Physical inactivity constitutes a pressing societal problem. To realize physical activity’s (PA) potential as a key health resource, mechanisms of PA engagement need to be understood. Laboratory and interventional studies documented that exercise relates to affective well-being (AWB) and suggested that AWB may shape PA behaviour. Digitalization enabled the investigation of how PA relates to AWB in everyday life, but findings from individual studies are ambiguous. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to examine the lived experiences of Indian women on H-4-dependent visas as they navigated higher education in the United States. Framed by intersectionality (Collins, 2000; Crenshaw, 1989, 1991) and guided by van Manen’s (1990) hermeneutic phenomenology, this study employed semi-structured interviews to explore the experiences of Indian women on H-4-dependent visas (n=5). Using in-depth interviews and reflexive memo writing as methods of data collection, analysis uncovered four themes which captured how participants navigated higher education, identity, and well-being under conditions of legal dependency: “The Weight of Legal Dependency,” which captured participants’ experiences of …

While pulses are globally recognized for their high levels of dietary fibers, protein, and polyphenols, research often focuses on characterizing the physiological effects of a single variety. This approach overlooks the substantial genetic and compositional diversity that exists across pulse varieties and individual market classes, which can differ extensively in nutrient content and structure. These compositional differences have the potential to produce distinct physiological and microbial responses in humans, yet variety- and market-class-specific effects remain poorly characterized.

Relationships between individuals from different social or cultural groups are often impacted by ingroup favoritism, outgroup bias, and structural inequity determined by a person's social and cultural identities. Recognizing this, scholars and practitioners for the last few decades have attempted to address this by creating interventions, workshops, and other applied programs that aim to reduce this intergroup bias and ameliorate the negative consequences. The current dissertation complements this body of applied scholarship by shifting the focus from reducing and minimizing bias to focusing on processes that lead to a more prosocial and inclusive worldview.

We use authentic learning as a pedagogical framework in a collaboration between our law school and the national Supreme Court of a Southeast Asian country, which facilitates law students’ development of their legal analytical and writing skills, and helps them better bridge the gap between existing legal curricula and the needs of legal practice. Akin to a writing apprenticeship, students write summaries on selected Supreme Court judgments, with their output reviewed by faculty as well as judicial law clerks from the court. Fog computing extends cloud services to the network edge, enabling low-latency processing for time-sensitive applications. However, scheduling complexity significantly increases due to heterogeneous resources, dynamic workloads, and strict Quality-of-Service (QoS) constraints. Although numerous scheduling techniques have been proposed, existing studies often assess only a narrow subset of algorithms or rely on offline metaheuristics unsuitable for real-time environments. This paper presents a comprehensive comparative evaluation of twelve scheduling algorithms, including five classical, one heuristic, and six metaheuristic-inspired approaches, within a realistic 20-node multi-tier fog-cloud topology. Numerous biological processes including angiogenesis, invasion, migration, proliferation, and cell survival are regulated by the NFAT family. NFATs are overexpressed and have increased transcriptional activity in a variety of human solid tumors and hematological cancers. This dissertation develops and tests a comparative heuristic device called optimal autonomy to explain when and how autonomous territories, or simply autonomies, become durable components of the global system of sovereign states. Drawing on a mixed‑methods case study of Denmark and the Faroe Islands, the study operationalizes optimal autonomy as a heuristic device using three interacting metrics: territorial delineation, national distinction, and state dependence. Potassium (K) is a common yield-limiting nutrient in Mid-Southern U.S. corn (Zea mays L.) production, emphasizing the importance of effective diagnostic tools to support fertilizer decision-making. This study integrated two approaches to improve K management in irrigated corn systems: (i) evaluating K fertilization timing to identify in-season opportunities for correcting K deficiency, and (ii) developing a corn stalk-based diagnostic test to assess end-of-season K and nitrate-nitrogen (NO₃-N) status and fertilizer adequacy. As AI coding agents become embedded in software development workflows, developers are beginning to operationalize ethical principles by encoding behavioral rules into repository-level context files for AI agents, such as AGENTS.md files. Rather than examining the ethics of AI agents in the abstract, this vision paper investigates how ethics and values are already being translated for AI agents into actionable instructions that shape agent behavior. Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly trained on massive, heterogeneous text corpora, raising serious concerns about the unauthorised use of proprietary or personal data during model training. In this work, we address the problem of data protection against unwanted model learning in a realistic blackbox setting. We propose Disclaimer Injection, a novel data-level defence that renders text unlearnable to LLMs. Rather than relying on model-side controls or explicit data removal, our approach exploits the models’ own alignment mechanisms: injecting carefully designed alignment-triggers to prevent effective learning. Background Vaccine hesitancy and suboptimal vaccine uptake pose significant threats to public health, but modifiable psychological factors underpinning them are under-investigated. We examined the prevalence of spontaneous emotional mental imagery relating to infectious diseases and perinatal vaccines and its unique associations with vaccine hesitancy and uptake behaviour. Methods In a two-part longitudinal study, a sample of 411 English-speaking pregnant women attending a large public maternity hospital in Western Australia completed a baseline survey assessing levels of vaccine hesitancy and vaccine uptake (status and timing) during pregnancy for influenza, pertussis, and COVID-19.
