Perceptions Of Congregational Engagement In Evangelical Church Worship Programs, Tim Allums May 2025

Perceptions Of Congregational Engagement In Evangelical Church Worship Programs, Tim Allums

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Despite existing research on worship leader training and choosing music for congregational worship, a study on the perceptions of congregational worship engagement from the perspectives of worship leaders and congregants has yet to be examined. Congregational worship is formational and helps believers continue to grow in their faith by singing their praise to God with one voice and declaring the tenets of their shared faith. This study sought to reveal perceptions of worship engagement by surveying nineteen worship leaders and one hundred fifteen congregants from thirty-nine evangelical churches around the United States to identify the musical aspects that either enhance …

Creation's Jubilee: The Reconciliation Of All Things Through The Work Of Christ, Darrell Wayne Murphy May 2025

Creation's Jubilee: The Reconciliation Of All Things Through The Work Of Christ, Darrell Wayne Murphy

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Many have taken it upon themselves to discover the meaning of the biblical teaching of reconciliation and deduced various theories. The topic has reached an impasse for many years. This dissertation will show that God is always the subject, and that man is the object of reconciliation. Through Jesus Christ’s work, God intends to reconcile all things to himself. This assertion claims that Christ’s redemptive work extends to all categories of intelligent beings but does not propose a universal salvation for all. Instead, God has supplied the provision whereby all categories of creatures are offered the work of redemption procured …

Exploring Higher Education Shared Governance Constitutional Documents As Potential Culture Building Contributors To Friction Between Faculty And Administration Through A Qualitative Analysis Of Foundational Institution Documents, Lanna Monday Emmett

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

This qualitative research project investigates the role shared governance documents in higher education institutions play in communicating the guiding principles and expectations used to create, sustain, and challenge culture through a content analysis of foundational institutional documents. Colleges and universities face challenges driven by technology, globalization, the capitalization of education, and shifting expectations regarding diversity, equity, and sustainability. These changes require institutions to adapt their organizational models for more competitive decision-making while navigating evolving governance issues. In some instances, these changes have been cited as one cause for friction between institutional stakeholders, particularly faculty and administration. Previous studies have more …

Ageism From The Perspectives Of Diploma Program Nursing Students After An Aging Simulation: A Phenomenological Reflection, Melissa Suzanne Jones May 2025

Ageism From The Perspectives Of Diploma Program Nursing Students After An Aging Simulation: A Phenomenological Reflection, Melissa Suzanne Jones

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Ageism in the healthcare system creates a challenge for nurses and their patients. Knowledge is needed regarding sensory changes that occur with normal aging. This knowledge gap leads to stereotyping and missed opportunities for age-appropriate care. Nurses must recognize that hearing loss and naturally occurring vision changes can lead to poor outcomes and social isolation in older adults. In addition, caring for older adults becomes less desirable to nurses entering practice because of negative perceptions about older adults. However, nursing programs can address ageism by augmenting the curriculum with a geriatric sensitivity simulation. Through a series of exercises that simulate …

The central research question aimed to discover how property integrity issues could be identified and reduced within the state. The multimethod design utilized qualitative and quantitative data collection methods framed with Cohen and Felson’s (1979) routine activity theory across semi-structured interviews, content analysis of online news articles posted to the International Association for Property and Evidence’s Headline News webpage, and a survey questionnaire. Data observations revealed the problem of property integrity issues was complex. Target suitability for property items being stolen was found to …

How Experts View The Legal System's Use Of Scientific Evidence, Shari Seidman Diamond, Richard Lempert May 2025

How Experts View The Legal System's Use Of Scientific Evidence, Shari Seidman Diamond, Richard Lempert

Articles

Legal scholars and courts frequently write about how scientific evidence is vetted and presented in legal proceedings, but the views of experts themselves have received little attention. Our research aims to fill that gap. This paper reports some of what we learned from a series of surveys we conducted, beginning with a survey in 2016 of scientists who had been elected to membership in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.3 Subsequent surveys were directed to subscribers of the journal Science who identified as scientists and engineers and to self-identified experts who advertised their availability as experts to lawyers or …

