

This document describes the design rationale, predicted properties, and molecular specification for RI-4FPhe-SS31, a retroinverso analogue of the mitochondria-targeted tetrapeptide SS-31 (elamipretide, D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH2) incorporating a 4-fluorophenylalanine substitution. The two modifications address independent metabolic vulnerabilities of the parent compound: the retroinverso backbone confers resistance to endogenous peptidases, while the 4-fluorine substitution on the C-terminal phenylalanine blocks CYP450-mediated aromatic hydroxylation. The combined effect is predicted to extend the plasma half-life of the molecule while preserving the net +3 charge and the spatial arrangement of cationic and aromatic side chains required for selective interaction with cardiolipin at the inner mitochondrial membrane. Autonomy is a vital element of quality of life in long-term care, especially for older Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender adults, who are at higher risk of requiring long-term care services and supports (LTCSS) in the future. Protein-peptide interactions play an important role in many biological phenomena, spanning adaptive immunity to disease pathology. In the Sliding Window Interaction Grammar (SWING) framework, interactions are represented as sequences of biochemical tokens embedded using Doc2Vec, allowing robust generalisation to unobserved MHC alleles. However, classification remains limited to a single Euclidean feature space that is incapable of resolving binding landscapes. Infant birth weight is the foundation for childhood and adult health outcomes, and health, according to the Urban Institute, is an important predictor of upward social mobility. Prior studies have found that infants with low birth weight are susceptible to a host of physical, cognitive, and social deficiencies that can adversely impact the ability to achieve upward mobility. The role of coping strategies on negative emotions has been extensively researched; however, there is limited literature specifically examining this link within the context of the COVID-19 pandemic in Korea. This study fills this gap by examining the impact of physical activity and parental discussion on depression among 2,265 Korean adolescents in 2021. Multiple analyses, including Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), advocate the relevance of General Strain Theory (GST) in carving out the true effect of adaptive coping mechanisms on strain-induced distress. Black homeschooling has grown significantly among African American families, yet existing scholarship has not fully theorized how race, gender, and institutional power operate within homeschooling communities. My dissertation examines how Black mothers resist and reorganize a racialized educational terrain that extends beyond conventional schooling into homeschooling spaces. Drawing on Diamond’s (2006) racialized educational terrain framework, I introduce the Racialized Homeschooling Terrain (RHT) — an original conceptual framework that demonstrates how homeschooling spaces are racialized in similar and distinct ways. Nineteenth century African American journalists employed the press as a political, legal, and moral instrument to challenge the legitimacy of the institution of American slavery and advocate for universal emancipation. Through an analysis of the Black press, including Freedom’s Journal, Colored American, North Star, Frederick Douglass’ Paper, Provincial Freeman, and the Christian Recorder, the study highlights the agency of Black abolitionists in shaping antislavery public discourse. It contends that these writers advanced a multifaceted antislavery strategy rooted in moral suasion, constitutional argumentation, legal denunciations, and religious advocacy. This quantitative comparative study explored the complex relationship between emotional intelligence (EQ) and Learning Differences (LDs), focusing on academic, social, and emotional development of adolescents diagnosed with specific learning disabilities (SLDs), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and high- functioning autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The study investigated whether differences in EQ exist between students with and without LDs and whether age influences EQ development. The purpose of this study was to determine if a relationship exists between Community Policing (CP) training in Law Enforcement Training Academies (LETAs) and CP implementation in Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) in the United States. This exploratory quantitative study used a correlation design to analyze secondary data from 2018 Census of Law Enforcement Training Academies and the 2020 Law Enforcement Management and Administrative Statistics survey obtained through the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research. This quantitative archival analysis examined whether caregiver mental health is associated with child maltreatment outcomes through CPS involvement, using the National Survey of Child and Adolescent Well-Being II (NSCAW II), Wave 2. Child maltreatment remains a persistent public health concern with long-term effects on children's emotional, psychological, and physical development. Although caregiver mental health is consistently identified as a significant risk factor for maltreatment, few studies have utilized nationally representative child welfare data with standardized measures to test these associations.

This qualitative phenomenological study explored how mothers define, experience, and describe mental toughness within the developmental context of motherhood. Mental toughness has been extensively examined in performance-based domains such as sports, education, business and military settings. Limited research has investigated how this construct appears or manifests in caregiving roles. Understanding mental toughness in motherhood may inform how mothers are supported psychologically and contribute to future frameworks, interventions, and systems designed to strengthen maternal well-being, adaptation, and long-term functioning. This thesis examines the media portrayal of Colin Kaepernick’s protest against police brutality and racial injustice during the National Anthem in the 2016 National Football League (NFL) season. Using content analysis, I analyze why Colin Kaepernick protested in his own words and how conservative media outlets such as Fox News rearticulated and criticized his social justice stance as an unpatriotic denigration of the American flag and Star-Spangled Banner. As I further argue, social movements such as #BlackLivesMatter and the Colin Kaepernick-inspired “Take a Knee” movement represent a political project to inform racial discourse regarding racial injustice in the United States. …
