This field report examines the development and evaluation of a communications strategy for an academic university library’s multi-year Collection Rightsizing Effort. Recognizing that weeding projects often provoke stakeholder concerns around transparency and consultation, the project team adopted best practices from the Weeding Communications in the Collections Lifecycle Project Communications Matrix framework, developed by a subgroup of the joint Rosemont/ Partnership Communications and Advocacy Working Group, to guide and assess communication practices. The report outlines the creation, evaluation and improvements made to a comprehensive communications strategy. The rise of generative artificial intelligence (AI) has fueled a global race to construct increasingly powerful supercomputers and data centers. Yet, the legal infrastructure meant to regulate these water-intensive projects remains dangerously underdeveloped. Current water law principles in prior appropriation states only further exacerbate this concern. This Note suggests that reform of water law principles can provide a framework for regulating AI data centers’ water consumption in order to protect societal interests during the global AI race. Patents and trade secrets were never intended to meet, but in the world of biologic drugs, they’ve become as thick as thieves. Patent law’s disclosure requirement has demanded far too little of biologics manufacturers—allowing them to keep vital manufacturing details under trade secret lock and key. This intellectual property patchwork has been devastating for drug affordability: Because the most critical manufacturing information remains hidden, makers of follow-on biologics (called biosimilars) are often stuck reinventing the wheel, even after the original patents have expired. This Article argues that copyright’s derivative rights doctrine—long treated as a technical mechanism of market control—has operated as a powerful but underexamined tool of epistemic governance. As the doctrine’s scope has expanded, it has increasingly privileged dominant narratives while recasting resistive ones as acts of infringement. Research indicates that women are less likely than men to have any intention of actually engaging in the sexual activities they communicate about digitally, and men are more likely than women to assume that sexual text messages indicate an intention to engage in sex “in real life.” Sexting often reflects a highly stylized, performance-based, uninhibited and sometimes disinhibited form of discourse that distinguishes it from in-person communications. This qualitative study, grounded in the job demands-resources (JD-R) theory, explores the lived experiences of K-12 principals in suburban communities as they encounter vicarious trauma (VT). The study aims to fill a gap in the research by examining how these leaders deliberately employ strategies to replenish their emotional and somatic resources and develop resilience. The role of school principals has evolved significantly, now requiring them to provide substantial social-emotional support for both students and staff, which exposes them to others' traumatic experiences. Social media influencers (SMIs) have become integral to digital marketing, shaping consumer perceptions and promoting products and services. While some SMIs are dedicated to political content or develop such content occasionally, nonpolitical SMIs may also engage in political chatter within their usual content. This study examines the effects of such chatter on consumer engagement by focusing on gaming SMIs. The main analysis is based on a dataset of 43,892 videos from 200 SMIs. The findings indicate that, overall, political chatter intensity in non-political content negatively impacts user engagement. However, this adverse effect is mitigated when SMIs express negative emotions, i.e., …

First Amendment law tends to focus on the exercise of formal government power. Nevertheless, for over six decades now, it has been black letter law that the informal exercise of government power can violate the First Amendment when it creates what the Court described in Bantam Books v. Sullivan as an “informal system of censorship,” outside the reach of the formal system. Lower courts have been deeply divided, however, about what kinds of government actions create this kind of informal system. The Court’s recent decision in NRA v. Vullo should end this division. The Microsoft–Inflection AI deal shocked Silicon Valley: Nearly all seventy of Inflection’s employees resigned simultaneously to join Microsoft, which then paid the startup’s shell $650 million. After the mass exodus, Inflection appointed new leadership that switched the company’s direction, while Microsoft assumed the mantle of Inflection’s old mission. The competitive effect was thus nearly identical to that of a traditional acquisition. But relying on their novel deal structure to shield them from regulatory requirements, Microsoft and Inflection barreled ahead without filing a notice of the transaction with regulators. Quasi-Judicial Immunity Misapplied, Claire Hodges

Multiple circuit courts have extended quasi-judicial immunity—a form of judicially derived, absolute immunity—to sheriffs, marshals, and bailiffs when they execute judicial orders. In some circuits, that immunity extension covers the use of excessive force by the officer, even if that force is outside the scope of the order they are executing.

This Comment argues that the trend of lower courts extending quasi-judicial immunity to enforcement officers is inconsistent with the Supreme Court’s absolute immunity doctrine. A survey of the opinions in which the Court has granted absolute immunity to a government official reveals four considerations guiding the Court’s decision. The …

This article outlines the complex history of Polish law concerning constitutional guarantees of individual rights, restrictions on those rights during states of emergency and wartime, and the development of the Polish judicial system.

Poland regained its independence in 1918 after 123 years of partition. The first modern constitution of the reborn state was adopted in 1921. The article describes how threats to statehood and the rise of authoritarianism in the 1930s led to the curtailment of civil rights and freedoms almost immediately after the Constitution’s adoption. Somatic phenomena, including shaking, spontaneous movement, vocalization, and purging, are commonly reported during psychedelic-assisted therapy (PAT). However, despite their perceived importance to some users, their role in the therapeutic process has remained largely unexamined. This mixed-methods study provides the first systematic investigation of these experiences during therapeutic psychedelic use, with particular attention to observable bodily responses (OBRs) and release-like somatic experiences (RLSEs), defined as a subset characterized by sensations of physical discharge. An online retrospective survey (N = 286) assessed the prevalence of OBRs and RLSEs, and their relationships with body awareness, bodily dissociation, emotional breakthrough, and perceived therapeutic benefit. …

This paper investigates themes of Irish nationalism in James Joyce’s short story “The Dead.” Drawing primarily in Joyce’s 1907 essay “Ireland, Island of Saints and Sages” as a source for Joyce's political views at the time he wrote “The Dead,” I outline Joyce’s critique of both Irish nationalism and British Imperialism, which Joyce synthesized into a general contempt for Ireland’s compromised national identity. Benedict Anderson’s theory of nations as “imagined communities” provides a theoretical underpinning for Joyce’s transcendence of nationalism. I argue that both nationalist and anti-nationalist readings of “The Dead” are difficult to resolve with Joyce’s documented political views. …

This study constructs a curriculum unit comprising five lessons in feminist art history for middle school learners in 5th-8th grade. Drawing on theories and concepts from feminist art history, visual culture, and inquiry in art education, this curriculum aims to address the scarcity of age-appropriate materials in feminist art history. There is a need for curricular materials that help learners critically analyze issues of gender, identity, and power conveyed through visual culture. The curriculum encourages middle-grade students to engage with three approaches to art analysis: formalism, iconography, and feminism. This thesis deals with the term ‘democratic philosopher’ from Antonio Gramsci’s Prison Notebooks. In order to lay the groundwork for my distinct interpretation of the ‘democratic philosopher,’ I begin by providing an overview of Gramsci’s theory of the role of intellectuals in civil and political society. I then argue that the ‘democratic philosopher’ emerges from Gramsci’s typology of intellectuals but is a category which is both temporally and ontologically distinct from his more well-known concept of ‘organic intellectuals.’ ‘Organic intellectuals,’ intellectuals who co-develop alongside their fundamental social group or class, occupy a variety of cultural and political roles in …

This dissertation operates at the intersections of textual analysis, political theory, psychoanalytic theory, and aesthetics to investigate the prevalence of uncanny imagery in ten examples of contemporary fiction, while also interrogating the notion of the uncanny as a category of analysis. Entitled “Unrepresentable Objects: Neoliberalism in the Contemporary Novel in French,” it examines a group of novels by Marie Darrieussecq, Virginie Despentes, Marie NDiaye, and Linda Lê, published in France between 1993 and 2017.