Collins, Theresa A. Freeman, Ryan E. Tomlinson

Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Faculty Papers

Debilitating pain is the primary clinical feature of osteoarthritis (OA) that drives the enormous healthcare costs. Osteoarthritis-related pain is often treated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), which effectively relieve pain and inflammation by inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. Antibodies directed against nerve growth factor (NGF) were tested some time ago as an alternative potential analgesic for musculoskeletal pain, including osteoarthritis-related pain. Unfortunately, clinical development of these drugs was put on hold due to adverse outcomes - primarily rapidly progressive osteoarthritis. Both prostaglandin synthesis and NGF have been implicated as critical mediators of strain adaptive bone remodeling, which may play a role …

Exploring The Underutilization Of Ai In Courtroom Decision-Making Processes, Dominique Lashaun Hilliard

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The underutilization of AI in Texas state courtrooms challenges judicial efficiency, fairness, and transparency. Despite AI’s potential to enhance evidence management and decision-making, its adoption remains limited. Legal professionals and information technology (IT) managers stress the need for strategies to address these barriers and promote equitable justice. The purpose of this qualitative multiple-case study, which was grounded in the technology acceptance model, diffusion of innovation theory, and unified theory of acceptance and use of technology, was to explore strategies IT managers use to implement AI in criminal justice information systems. Semi-structured interviews and organizational documents provided data for thematic analysis, …

History Theses, Dissertations, and Student Creative Activity

Brazil in the 1930’s and 1940’s is a case study of the influences that national and transnational ideologies had on its government and society. The result of these influences being the rise and fall of government systems and dictatorships. Brazilian social and political ideology during this time is well documented from works on nationalism, populism, the concept of the caudillo or caudillismo, and issues of transnationalism. Other works in this field refer to integralism and Tenentismo as well as assessments of authoritarianism. However, more work needs to be done on the connections between these concepts and their effects on government, …

A qualitative transcendental phenomenological methodology was chosen to …

An Analysis Of The Adequacy Of Preparation For The Totality Of Worship Leadership, Michael Kenneth Geake May 2025

An Analysis Of The Adequacy Of Preparation For The Totality Of Worship Leadership, Michael Kenneth Geake

Doctoral Dissertations and Projects

Despite the gradual transition of “music minister” into “worship leader,” preparation and training for the expanded roles may be considered slow in terms of total responsibilities. While degree programs have incorporated in-depth coursework in essential ministry topics – such as theology, discipleship, and evangelism – there has been little recognition of their roles as managers and counselors. Many of these programs prepare students for jobs that no longer exist. This study focuses on the worship leader, both as a student and as one who has already started their career, with responsibilities in the church and to their family. Through qualitative …

Masters Theses

The Bible is the believed, canonical, complete message of God. It teaches morals, values, ethics, virtues, righteousness, truths, and salvation. Every part of life can and should be guided by the words of God for the purpose of accomplishing His final goal. God’s goal for his creation is to achieve through salvation and His grace dwelling with Him in His New Earth and New Heavens. To accomplish this, God created people to be immortal. Within this immortality, death plays an integral part. Because God begins His creation with a defining statement of how it all started, God facilitates an understanding …

A Deconstruction Of The American Dream Through An Analysis Of 'The Great Gatsby', Juliet Hila Katherine Sage May 2025

A Deconstruction Of The American Dream Through An Analysis Of 'The Great Gatsby', Juliet Hila Katherine Sage

Masters Theses

This thesis addresses the physiological, social, relational, and spiritual issues associated with materialism through Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. It examines wealth and prosperity, “The American Dream” through Jay Gatsby, and argues that Gatsby and Daisy’s relationship was shaped by Fitzgerald’s personal life experiences. Fitzgerald concludes that financial success and societal achievement cannot replace human connections. Through the character Jay Gatsby, Fitzgerald illustrates that obtaining “The American Dream” does not guarantee success in all areas of one’s life. This paper dives deeper into the psychological, social, and spiritual ramifications of materialistic gain. As a result, the premise of this thesis concludes …

Ricketts V. Holloway May 2025

Ricketts V. Holloway

All Decisions

In this no-grounds holdover proceeding, the court granted the tenant's motion to dismiss because the petition contained an incorrect description of the premises. The tenant provided conclusive evidence, including prior court records and physical apartment labels, that he resides on the third floor, Apartment 3, not the second floor, Apartment 2, as alleged by the landlord. The court rejected the landlord's argument that a 2012 lease with the incorrect address should control, citing established caselaw requiring an accurate description for marshal identification, and noting the landlord provided no personal knowledge to refute the tenant's claims.

One Arden Partners Lp V. Butler May 2025

One Arden Partners Lp V. Butler

All Decisions

In a nonpayment case, the court awarded the tenant a significant rent abatement (63%) due to severe apartment conditions. The landlord established its prima facie case for arrears. However, the tenant successfully demonstrated a breach of the warranty of habitability, proving extensive rat infestation (15-60% abatement), lead paint and leak issues (15% abatement), and a defective apartment door (7% abatement). The court calculated a total abatement of $37,337.68, reducing the landlord's money judgment to $21,575.02.

Ford V. Ford May 2025

Ford V. Ford

All Decisions

The Appellate Term affirmed the Civil Court's order denying the tenant's motion to dismiss or for summary judgment and granting the landlord's cross-motion to amend the petition in a licensee holdover proceeding. Key legal points included that a trust's trustee is the proper party to maintain an action, and amendment to substitute the trustee is appropriate where, as here, the trustee signed relevant documents and no prejudice was shown. The court also found the conspicuous-place service of the predicate notice and petition was proper, supported by three attempts at different times. Additionally, the tenant's documentary evidence did not conclusively refute …

Natale Family Trust V. Heidel May 2025

Natale Family Trust V. Heidel

All Decisions

The Appellate Term reversed a lower court's judgment that dismissed a landlord's holdover petition. The lower court had granted tenant summary judgment, finding the premises a rent-stabilized horizontal multiple dwelling, and denied the landlord's cross-motion to amend the petition to substitute a trustee for the trust as petitioner. The Appellate Term ruled that triable issues of fact existed regarding the horizontal multiple dwelling status, precluding summary judgment. It also held that a trust, while not a proper party, does not affect subject matter jurisdiction, allowing amendment to substitute the trustee. The case was remitted for further proceedings.

Karcı Fractional Artificial Neural Networks (Karcıfann): A New Artificial Neural Networks Model Without Learning Rate And Its Problems, Meral Karakurt, Hülya Saygili, Ali̇ Karci

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

The learning rate parameter used in classical artificial neural networks (ANNs) designed with stochastic gradient descent causes problems such as failure to learn, getting stuck in local minima, memorization, and long training times (divergence problem). To address these issues, this paper proposes a novel ANN method that uses a fractional derivative instead of Newton’s derivative. This method is referred to as Karcı fractional ANN (KarcıFANN). In classical ANNs, the weight update is done by assigning the same constant value to the learning rate in each iteration or for a set number of iterations. In contrast, in KarcıFANNs, the weight update …

A Hierarchy Of Pdz Domain Scaffolding Proteins Clusters The Kv1 K+ Channel Protein Complex At The Axon Initial Segment, Xiaoyun Ding, Allison J Melton, Yudong Gao, Yuki Ogawa, Matthew N Rasband

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

Action potentials are initiated and modulated at the axon initial segment (AIS) by highly clustered ion channels. Voltage-gated Kv1 potassium channels underlie most outward AIS K+ current. AIS Kv1 channels exist in a large protein complex including ADAM22, Caspr2, and LGI1. However, their clustering mechanisms remain unknown. Because Kv1 channels have a highly conserved PDZ-binding motif, we used CRISPR-based genome editing to screen 18 PDZ domain-containing proteins identified in our previous AIS proximity proteome for their AIS localization. Among these, we found that the scaffolding proteins SCRIB and PSD93 are highly enriched at the AIS. Using CRISPR-mediated knockout, cell surface …
